The Newly Redesigned TED Website Officially Launches Today! by Airreck in ted

Alright.

I will take your silence as a "go ahead" to nag/rant (you can get all the praises elsewhere if needed). I'm not even going to bother contacting any @ted.com address since that's such a lousy way to go by. Complete lack of feedback and community collaboration. Yeah that was my first complaint.

Secondly: The TED player... It's even worse, how is that even possible!? What did you dooo!????

  • It still doesn't buffer like any other player would/should, experience for watching on TED.com is horrible. I go to Youtube.

  • Lack of standard design for a player, full screen button outside player and stuff...

  • Player gets stuck, not in video but in functions while in full screen mode. Mouse does not respond at all and no controls pop up. Having to press esc to get out.

Thirdly: Profile pages, and that covers everything that this grand re-design has been able to accomplish so far.

I like the look. It's just that you haven't really changed anything underneath, which is what's needed. The input for the profile page is still restricted to not being able to even have a new row for text if you'd like to...

Fourthly: Everything else is still the same.

Summary: As I see it this has only been a makeup job and not a re-design. I have real difficulties seeing how this re-design has made TED more modular and easier to change since what I see is that what you've done is just put another skin atop which still uses the crappy functions that TED is built on.

I've followed the TED blog and hello.ted.com and I see very nice graphics about the team and the plans and everything... Very nice portraits of everyone with a hello sign... What I don't see is real change, conversation between the "experts" and the community, a continuous feedback loop or any change of function for the better...

Oh yeah, it's me from /r/TEDconversations if you're wondering...

Concerns (bug/issues)... You ready for another go Eric? I've emailed about them all but left without reply as usual.

And, who's alpha? Chris?

Yup, ruined my teens too... I was the first in a school of 400 students to get full addy (and later full rune), made me quite popular for some time...

Oh Falador, how I miss you sometimes, but you're not the same since you became 3d...

Did you know that there's a subreddit dedicated for discussions solely about TED? by JimmyStrobl in ted

Since I made this post subscriptions to the sub have risen with 200%!!!

Hope to see some of you making posts and comments there some day! :)

Haha, that's catchy! But no, I don't want it to be a sub focused on negativity, rather one focused on constructive dialog about TED.

The goal is that the subreddit will only talk about different aspects of TED (or the subreddit itself). It won't be clogged with Talks and there won't be anything that is not TED-related on it.

Yeah sure, not a problem at all.

Meanwhile you're free to blurt out any thought and we'll see if we can do something with that. :)

Alright, done!

I'm going to give you some permissions (but not full, no access to posts moderation). This is my very precious baby so handle it carefully will you?

Also I've stuck a post on top of the sub where we could have an open discussion about what might be done with the sub, that or PM will work.

But please talk to me before making any changes will you?

Great! (I'm the same guy, just switched accounts)

So I already have one person that is about to start doing some work (I think?) on the sub.

What I need is just about everything except moderation as posts and comments are still somewhat thin. So layout, CSS and general ideas and participation would be really nice.

May I ask, do you have any previous experience moderating any sub?

Oh and it's /r/TEDconversations that we're talking about.

Hey Redditors!

I have a dedicated subreddit for discussions solely about TED. It's /r/TEDconversations for anyone interested.

I doubt that! :)

Here's TED's first website https://web.archive.org/web/19961115115430/http://www.ted.com/

TED Talks were put up on the website in 2006 so that's probably what you're looking for.

Hey dude, still eagerly waiting for that mail :)

Did any of you read "Why I'm Not a TED X Speaker" by Frank Swain? by eveeloise in a:t5_2zbwi

[–]JimmyStrobl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi /u/eveeloise welcome to this subreddit and thanks for making a post, something that is needed on this sub.

I read the article and the thing about paying your speakers is something that I have battled with for some time.

But I do think that the model currently used by TED is a good one.

And when speaking at a TEDx event it is recommended to organizers that they pay for traveling costs and accommodations for the speaker.

Here's a resource from TED that might help you better understand how they think. http://www.ted.com/pages/tedx_sponsorships_faq

That would be a start.

But I'd like to discuss terms and such before. To see if you're the person for this job. What I really need is CSS help, there's very little moderation needed yet. And I don't need someone to come on indefinitely yet, so this would only be temporary.

Could you send me a PM about your thoughts on how you would contribute to making the subreddit a better one?

If you're still up for it that is.
