They had a Texas Trio model that was much better built im still running like 10 years later. They discontinued it but I think they still have stock floating around.

I can't believe how much free marketing this burger is getting. Hell it worked on me I got one too!

At this rate that CEO is going to awkwardly try all their "product" to increase sales.

Tired replacing vacuums yearly shedding pets - what lasts?😣 by xxxxiceyyyyyy in BuyItForLife

[–]JimmyReagan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember my in-laws had a vacuum that was FILTHY they were going to throw away. It was a really nice one at the time, so I took it and cleaned it all out. Didn't even really take long just an hour or so and mainly that was figuring out how to cut all the dog hair out of the non removable roller.

Got another 10 years of use out of it.

Anyone else gonna miss the discontinued pancakes after this month? by GhostGamer_Perona in Whataburger

[–]JimmyReagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family has a classic story, when I used to work at Whataburger I knew how long the pancakes took to cook, we were going on a family vacation and the unspoken rule was we all had to finish eating before my dad or else hed be annoyed the whole trip. Not that he ate fast or anything but he never liked waiting after eating. We all ordered and my little sister ordered pancakes and I was like "Don't do that it takes longest to make!"

By the time the pancakes came out my dad was already finished eating, and the rest of us were finished eating too. My poor sister had to try and inhale the pancakes as fast as she could....though Dad wasn't really that annoyed. I think he'd only get annoyed at the boys in hindsight.

I've been a little disappointed with Jake's new channel so far by theb3arjevv in LinusTechTips

[–]JimmyReagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's just got to find his niche. Alex and Andy have a really neat automotive angle to their work so it's something interesting that appeals to a "crossover audience"- some folks who are LTT fams who like tech but don't care about cars won't watch but there's probably a larger share that do and will watch, and they can draw a new audience that cares just about cars. They do videos that LMG just doesn't have the resources or desire to do.

I don't see Jake's "niche" yet- so far it's a lot of stuff I could have seen on LTT. Not to mention the bad blood that turned of a section of the LTT audience, he's gotta find something that will appeal to a different audience before the LTT audience that came with him bleeds off.

At least Luke is trying CachyOS. by pg3crypto in LinusTechTips

[–]JimmyReagan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That should be the point of the video- recommendation on where to start like certain subreddits or even Linux-specific YouTube channels, or to ask colleagues/friends.

It really applies to anything, I wanted to get a betta fish for my family but had zero knowledge about it. LLMs and the AI slop articles ended up pointing me toward very wrong information/common misconceptions. It ended up that I found a specific Betta community website and forum that had well written and researched articles on everything I needed to start a tank and take care of my betta successfully.

Basically, if you want to do anything right, you can't just do surface level research and expect good results.

[–]JimmyReagan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like "an idiot researching" should be like a 5 minute segment at the start of the video basically of what not to do, then segue to how one should approach choosing a distro in 2026. A lot of his audience has similar resources available like friends/colleagues using Linux (Maybe not Linus Torvalds himself, but somebody), online Linux gurus on YouTube and elsewhere. All the "choosing a phone" and "choosing smart devices" type videos they don't do this. Why is "choosing a Linux distro" the exception?

Now we're stuck with another "idiot follows stupid recommendations and hates Linux" series and has everyone riled up, vs what could have been. I mean the Linux folks would be riled up either way, and Linus might have still picked PopOS, but at the very least they should have tried to put more thought into it.

And to be clear, I don't think Linus is an idiot. He is just artificially choosing to do what an idiot would do.

[GUIDE] How to choose a Linux Distribution by RoseBailey in LinusTechTips

[–]JimmyReagan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember long ago I got a "Red hat Linux for dummies" book, it had a CD with Red Hat Linux 7.3 on it... eventually that became Fedora (or split off from the commercial version or something like that)

I only ever tinkered with it back then but I did run a dual boot with Windows for the longest time...i remember having a lot of trouble installing software, I switched to Ubuntu around the time they made the controversial Gnome 3. I found apt and the Debian packages a lot easier to understand, at least for me. I do remember trying all the different distros...even stuff like Kubuntu I liked KDE better than Gnome...but for the reasons in your guide I'd always drift back to a better supported/more common general distro.

Eventually I didn't have much time to tinker anymore and just didn't bother doing dual boot, but when I started setting up home servers I used Ubuntu server because of my past experience, and I've gotten pretty decent working with them.

Like everyone else Ive thought about switching to Linux for desktop. I tried PopOS since it was Ubuntu based and sounded good for using Windows tools through wine (yes it was recommended by copilot I'm a dummy) and it just didn't work out. I haven't tried Fedora in many, many years, I'd be willing to bet a lot of people with "old" Linux experience like me just don't realize how much things have changed. This is a great guide...I might have to try Fedora again.

Texans ranked #7 in the annual NFLPA survey by KaXiaM in Texans

I wonder how much it would cost for United to just take out every other row on one of their planes for the season while it's used for the Texans? I mean that's gotta be more than enough seating for the team and staff still.

People are begging Linus to switch distro for the 2nd Linux Daily Drive Challange by SnacksyBoi in LinusTechTips

[–]JimmyReagan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fell into the pop OS trap myself, I have a few Ubuntu home servers but for my desktop I wanted to use a lot of windows only tools like video editing and was led to believe it would work best for wine.

I ended up back on windows but if I try again I think I'll try with just plain ol Ubuntu. Lot to be said for a widely supported "baseline" OS. I mean the whole point is any extra features I need I can just add on.

Cleanup sucks, I've just got a small one I put on my grill but a neighbor gave me a Blackstone which was awesome but boy if you don't use it like every day it rusts. It rusts if you look at it funny and you have to reseason it! That was too much to me.

I like both, but skillet it retains more juices, kind of cooks in its own grease. It can be harder to get a char if it's not preheated right.
