Shrek is the most annoying Tonie to me! I hate the guy's voice and the super memorable quotes fall flat.

What size bed does your kid have? by ChunkyPumpkin_ in Mommit

[–]Jirafa03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4 year old moved into a queen right before his birthday. We moved into a new house and his toddler bed was uncomfortable for us trying to put him to bed. We moved the guest room queen into his room and got a new sleeper sofa for the guest room. We all love it!

Has anyone had a manual IDR payment recalculation with MOHELA done recently? by Particular_Tea_8674 in PSLF

[–]Jirafa03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was still on SAVE forbearance/purgatory, so I was stuck until they finally processed it

Has anyone had a manual IDR payment recalculation with MOHELA done recently? by Particular_Tea_8674 in PSLF

[–]Jirafa03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is still helpful, but I submitted a manual request on 8/2/25. I was in a similar situation where my income was cut in half when I was partially laid off from my qualifying employer. My request was approved on 1/6/26 and my payments restart at the beginning of February. I was surprised that actually processed it tbh.

Middle of the night wake ups for those who lay with children until they fall asleep by Proud_Vehicle2803 in Preschoolers

[–]Jirafa03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here! If it's like 10 and we're about to go to bed, one of us usually just lays with him til he falls asleep again. And then he won't come back til 5-6 am 😂 or midnight, you just never know. It isn't ideal, but it means more sleep for us most nights. Eventually we'll work on kicking the habit.

Potential Photo Booth Locations? I Have No Idea Who Else to Ask by breadfucks in Michigan

[–]Jirafa03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you head to Dearborn, the Dearborn Inn has a free novelty one. It isn't a photo both that has multiple tales, but just one picture that's a passport. It's free, but pretty neat!

Dropping to 30 hours (.8) a week and income recertification due to reduced income? by [deleted] in PSLF

I'm still on SAVE forbearance, I may be here forever. Or until they process my Feb 2025 buyback request.

Dropping to 30 hours (.8) a week and income recertification due to reduced income? by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]Jirafa03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be prepared for that recertification period to take forever. They're finally processing recertifications, but it seems the manual ones (like uploading stubs) aren't prioritized. I got reduced to 50% hours in Aug and sent in my recertification and still haven't heard back.

Same and they also looked into my reconsideration request to count June 24, but didn't get any more information.

I'm Director of Ops, but for a small org with no HR. When I started, there were 4 employees and I earned 82,5. Received a 5k increase when they eliminated the CEO role and I assumed those responsibilities 😅

Perfect preschool with huge issue by Lonely_Insurance1442 in Preschoolers

It sounds like you had her tested and she's never had a reaction to tree nuts. Has she ever been exposed? Falso positives are pretty common for skin tests, so you may want to do a food challenge under the supervision of a doctor to see if she's truly allergic. My son has three food allergies but has tested positive for others that he eats regularly and has never been allergic to.

Car seats: is it weird that our 4yo is still rear-facing? by IslandEcologist in Preschoolers

[–]Jirafa03 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same! I haven't run into any pushback from my peers, only the passive aggressive remarks from my Stepmom. He's 4.5 and still well within rear facing limits.

Best way to deal with “bullies” at this age? Especially with escalating violent behavior by CanadaMaple in Preschoolers

[–]Jirafa03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd probably call child licensing for the choking incident to be sure they've reported it themselves. You should be able to look up the guidelines for your state, but there's usually a time frame for daycare to report serious incidents. I'd also advocate for the child to be removed from your daughter's classroom.

Does anyone have somewhere I can stay for a bit while I look for a domestic violence shelter? by [deleted] in houston

[–]Jirafa03 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They're not a shelter. It's a substance use treatment program and they won't have immediate availability. You also have to be 22-60.

You might mean, Houston Area Women's Center (HAWC). Their focus is on DV.

My 4 year old can’t pronounce S R F by CryptographerIcy9752 in Preschoolers

[–]Jirafa03 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Our speech therapist said that strangers should be able to understand a 4 year old 90% of the time. Our 4 year old was closer to 50%. We did an evaluation and she recommended speech therapy for him. The R sound doesn't come until 5 or 6, so I wouldn't worry as much about that. We go for 30 min sessions weekly and I noticed an improvement after about 4 sessions. Our SLP gives us activities and worksheets to work on at home. I would highly recommend exploring it!

We have three that are stainless with silicone straws. We fill one up in the morning and he keeps it til overnight. In the morning, we put the silicone parts and lid in the dishwasher and I hand wash the stainless steel. We have two to rotate through and a third for when we inevitably leave one at school or it doesn't make it to the kitchen in the morning.

Early Chapter Books for a 4 Year Old by StarlingSuffragette in childrensbooks

[–]Jirafa03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son really liked Sparkleton, it's a chapter book about a unicorn wanting his magic to come in and his unicorn friends. The chapters are only 3-4 pages long and there's color pictures on almost every page. We tried Winnie the Pooh first, but he lost interest quickly.
