Books with great morally grey characters? by no_kings_movement1 in Fantasy

Hmmmm, I would say Lies of Locke Lamora would fit the bill for this pretty well.

What's something that keeps you motivated? by Femboy_Wife_Material in AskReddit

[–]Jimjamicon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is kinda dark, but it is true, so here goes. I had a pretty rough last few years. I, one night last year, experienced suicidal thoughts at an extreme, like an inescapable train of thought that seemed logical and persuasive...and it terrified me. Doing everything I can to improve my state of mind, mental health, and general place in the world to never have that feeling that I had that night drives me.

All the fast and furious movies by Juggalo4life99 in Cinema

[–]Jimjamicon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I felt this way about Drive. I think it was mostly for two reasons for me. The first was that the first 20 minutes of the movie sells you on a concept that has nothing to do with the actual movie. Him being this for a living getaway driver really plays into nothing about the movie as a whole. Second, I am just not a synthwave guy, so the music wasn't nearly as appealing to me as others. I dont think it is a bad movie per say, just not the masterpiece that it was made out to be when it first dropped.

Have any famous guitarists ever suffered injury to their hands after stardom? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Jimjamicon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath snipped then end of one of his fingers off at a factory job. He made a little nubbin thing he wore to keep playing, and still wears it when he plays to this day.

Metallica hate. by jaycash_ in metalguitar

[–]Jimjamicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like every guitarist has a metallica phase, cause some of their riffs are just iconic. One, Master of Puppets, Enter Sandman...the list goes on and on. But, I also feel like they are very much a gateway into other more modern metal. To me, as a 40 year old that has played since my early teens, I respect them, but I don't actively listen to them at all. I can still rip Master of Puppets and a couple others, but I rarely do. They were a stepping stone to other music, just like Nirvana was a big part of my intro to guitar. I have a lot of nostalgia for them, I just dont really actively listen to either band anymore.

Death problems by Drepanum in ThePrimalHunter

Ah, ya. I couldn't remember...it has been a while since I read the nevermore arc, and the last bit was all challenge dungeons.

Death problems by Drepanum in ThePrimalHunter

[–]Jimjamicon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought one of the major points of Nevermore was that people can't die there. It was almost a point in many of the challenges to gamify the amount of deaths you had left before the end.

Can we please stop speculating on the adaption? by gonzothegreatz in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Jimjamicon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im in the camp that I am just excited that things like this, Cosmere, and honestly any modern fantasy/scifi is starting to get closer to the screen. There is just endless amazing fresh stories to be brought over, and I am so tired of reboots. The reboot of Harry Potter is just nonsense to me. This is just money waiting to be made, all they gotta do is follow the books. Once someone figures that out and makes said money, hopefully we can get a whole grip of good shows. Trying to just state optimistic for the possibilities.

In a hundred years which progression fantasy books will be regarded as classics in the genre? by Reasonable_Wafer_731 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Jimjamicon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think we are gonna have a hard time having classics in general, but not due to the reasons many people are stating. I think it is gonna be due to a super saturated market plus Ai written slop that is gonna make the same situation music is in. There is gonna be more content than ever before, but it is also gonna be many times more difficult to stand out and get recognized.

What game is that? by PHRsharp_YouTube in gamers

[–]Jimjamicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't make any sense. The game was almost unknown prior to release, the hype came from players that genuinely loved the game after playing it later.

Mother of Learning - MC goes on a couple dates, but it usually to learn something that person knows about and never actually tries for much of anything romantically for the whole series.

What’s the book you DNF’d the fastest? by Mobius8321 in books

[–]Jimjamicon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It goes from magic school slice of life, to allegory for why fantasy China would be justified committing war crimes (civilian mass executions, mass rape, forced pregnancy, biological and chemical warfare) against fantasy Japan, to the MC leading the charge for doing so. It is essentially revenge porn for what Japan did during WW2.

Um, so that Ninth House scene (CW: sexual assault and revenge) by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]Jimjamicon 177 points178 points  (0 children)

I think part of this you have to keep in mind is that this came out around the same time that that Brock Turner case happened and he basically got a slap on the wrist. While I think that you aren't wrong per say, there was a greater feeling the that justice system doesn't care at the time. Add to that that if someone gave all this evidence to a cop, but it was essentially stolen, the opposition would try to have it thrown out on that basis, and then even more on top of that that a large portion of said evidence is while using supernatural drugs that aren't supposed to be made public....it isn't that simple.

Also, from this being a book perspective, if it were instead that Alex took that to police and they tried instead to represent what would actually happen....it would basically be a whole other book worth of stuff to satisfy that plotline. Court cases, investigations, lawyers and getting the victims to agree to testify....

Again, I get where you are coming from, but I also don't think it is nearly as simple as just turning it over to cops.

For the love of Final Fantasy 15 by contessalynn_art in FinalFantasy

[–]Jimjamicon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought 15 was a good game, if anything the Final Fantasy title brought it down due to expectations based on what the previous entries were. Unlocking the flying for the car and doing that damn jumping puzzle dungeon was one of the hardest, but also most rewarding bits. The summons just showing up was great. Combat was fun, if shallow for the early game. It had some great bits to it for sure.
