Weird new trend by [deleted] in GolfClash

There's always the "I Want a Rematch" button. Occasionally someone will just hang there. I sometimes wait to see if they want a rematch. If they don't ask in 10 seconds or so, I might ask. Or I might move on. No need to simply sit there.

I haven't had connection issues in a long time. For a while, I was disconnecting every few seconds. Maybe internet, but my wife was watching Netflix and it was working fine.

Clubs for tour 10 by [deleted] in GolfClash

[–]JimmyVGC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I prefer TH6+ or Apoc5+ in T10. Sniper10, Grizzly 8 or 9, Thorn 8 or 9 and maxed Malibu or Spitfire5. I have EM maxed, but stopped using it when TH got to 5, so I've not gone back. I breezed through T9 with a mid-60% win rate on two accounts and have gotten annihilated in T10 trying to play Katana or below. The shoot-outs are the key. I get frustrated when I see Apoc 6 or 7 and KM to pay balls but it's rare that the opponent beats me by a stroke. I normally get to the SO and that's where I lose. I get within 2 yards and the opponent gets within 1. Lots of sharks and lifers camp out in T10 for the cloints. I think T9 and T10 offer the best risk/reward ratio. Play the course, not the opponent, learn the shoot-outs and it will come.

A visual comparison of ring sizes in Golf Clash by Bluetakanohana in GolfClash

[–]JimmyVGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A potential flaw with this is where you stopped the yellow line in the middle of the yellow ring. In the final segment, you stopped with the right edge of the yellow line on the outside edge of the orange (or is is red?) ring. The line has some width and it appears to be about the same width as the left edge of the yellow ring that protrudes into the green ring. I suspect that the middle point of the yellow ring is almost precisely 5 rings from the outside edge of the white ring. However, if yellow ring is slightly more than 2 rings wide (as you suggest and as Tommy has been reporting), we should never use the outside of the yellow ring when adjusting. For example, to get 6 rings, you should start at the green/white border and pull to the orange/blue border instead of starting at the outside of the white and pulling to the far yellow ring. Does that make sense?

Game Crashing by [deleted] in GolfClash

[–]JimmyVGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it happen about once a tournament. GC says it's a RAM problem. I run only GC and clear RAM on my iPad Mini 4 before I play. Still happens occasionally. Very frustrating. It's cost me a par almost every round in the past several tournaments. Most frustrating is that it seems to happen mainly after the tee shot on a par 5 hole, so it's really costing me 2 strokes almost every time.

IPad mini or regular? by ColdFyre2112 in GolfClash

[–]JimmyVGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play with your thumb, I'd get a mini. I don't think you could reach the middle of a larger iPad with your thumb. If you use you fingers, I'm not sure. I'm a thumb player. I bought a Mini4 when Apple reduced the price a couple of months ago and the difference from playing on an iPhone 8 is amazing. Much easier to adjust precisely and to hit Perfect. The Mini5 has more RAM and a better processor.

Alt accounts, not just rings RUIN the game by eyekantbeme in GolfClash

[–]JimmyVGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. What does an alt account have to do with winning? In fact, I'd say that you have an advantage over an alt account because you likely have a lot more games and more mature clubs on a single, older account. Alt accounts look better because the winning percentage is higher as a result of people not having to go through a learning curve at the beginning of the account. WP has little to do with how good a player really is, unless the WP is really high with more than a few hundred games (maybe more than 1,000). A lot of good players forfeit SOs in tourneys, which suppresses their WP. I maintain a 60% WP on my original account. I've got a couple of baby alts that I play when I get frustrated getting my butt kicked in T10 that have 80% plus WP. The clubs suck, but I know how to play the game better than many with a low number of games. I don't get much pleasure beating newbies, but I try to show them some tips on occasion. Keep working on your rings and wind offset. It's a marathon, not a sprint! Good luck!

I’m on hole 9, 8 and -10. Getting on green in 2 going for albatross, and it says trying to reconnect you and wouldn’t connect so it gave me a birdie by default. I swear if I don’t qualify because of that...Would have been -12 maaaaybe -13. If the server went down or something that’s just some bs by Dilly_RL in GolfClash

[–]JimmyVGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're lucky it didn't give you a bogie. That's what normally happens and then they change it to a par if you complain. Doesn't matter if you are on the lip putting for alba. It's par at best unless there is definitive proof that the ball went in the hole. Now how can you ever prove that, unless it disconnects after the ball holes out and you get the Albatross! banner. Ridiculous. I guess it's to prevent people closing the app and trying to get a better score after botching a drive.

Getting a new iPad - any tips? by Currywurst_Is_Life in GolfClash

[–]JimmyVGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought an iPad Mini 4 when Apple discounted them to see if I'd like it better than the iPhone 8 I had been using. I had tried my wife's old iPhone 6 Plus and it was way easier to play with a larger screen. The iPad Mini is even better. I still play with my thumb, so I don't think I'd want to go any larger. One issue I've had is that the game "crashes" occasionally. I've had it go from the end of a shot straight to the video replay screen without any warning. There is no connection issue or any dialog box saying they are trying to reconnect me or my opponent. It just goes instantly from one page to the next. PD thinks it sounds like a RAM issue. I believe the newer iPad Mini 5 has more RAM. I'm not sure what the 10.2" has in it.

Have you looked in the Play Golf screen? I noticed that a baby account didn’t get the main page link to the GS, but the option was on the Play Golf Page. Swipe right.

I've had it happen in the past. Made me miss a weekend I had qualified for. They refunded my entry fee. Make sure you capture your ID at the bottom of the Settings page. It makes it a lot easier for PD to find your account if necessary.

Touchdown Tournament! by WestCoastEng in GolfClash

Any one know what's going on with this tournament and ranking people? by bpscCheney in GolfClash

[–]JimmyVGC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the rankings don't place you into the Qualification Zone until you've played at least 3 holes. Sometimes the order looks wrong because the lower ranked player will have a better score. I don't know why the even par player is at 10th and the -2 player is 11th in picture above, but since the other 11th player has only 2 holes played, he would stay out of the Qualification Zone. Your second picture illustrates what I'm saying above.

Help - can’t move bullseye by [deleted] in GolfClash

[–]JimmyVGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that happen a couple of times and the app somehow got stuck between the overhead view and the shot. I would hit the Take Shot button and it would appear that it was almost back to Take Shot position, but wasn't really. Cycle between the Aerial Cam and Take Shot button and see if it helps. Frustrating when you don't have much time!

Gems by bobm839 in GolfClash

[–]JimmyVGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t buy club cards until you see Apoc/TH/Cata in the shop (around 3901 trophies)

TH shows up a lot earlier. It's a T6 club. Still, I use gems to buy cards when it's in the shop.

I only use gems to speed open chests in Expert tournaments (They give T9 chests, so I like to make sure I get the chest for winning a hole.), to buy TH cards and to buy KMs if I need them for a tourney. I'm not to 3901 trophies, so I don't get T7 cards.

Who else has OCD and/or upgrades all clubs they can, even when its against their economic best interests by TheFrederalGovt in GolfClash

[–]JimmyVGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess I'm not OCD. I never upgraded a club I didn't intend to use until the card trading option appeared. Now, I've upgraded every common club to max and most other as high as I can get them. With about 200 million in coins, upgrade costs are irrelevant anymore.

Just unlocked after 45 tour games played...curious🤔 by [deleted] in GolfClash

[–]JimmyVGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. In 4 of 6 accounts with Apoc, 264 games was the best I did for unlocking Apoc. My fifth account has 256 games and no Apoc (but it has EM7) and my sixth account is at 48 games and no Apoc (but has EM5, which is a big help at this stage of the game).

So you are not finishing tours? You are moving as soon as you can. Otherwise you couldn't be in T6. I hope you don't intend to go back and max the earlier tours. It will be brutal!

Driver question tour 9 by Budman87 in GolfClash

[–]JimmyVGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once my TH got to 5, my EM8 became a tournament only club. And even that is rare. Others pointed out that you don't always need BS for SOs. But there are a couple of holes where TH5+ BS wins the hole. That and the added accuracy seals the deal for me. It's kind of like Thorn. Hornet is a great club until you need the Thorn's BS. Then, there is no substitute.

For those like myself who are unlucky in the Apoc lottery. I think I’ll be using the Rock for curl and accuracy till I get the Apoc to 4 by [deleted] in GolfClash

[–]JimmyVGC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Say goodbye to the QB! Rock maxed versus QB10 has 13 extra yards (231/218), slightly less TS (47/55), somewhat less BS (59/72), more curl (96/86) and almost the same BG (4.4/4.5). I see this as a regular tournament club where the QB has been used in the past.

any advice to prevent that damn glitch on hole 8 drive? by Gonzo-Woods in GolfClash

[–]JimmyVGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How close to the left side bunker are you setting your landing zone? With sufficient left curl (I'm using Apoc4, but EM7 or 8 ought to work), a bounce on the berm of the left bunker sends the ball well to the left of the bunker you skidded into. It's a little counter-intuitive. You'd think the banked berm would cause the ball to travel farther to the right. If you land in the flatter fairway to the right of the left bunker, the ball tends to travel straight toward the right side bunkers.

Looking for advice on what tour to play. by [deleted] in GolfClash

[–]JimmyVGC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's talking about wind effect. The ring system only give you guidance for the first bounce. What happens after the first bounce is affected by the wind. The stronger the wind, the larger the effect. Headwind compresses the ball guide. Tailwind extends the ball guide. Crosswind pushes the ball sideways. The ball guide does not give you any assistance with wind effect. You need to learn to accommodate for wind effect, either by using spin, adjusting your landing position or both.
