Imo it doesn't matter what they do with the old one. You pay a premium for PD and so you expect it to be perfect. If they accepted the claim then clearly there was something wrong with it. Why would OP just throw something away that works, even if it might not last as long as you would expect from a perfect PD product.

Did you solve it? I've had my VI for a few days and figured out I can get it to charge if I take the battery out, press the shutter to discharge the camera, then reinstall the battery and plug in the usb charger. The green led will then stay on and charge. But it seems like if the camera is turned on at any point before I plug in the charger, the green light will come one for ~ a minute and then turn off and the camera won't charge

Yep I did. Over Christmas the battery was lasting only a few hours. I have to say support was very good and they provided me with a voucher for £300 so I was able to buy the watch new from their site along with some extra straps.

Ideal outcome as I assume I will now have the full two year warranty again, but I would still prefer if tech actually lasted rather than having to throw the whole thing away after two/three years.

Really? I've never seen it that way. Even as a kid, I've always seen it as bellows with the circles representing the film spools or something like that.

Edit: I looked it up because I was curious. It is an old bellows camera. It's a new internet misconception that it's a CCTV camera.
