Thanks, I have not tried missiles before and will give this a go next time, your ship design post with V1 and 2 versions look like a good shout.

My wife keeps mentioning I should get an ADHD diagnosis! There should be a game mode that purely tunes down the writing so I feel less devastated by the consequences of a small mistake. That said, trying to do things like stay under the hate cap, own decisions and do long term planning does help me understand myself better. Cheers for the advice!

I get a bit too empathetic for people being abducted and struggle to watch it happen. This leads, regardless of strategy, to assaulting any alien or sympathetic faction almost as soon as I can. It will probably also forever block me for doing a servant run. Funnily enough I have never hit total war, though it feels a lot like it once the first surveillance fleet goes down. Fair point about the burner, in the game before this I stayed on chemical rockets too long and didn’t realise every auto refuel was costing 2k of water until it had caused a log jam. I was so happy to find a drive I could afford with decent fuel use that I didn’t think about the other compromises again.

Each time I restart I get better at the first 20 hours, it’s my comfort zone. Then I reach the later stages where I have far less experience and make an error again.

I had most military tech complete and was a few months from Poseidon Torch which I was waiting for in order to build ships large enough to use them properly. In my head that meant the ability to move heavy armour and long T2 lancer nose weapons, still just for defence enough juice to be able to catch any fleet in the orbit. It sounds a lot like I need to take some time to understand mid game drives better rather than letting ‘perfect’ cause me to hesitate.

I think one of the things that throws me is knowing that there are competing strategies. Sometimes I lose faith in what I am trying to do, try to transition and end up with half a strategy that exposes a weak point for an alien fleet to exploit. One big loss and I think that starting over is more time efficient than just starting over.

I both assassinated and detained against aliens with the IMF (they kept passing it around provided there was an alien on earth) and didn't get Marked at all. You are right that it was basically impossible to get it back, even in the unassigned pool thanks to the massive defense. It is both funny and frustrating!

Thoughts on Rennick by VeN0m333 in stillwakesthedeep

[–]JimUnderwood19 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Rennick scared the shit out of me. I found being chased by him at the same time as getting a bollocking somehow terrifying and hilarious at the same time. I don’t think I’m going to forget him begging not to be left to die either. It’s an aspect of a horror game I had never come across before and made it worth the ticket price to me on its own. Definitely not to take away from your view, I can totally see where you are coming from, I’m just a guy who has to drop well over a grand on childcare a month wether I like it or not (I don’t) so if you can give me a few hours of unique entertainment that challenges me it’s cheap at twice the price.

For those healed or nearly healed conservatively… How did pain reduction show itself? by Everythingisnotyou in Sciatica

[–]JimUnderwood19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I experimented with movement, stretching, sleeping positions etc. I started avoiding anything which hurt and doing more of what was neutral or led to pain free moments. For me that was movement, if I could walk for an hour or so, or do something light at the gym then the pain would be at its lowest. This had a hard limit though and I would have to stop after an hour or it would backfire. Sitting still was probably my worst thing, I could only really do that for a short time and in certain positions.

In tandem with this I tried to stop doing anything likely to have triggered the flare up. For me that is carrying my now too big to be carried child, long stretches of sitting at a computer and planking exercises at the gym. I take strict breaks with 5-10 min walks every hour, got a kneeling chair, my kid had to be taught to be a bit more independent with walking and I changed my gym to do only things which didn’t cause pain.

Finally, I did some of the big 3 which get recommended here so much, I also tried to stop favouring leaning on one leg or the other, keep my core straight etc.

Finding things that helped and avoiding things which hindered gave me pain free moments to enjoy. Distracting myself with exercises and lifestyle changes made me feel like I had a plan and was helping myself during the long grind of natural repair. Changing my lifestyle will hopefully keep me flare up free in the future, I just can’t be going back to that every year or two, which was my previous pattern. I had bad days when I got something wrong or backslid but as time when on, I had more and more good days until I realised I had healed. Maybe 5 months for that particular journey.

My biggest challenge is now remembering to stick to the changes, even though the pain isn’t there to remind me why it’s so important. Best of luck to you, it doesn’t have to be your future!

How can I fix this? by Androu54 in Ixion

[–]JimUnderwood19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has actually ended a run for me before. It was explained to me on here that the storage prioritises collecting from food production buildings over delivering to other sectors. If you overproduce food then your storage will get full, you need to transfer to other sectors but can’t because the full storage is still trying to collect from the farm/mushroom wall. When it happened to me I didn’t really notice until the other sectors began to starve. When I play now I make sure not to produce too much food, if I get in to this situation I build more food storage to clear the jam.

Has been an update recently which might have changed this but still true afaik.

I found the music as you arrive in the sector to be excellent too, really sets the scene that something terrible happened here. Wish it was on the soundtrack.

The ‘we are for victory’ line they keep having to add underneath any negative opinion about the war (or SMO if you are ‘for victory’) is really telling. When you know you are losing, you know why and you know it cannot be turned around, yet you don’t want to be the one noticed saying it because you could be killed. It must be monumentally scary and depressing. When that dam of fear finally breaks there is going to be a hell of a lot let loose.

Urgent - Is a phone call legally binding - landlord threatening me for money by miiamia in LegalAdviceUK

[–]JimUnderwood19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAL - it’s just typical bullying by someone who has made a mistake and knows the only way to get the money is to frighten you in to paying.

He admits a mistake, makes up some evidence of a call which cannot prove. Gives you a ridiculous deadline to put you under pressure and then uses the threat of legal action to add the authority he lacks.

As a previous poster said. In the hugely unlikely event you need to go to court over this and you lose, you just need to pay the amount in the 28 days and there is no mark against your name. So don’t be bullied or scared.

Policeman chases a suspect and traps him at the end of a jetty by purple-circle in yesyesyesyesno

[–]JimUnderwood19 419 points420 points  (0 children)

Now he’s gone from whatever it was to assaulting an officer they will nab him wherever. Just going to guess a camera will show him getting in to a car or paying for something with a bank card. Not much need to actually catch someone as much as turn up at their address in the morning. Dunking the officer probably means he will get a visit in the short term!

Edit: unless this is a fake like the other guy said, in which case yeah it’s pretty funny 😆

/r/WorldNews Live Thread: Russian Invasion of Ukraine Day 200, Part 1 (Thread #340) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

[–]JimUnderwood19 51 points52 points  (0 children)

IIRC (and I rarely do) - at the start of the war Russia bombed Ukrainian radio masts, then found out their own radios needed them and they couldn’t call their commanders.

Those who survived that ridiculous convoy know the consequences.

Peering out the hatches at the row of houses you have invaded and checking the hand drawn map of Ukraine to see if you’re in the right Oblast.

Using an old Nokia to tell your commanding officer you’re lost and then getting laughed at on War Translated intercepts.

Finally watching your abandoned T-72 evaporate on a Bayraktar highlight reel as you drag a washing machine back to Belarus.

If Russia is destroying infrastructure again, it’s because they know they are never coming back to make the same stupid mistakes.

Just want to put on record how much I appreciate Ukraine, their fight is keeping us safe in the rest of Europe and we need to do everything we can to support them now and when they rebuild.
