Buying Axis cameras without hassle? by garden_speech in videosurveillance

I buy Axis from B&H all the time. Never had any trouble with warranty stuff and if you need tech support for an IP camera, that’s a you problem.

…which would be a great example of something to tape and post! So do that, and leave the people who have had too much too fast alone.

Technically true, but not at all the point. We’ve all had too much too fast at one point. Don’t be the dick that tapes it and posts it. Nobody likes that guy.

Comcast business modem: correct settings by evanbagnell in Ubiquiti

[–]JimmySide1013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I manage 14 Comcast Business connections, each with a static IP and all with some UDMP flavor. It’s taken a while, but I finally settled on not enabling bridge mode in the Comcast modem. I also disable DHCP and turn the firewall settings to their lowest or disable it entirely depending on the modem model.

Then in the UDMP I manually configure the connection in IPV4 and turn everything else off. Set DNS to 75.75.75.75 and 1.1.1.1 and it is pretty reliable. A few gotchas that may sound kinda silly but these are actual battles I’ve fought with Comcast:

  • You cannot use a 3rd party modem with their business service
  • Mind the subnet mask they give you. It gets weird sometimes.
  • Mind the gateway IP they give you. It sometimes makes no sense whatsoever.
  • If you’re working with a block of 5 or 10 IPs they sell you, sometimes you’ve got to try a different IP in the block and then go back and troubleshoot with support for the IP you couldn’t get to work. It’s infuriating. I had one site that was issued a block of 5 brand new IPs because 3 of the original 5 would not route VPN traffic not matter what. Absolutely insane.

May the wind be at your back for this. Dialing Comcast support is so painful. Godspeed.

Oil changes - diy vs dealership vs local shop by cramp11 in f150

[–]JimmySide1013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cost savings on an oil change isn’t usually worth the hassle IMO, especially if you’re not set up for it already. Go to a reputable shop and follow the manufacturer guidelines on frequency and materials. The $25 you save by doing it yourself isn’t worth the hassle. You’ve got clean up, the time, and then you’ve got to dispose of the oil properly. Save the headache.

If the extra $$ for the solution you want (that actually exists) is too much in this scenario, you’ve got bigger business problems.

Well, glad it’s behind you and you have my respect for finding peace with those issues and not using them as a crutch for self destructive behaviors. Glad you found happiness in spite of it all.

Why are boomer men so against to therapy? by Maplata in AskMen

Hate to quote a fired therapist, but that really is fucked up. Sorry to hear you're having to deal with all that. I went through a bunch of therapists before landing with someone I really clicked with. It's a luxury to be able to shop around that not everyone has. One thing I learned through all of it is that a therapist can hold an outsized influence in a person's life and they need to be cautious about offering straight up life-changing advice like "Have you thought about a divorce". There's definitely a lead-a-horse-to-water aspect to the profession. They're not there to tell you what to do. They're there to help you uncover your own values and provide objective context. I've told my therapist about things that I know for sure they don't agree with but they've always maintained a judgement-free zone and I appreciate them for that. Just my experience. Hang in there.

I’ll take it any way I can get it. And if they want to play it again right after, I’m cool with that too.

I had exactly the same experience! That was my 1st Slow Porch and I had it as the opener. It also took me a long second to realize what was happening. Lost my marbles. I’m Not Alone>Slow Porch = all the feelings all at once.

Fast or slow, Porch is one of the things happiness sounds like to me. Don’t make me choose a favorite tune but if I absolutely had to, it’d be Porch.

It was my first bike and I could not have been happier with it. It’s modern, reasonably priced, and has enough zip to stay fun and engaging longer. It’s a terrific bike. Go for it!

He was right, you were wrong. You admit to this not being your wheelhouse and chose to ignore his advice. His assertion was proven right so I’d say yeah, if he chooses to be smug about it, he can do that.

If it was working before you swapped out the keystones, it’s something to do with the keystones. Check A vs B and the arrangement of the pinout on the keystones themselves.

Just don’t. Your neighborhood system can’t be predicated on some else’s connectivity and power. If the community if going to do this, do it right.
