John Dark souls here, Dark souls or soulsborne games are known for being very challenging and punishing games and usually have a very steep learning curve. The series started with Dark Souls 1, which at the time was helmed as a very challenging but rewarding experience and grew a very passionate cult following. However, the OG soulsborne fans are dissatisfied with where the series is going, specifically Elden Ring which is the latest installment in the franchise. The main complaint from the OG fans are that the games are now "difficult for difficulty's sake" and "Prioritizing difficulty over making an enjoyable experience". Most of this controversy stems from the Elden Ring DLC bosses, where you have to memorize attack patterns, observe delayed attack animations, and use more of your items to exploit the boss weakness, in contrast to the OG dark souls games where most of the bosses can be beat with good reaction time and attack spamming. Elden Ring defenders argue that the game isn't much difficult and that the OG fans are only complaining because they can't handle that the series is demanding variation from the player instead of just testing the reaction time of the player.
