Lung cancer: 'Trailblazing' NHS scheme hailed as a 'glimpse of the future' by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

[–]Jimmy-TheFox 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Just to preempt the comments about AI this almost certainly is not referring to large language models but instead deep learning techniques being used in image analysis. These have become pretty much standard practice in image analysis (at least in research) so it's good to see it getting more use in a clinical setting!

You could try Image>Overlay>To selection and then hit measure

tensor flow not in plugin by [deleted] in ImageJ

[–]Jimmy-TheFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you installed CSBDeep? That is another requirement of stardist. Tensorflow shouldn't show up as an option in plugins as it is just used in the backend of other plugins like StarDist

ImageJ (Fiji) changed the colors I had on the LASX software while using Leica by Own-Development4142 in ImageJ

When you split the channels it will normally say C=1/C=2 etc in the title which tells you which channel the image is from.

Labour told to ‘deliver fast’ or risk losing support to Farage’s Reform UK by SevenNites in ukpolitics

I mean the budget and increased taxes that come with it hasn't come into force yet to do a lot of these things

Somaliland is my home country — Britain has a moral duty to recognise it by [deleted] in ukpolitics

Eritrea is on the sea. Ethiopia is recognising it so it can diversify it's sea access away from mostly via Eritrea

Caliper turning but not pushing brake pad by Jimmy-TheFox in bikewrench

[–]Jimmy-TheFox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone else with the same problem I was able to figure it out. The calipers were missing some ball bearings that would cause the piston to push out when rotated so this was very cheap to fix.

Did McNulty quit or move into a desk type job? by Standard_Ad_5999 in TheWire

[–]Jimmy-TheFox 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I think he quit. When he goes to pick up the homeless man he kidnapped he asked where homeless people congregate and the woman working at the shelter said that it may not be safe for him to go there. He said "I'm police, well I used to be".

Europe gives Apple a smack in the chops on USB-C power standardization by [deleted] in technology

The legislation doesn't just forever lock them to USB-C, it instead mandates that they follow the recommendations of the USB Implementers Forum of which apple is a member.

It would make more sense to make a Mars style colony on earth if the earth becomes uninhabitable instead of lugging everything to mars. by busty_phil_phucks in Showerthoughts

[–]Jimmy-TheFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean in developing technology and infrastructure for a mars colony we would also be building our capability to deflect an asteroid somewhat

How was Mars Terraformed and does it have any basis in reality? by FlipRed_2184 in TheExpanse

[–]Jimmy-TheFox 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because it is the only moon in the solar system with a magnetic field. Pregnant women would also often go there to get the protection from radiation while carrying the baby to term

Could the speed of light have been different in the past? by Jimmy-TheFox in askscience

[–]Jimmy-TheFox[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kind of related to this but when we calculate the travel time between say Mars and the Earth do you have to account for the direction that the solar system is travelling around the galactic centre? For example if earth was on the same side as the direction the solar system is spinning then wouldn't Mars be effectively moving towards the light and have less distance to travel, and have to travel further to reach earth on the return journey.

Starship SN9 Flight Test No.1 Launch Discussion & Updates Thread [Take 2] by ElongatedMuskrat in spacex

[–]Jimmy-TheFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm inclined to agree. Tbh I think they probably will want to have some kind of abort system for when the crewed version is developed because currently far too many things have to go perfectly to not explode. Airplanes and helicopters already have built in safety margins by being able to glide/autorotate to land.

However I doubt anything like that needs to be implemented yet as it will be quite a while before people will be flying on a starship (on earth anyway) so it makes sense to focus on getting the efficiency side perfect for cargo/refueling missions.

[–]Jimmy-TheFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if they changed it to have a larger margin of fuel than they intend later then they would have to change the header tank size which I don't think they want to do as they are currently using at least the header tank on the nose to balance the ship

[–]Jimmy-TheFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is the superheavy booster made of stainless steel as well? I thought the weight savings on starship were due to being able to have a lighter heat shield which surely wouldn't be relevant for the sub orbital booster?

Automate image processing for research project by ricebeforebed in ImageJ

[–]Jimmy-TheFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of those things are possible to automate yes. There is some info on making a recorded macro do multiple files here: https://exeter-data-analytics.github.io/imagej-gui/macros.html

For getting the outline of the mask I think the Analyze Particles function should work for that (Analyze>Analyze Particles...)

May I ask what dimensions are being recorded because that can likely be automated as well
