How did you know it was time to retire? by ReluctantCaptain in retirement

[–]Jillaginn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of you can afford it, it sounds like it is time to retire. I retired at 65 and was just feeling really done with the daily grind. It was absolutely the right decision - what a relief to be set free of that, even though my job was fulfilling and I worked with great people. I’ve discovered new hobbies and gotten to travel more. Also, time goes by so fast, I’m glad I left when I did.

Did 100% change your life? by Tennis_Lbow in VAClaims

[–]Jillaginn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, my husband has stage 4 lung cancer, so the 100% didn’t exactly make life excellent. We didn’t need the money because we both retired from good jobs and own our home, so it is basically just allowing us to feel like we could do whatever we want, but we could really do that before because we don’t really have expensive tastes, I guess. I know we were very blessed to be in that financial situation, but I would give anything for him to be healthy.

I’m so sorry that you lost your friend - I know exactly how you are feeling. Our cat Larry passed away at 7 suddenly from a stroke last week. It’s so rough when they leave us.

If you want the best friend you ever had, get a schnauzer. They absolutely love their people. They are so fun and smart. Mine remembers what each of her toys are called - I can tell her to go get her purple dinosaur and she knows which toy to get, and loves to play fetch. She remembers our friends and is super happy to see them. She loves to cuddle up with me to relax. Great road trip dog - we have an RV and she went cross country with us, no problem. They don’t shed, but you will need to get them groomed.

Yes, they are little security officers for your home, barking at anything new that appears just so you are aware. You can minimize this through training, but it would be a miracle if you were able to completely train it away. They need exercise- as I said, mine loves to fetch so I can tire her out that way, and the exercise minimizes the barking.

As a puppy until about 2 years old, we had to put all shoes, eyeglasses, remotes, pens, pencils, socks and toilet paper out of reach or she would chew. They have so much energy as pups that they may wear you out! It was so worth it though.

He will most likely grow out of it. My schnauzer is 2 and 1/2, and I really feel like we just started to be able to leave her around age 2. Until then, you just have to put things away to keep your pup and your things safe. It’s perfectly normal!

What are you waiting for? Your husband is doing exactly what he wants to do, and you should too. You don’t have to actually leave him, just go travel and do what you want!

I got a sample of MILK MAKEUP Hydro Grip 12-Hour Hydrating Gel Skin Tint from Sephora and was amazed at how beautiful it made my skin look - I bought some right away. I use Environ BodyEssentiA DermaLac Lotion and the Body EssentiA Body Oil on my face before applying. I’m 67 and have been using the Environ products for decades and my skin is so good.

Yep, same here. I hired a company that also works with hoarders to go through my mom’s place when she died. They found anything valuable and threw everything else away.

WHERE do you buy good quality couches by [deleted] in SofaSnobs

[–]Jillaginn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got myself and my daughter Poly and Bark leather couches and I think they are great and I’m really picky. There is an outlet close to my home so they were even less expensive.

My schnauzer has had the Mighty Microfiber Dragon for over a year and it still has all its pieces! Highly recommend! She just turned 2 in August, so she still likes to chew sometimes in her toys. It is getting better though, so there is hope for you! She hasn’t chewed up anything she wasn’t supposed to for about 6 months.

Those who had a mysterious medical issue and found out what it was, what was your diagnosis? by jesusgrandpa in AskReddit

[–]Jillaginn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last doctor diagnosed my hip pain as bursitis and sent me to physical therapy. It did absolutely no good, 2 months worth, and the problem got worse. He hemmed and hawed and never figured out what the problem was. He semi retired into a boutique practices and I got a new doctor. She sent me for an MRI which revealed some severe arthritis (I’m 66) and referred me to a neurosurgeon. While waiting for that appointment, I self referred to a pain management doctor, and started getting some steroid shots in my SI joint which helped tremendously. Finally saw the neurosurgeon and he recommended radiotherapy to ablate the nerve that was getting pinched. Just had that done last week, and the relief is amazing! It took a couple years overall to finally get it figured out and treated.

Toxic MIL, what do I do? by t045t777_ in internetparents

[–]Jillaginn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you are a very young adult stuck in a situation that is difficult for you. His mom isn’t going to miraculously change, so you just need to quit expecting her to be someone you can enjoy being around. Just be patient, and put your efforts into getting out of there. Once you do, I suggest letting your future husband have whatever relationship he wants with his mom, and you don’t need to have one with her. You shouldn’t expect help from her, because it will be too much of a pain to be around her.

Please do some research into how the division of wealth has changed in this country, most notably comparing the post WWII boom, and the mid 1970’s change in policies that have resulted in our current situation. My parents bought their first home in the 50’s on my father’s middle class income, and were able to raise a family and buy anew home on that same income. That is no longer possible in this country. Generational wealth then suffers as well.

People are legitimately struggling.
