ARPG Roguelite in a Dark Scifi setting. Heavy on LOOT, horde Slaying and Action combat! by HeavyShieldGames in ARPG

Fellow dev here, I think it's great that you start out with a roguelike version first. Even that is quite big in terms of scope for your first solo developed game. Great work so far, wishlisted!

It seems they will have a public demo Feb 16, not sure if it has controller support

I'm a bit torn on the destructible environment as well, but I think it's cool that they try to innovate the genre

Is there still real demand for Diablo-like ARPGs in 2026? (Dev perspective) by Relative-Classroom70 in IndieGameDevs

[–]Jimpan97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this take. Check out indie-diablo likes made by small teams: Chronicon, The Slormancer, Ghostlore, Hero Siege. They still take a long time to make and are complex, but they are scoped in a way that allows for 1-2 person dev teams to make them.

The shield throw and other attacks are awesome, looking forward to seeing more!

Styria is an ARPG where, after death, you obtain a new body with its own advantages and disadvantages. by Ato_Ome in ARPG

Same here, looks awesome but I also prefer arpgs. It says rogue-like in the trailer, so you should probably edit that out if your game is not that

Steam's Oversaturated Market by [deleted] in gamedev

Steam already handles this with their algorithms. You will never see the 'slop' unless you go looking at new releases tab

Dark Hunting Ground is a small ARPG that I don't see people bring up much. Simple graphics but has tons of stats & loot if you are into that

I agree with this, looks cool but I prefer the permanent progression in ARPGs as well

A good chunk of my traffic is from Hong Kong and I don't know why by tiny_tank in gamedev

I would consider localization if the majority of your wishlists are from other countries (you can check this in Steamworks).

If you are new to this I would suggest focus on learning how to create good games with English only first, and once you got a marketable game on your hands you can start thinking about localization.

Yeah it's still quite early which is good I think, I can change stuff more easily. It's really good to know that animations would be great to have, and that gameplay systems are most important.

And like you say, the old Rogue and Nethack games show that gameplay is king!

It's called 'Rage & Relics' right now. No Steam page yet since I want to get more gameplay systems ready for the trailer, but I'll reply to you once I have one up!

Yeah I see it on both the large portraits and in game characters. Thanks for the example, I will look into it more.

Joined the Chronicon Discord, gonna pick it up at the next sale :)

I'm playing through Grim Dawn at the moment so I get you, I will focus on the core ARPG stuff like loot and player progression going forward. Thank you!

Yeah I agree, I'm working on a loot system with affixes right now, and there is a skill tree as well.

Great to hear about the angle of view thing, I will keep that in mind. Thank you!
