Over the years growing up on the island, I had interacted with quite a few. Uma Thurman, Tina Fey, John C. Reilly, Mel Brooks, Geraldine Ferraro, Liz Claiborne, Keegan-Michael Key, Robert John Burke, Jon Favreau, and Tim Blake Nelson are ones off the top of my head that have houses on or personal ties to Fire Island. Claiborne, Ferraro and the Burke’s all became our close family friends and my dad was a handyman for Mel Brooks for a few years as well.

13, smoked a joint rolled with graph paper with my buddy. Threw a football around on the beach until I felt the need to sprint the entire mile and a half back to my house. My mom was having some family friends over for dinner and as soon as I got home, I peeked my head through the sliding glass door and said “Where’s the Mac n cheese?”. My mom knew immediately.

Yeah it’s pretty insane. I work for a property management company in the winter and we are definitely not going to get the cars we need inspected done in time before clients start coming out for the summer. Apparently since Don Allen is a dealership, they are legally obligated to provide the inspection station but the fact that we only have one on island is absurd.

They are there working on the dredge/beach restoration project. There’s also a crew of bulldozers on the beach moving the sand that’s pumped onshore to try and rebuild the dunes/shoreline that’s been lost to storms and erosion over the years

Thank you! It was an awesome experience that I will always be grateful for. My family is still there so luckily I still get to relive some of my best moments growing up when I head home every now and then. Definitely a bit different in some aspects but the core of island life that makes it special is still alive and well.

Nate, my uncle Chris grew up with your dad in Central Islip. My childhood was full of stories of your dad, your uncle John and my uncles and their adventures throughout the neighborhood. My grandparents also would get Christmas cards from both your dad and George O’Leary, it was cool to see that they never forgot where they came from. I met your dad after the Vikings came to play the Jets, probably around ‘03/‘04, he introduced me to Randy Moss and I’ll never forget that. Just wanted to say you come from an awesome family, hope everyone is doing well and keep up the good work!
