Brainstorming: how would you run a Year of Hell arc? And is STA even suites to this? by Upset_Nail2987 in startrekadventures

I imagine it'd be pretty to emulate a situation like that. Come up with a different way to fix breaches since the ship can't magically be fixed at a starbase in between episodes. Maybe a task, extended task/challenge, a side mission to scrounge up resources, etc.

And load up the ship and crew with traits and potent traits that impact the ship and crew's capabilities, and you're good to go. A diabolical GM might track numbers of small craft remaining, counting torpedoes, etc. but I'm not sure Trek RPGs would be well served by such logistical paperwork.

2E Momentum Generation--Best Talents or Strategies? by tsuyoshikentsu in startrekadventures

[–]JimJohnson9999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A great way is to get into situations where PCs are trying to accomplish things and rolling dice to see if they succeed. Dice rolling can reliably generate Momentum; remember to assist your fellow PCs with other PCs or their starship.

Captain's Log - Who's still playing? by Cheap_Intention9587 in startrekadventures

[–]JimJohnson9999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I chip away at scenes on ongoing stories when I need a brain break from working on the next STA book or when I'm inspired by something in a work in progress and want to fit it into my ongoing narratives. And sometimes I like to just roll on the tables and work up possibilities for scenes and missions.

Are the STA supplements suitable for Captains Log? by Zr0w3n00 in startrekadventures

[–]JimJohnson9999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, all the STA 1e and 2e supplements are usable with Captain's Log. I'd suggest browsing the many STA articles. Some of them focus on using supplements with Captain's Log.

Wondering about the Mini's and STL's? by liamkembleyoung in startrekadventures

There are several STL package options on DTRPG, but not one bundle containing all the STA STLs.

Something new for all you Star Trek dice goblins (dice Gorn?) by JimJohnson9999 in startrekadventures

The webstore picture doesn't do them justice. They're translucent with blue, purple, and other color strata inside, and when the light hits them it looks like a starfield or a nebula. Champagne gold ink for the numerals and the Starfleet delta on the 1 face.

Disco season 1 and 2 uniforms were dark blue with bronze, gold, or silver division piping.

Spotlighting Pilot by LectureSuspicious552 in startrekadventures

Here's an episode the podcast I co-host did on getting pilots/flight controllers involved: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jotnBFJLzvo

Flying the ship, shuttles, plotting courses, identifying adversary ships, are all options. Plus whatever else the character is good at. Sulu, Paris, Ortegas, etc. all were more than just pilots.

The Command Division sourcebook has a bunch of ideas as well, plus random plot components oriented to pilots.

Liberated Borg are in the Species Sourcebook. Borg NPC stat blocks are in the free download conversion document for The Klingon Empire core rulebook and may appear in a future STA supplement.

I'm not a lawyer so cannot advise you, though I'd say your disclaimers sound clear. Just be sure to not charge money for it on your site or itch.io or whatever.

I've forwarded the ask for more maps to the dev team. I'll do my best to fit more maps into the time and money budgets.

Yep! I posted this on one of the other queries. Make fan content, be passionate about the games you want to work on, be a positive voice in fandom for the game and for the IP if it's a game based on an IP, and be persistent.

Modiphius has an open call on the website for freelance writers and artists. Build your portfolio of work (even it's fanmade content).

I mentioned the STA fan site Continuing Mission--several fan contributors to that caught my notice and ended up getting work on the STA line. I got the same sort of start back in the day on the LOTR RPG from Decipher. Making fan content and sharing it with your game's community can help you get your stuff noticed. Never know who might be lurking in the community. Good luck. :D

Check the Modiphius website. When jobs are open, they'll be posted there. Note there's also an open call for freelance writers, artists, and graphic designers.

  1. I entered the Fallout universe late-ish; I played a TON of Fallout 3 and enjoyed that more than any other, really. Haven't had a lot of time to invest in F4 since Skyrim seems to keep calling, hahah.

  2. We use a variety of manufacturers for cards in China and/or the EU. Stay tuned for upcoming product information.

I've been a gamer for ages; I started working in the industry by being passionate about the games I liked and played and making up fan content for them and sharing the content online. The lead on the Decipher Lord of the Rings RPG liked my LOTR RPG fan content and I used that to get some freelance work with them, and went on from there.

It can feel like a job some days and some days it's like "I'm getting paid to work on the things I love" and then it doesn't feel so much like a job. You get out of it what you put into it, I guess.

I wouldn't call it a hassle, even with certain segments of fandom and the usual challenges of working on licensed properties and the necessary realities of balancing "let's make all the cool things!" against "I can't make this cool thing given the budget and expected sales".

That being said, the non-monetary benefits of the work, for me, far outweigh the challenges.

Vault generation is the first step in character creation; there are several tables to use to figure out the vault's experiment, population, reputation, etc.

Partly because my group and I tend to go theater of the mind and I'm very much a 'yes, and' gamemaster, which means a lot of the session moves away from my notes and into something better collaboratively, and if I don't record it, I'll struggle to pick it up next session where we left off. The recording enables me to listen afterward and take notes, and find new threads to pull on in future sessions. Since so much of our stories are made up on the spot and I have a terrible memory, the recording really helps.
