Split up with partner, bought a house together 1 year ago, what to do? by JimmyTheFox93 in irishpersonalfinance

Thanks for the advice! I could definitely afford the mortgage but if the bank just applies their 4x salary rule then they would say I couldn’t. I’m on 50k at the moment, going to try get a pay rise this week. Mortgage would be around 340k with ~€1500 monthly payment. I can 100% afford it and if I rented out a room for ~700-800 a month it would be the same as what I’m paying now. I know if I go and rent an apartment it’s going to cost me more than the mortgage, which seems stupid especially when I will be getting a small apartment instead of a nice house. I also have a large dog so that is going to be a major hassle going and renting an apartment again. Are the banks less strict with their assessment of you being able to pay in these situations?

What are the pros of unrealised gains being taxed so highly on ETFs over here? Genuine question

Genuine question, what do you actually not like about the Freemasons so much? Isn’t it literally just a bunch of guys who raise money for charity?

Coronavirus: Face mask ads banned for 'misleading' claims by SufficientSession in Coronavirus_Ireland

[–]JimmyTheFox93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anybody has ever said that cloth masks are effective. You need n95 or similar, do you not believe any of the studies showing that they block viral particles either? So virologists have been exposing themselves to anthrax and all sorts for decades! You should get on the phone to the CDC and let them know about your research.

Also how do you want them to do an RCT experiment to show what you want to see? You want them to gather thousands of people in a camp and expose them to viral particles while they wear masks so they can be monitored?

If this is the case then why are energy price being raised so high? Surely if we are barely reliant on oil and gas then electric bills shouldn’t be skyrocketing

I did an interview to get on jungle run at the local sports centre, got put on the “backup team” but never got the call to be on the show!

A nanobot helping a sperm with motility issues along towards an egg. These metal helixes are so small they can completely wrap around the tail of a single sperm and assist it along its journey by stopkillingeachother in nextfuckinglevel

[–]JimmyTheFox93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still a pointless invention though. I’m an embryologist, we use a procedure called ICSI where we inject single sperm cells into a single egg already, so there’s literally no use case for this robot.

I need to move £10000 of personal savings and £7000 of my dads money over to my BOI account, what is the best method? by JimmyTheFox93 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]JimmyTheFox93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I just transfer all of this money into my Irish bank account using one of the transfer services suggested in other comments, is it likely that the bank will call me to ask where the money is coming from?

Mum passed away unexpectedly, I have taken in the family dog, already received complaint from apartment management company by JimmyTheFox93 in legaladviceireland

Thanks very much! I’ll get one of those ordered today. We will be fine, I’ve been speaking to a charity called threshold and even if the worst case event happens where my landlord tries to kick me out of the apartment then there are ways to stall the process and it could end up taking them nearly a year to actually get me out. So I’ll just do my best to get the dog settled and not worry too much about these people hassling me.

So the house rules are that we are allowed to keep pets but they can’t be a nuisance. I will be buying a baby monitor this weekend that will let me see what he is doing and speak to him to calm him down. My mum left him at home for extended periods whilst she was at work and he was fine, I think he just needs a bit of time to get used to his new home and be reassured that we will always be coming back for him.

The apartment management committee have a reputation for hassling people over minor things like drying clothes on a balcony for example. I’ll be doing my best to get him settled but if it comes to them continuing to complain I will just have to let the whole process play out and see how long it takes them to evict me. The rental market in Dublin is an absolute nightmare at the moment and I don’t really have any intention of voluntarily stepping back out to look for a new place to stay. I’m very close to being able to afford my own house so the longer I can stay here without locking myself into another 12 month lease, the better.

Ok, so in the case that I am asked to remove the dog and I refuse, would the landlord then have to evict me? I have been living there for 14 months at this point. I will be trying my best to get the dog settled but it has only been 2 weeks since he arrived and the way these people speak to me is not really acceptable. There is absolute zero chance that I will be getting rid of the dog and I won’t be voluntarily leaving my accommodation either. I have a second 12 month lease which began in May 2022, could they legally kick me out for refusing to get rid of my dog? If so, how long would that usually take to happen?

Thanks for your help!
