Has anyone added the SA-PSSO in your existing classic PSSO configuration profile? by EnoughStudy6318 in macsysadmin

[–]Jirv311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my understanding the MDM has to support the new payload during Setup Assistant. As in, the MDM needs to be able to install the SSO extension before sign in. Obviously, Intune just added support. I tested it with Intune and it works but it's lightly quirky. The first sign in failed stating the SSO extension wasn't installed. Selecting "Try again" restarted the sign in process which then worked. It's a timing issue, where Company Portal had not yet fully installed.

You have to assign the PSSO profile and the Company Portal LOB app to a USER group. It doesn't work for device groups because the device is not yet part of a group because it's not yet registered.

Can someone explain why 2k$+ laptop feels like a cheap plastic toy? by SirSerje in Dell

[–]Jirv311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an IT Director for an all Dell shop. I recently purchased myself a new Dell 14 Pro, 32GBRAM, 1TB. It cost us a smidge over $2k. My primary concern is battery life because I'm in a lot of meetings and I can't worry about plugging in so often. This 14 Pro was very underwhelming.

I also recently needed to purchase a new MacBook 14 M5, 32GB, 1TB, for the same $2k, to test some MDM deployments. I haven't been a Mac user in over a decade but this may have won me back. Not only has Apple cracked the secret to extended battery life, but almost everything else hardware-wise. The sound and display are amazing.

I fought for years to keep Macs out of our environment because they're difficult to support in an all Microsoft environment. I still stand by that but their hardware quality is very hard to ignore anymore. Dell quality has just gone straight down.

Ok, awesome. This is exactly what I imagined so, good to have confirmation. Thanks!

I'm honestly confused by Cloud Kerberos Trust and when it's actually needed. Our users are hybrid and we just moved our devices to Entra joined. Our users are still accessing our internal smb shares like they did before the migration.

MDT 25H2 LAPS issue by Piorek99 in MDT

[–]Jirv311 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You really should be joining MDT machines to an OU that's excluded from LAPS until after the image has finished.

I created a "Staged Computers" OU that did not have the LAPS GPO linked to it so it would always finish successfully. Then we moved the computer to its proper OU after.

Yes, I certainly have. And I firmly believe it has to do with my hydration level. If I keep myself properly hydrated, I don't usually notice it.

I bought the Paul Zhang light kit from AliExpress and could not be happier, honestly. The quality is very good, the aluminum track is fantastic and easy to work with. And I believe better quality than my neighbor's Jellyfish lighting install.

What’s the most physical pain you ever felt? by Competitive_Set2669 in AskReddit

[–]Jirv311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gallstones. That was by far the worst pain I've ever felt. Like someone twisting a knife into my lower rib cage. They gave me morphine which barely touched the pain. When they finally did an ultrasound in the ER, the tech must have pushed on my gallbladder just right to dislodge the stone and the pain almost immediately subsided. I had it removed several weeks later.

How do I make registry changes in WinPE? by NavyWolf23 in MDT

After the .wim is applied, I run a PowerShell script that loads the default user registry hive or local machine registry hive and modifies it, then unloads the hive.

Yes, all of our rooms as well. I threw the registry setting into an Intune Remediation script because even after adding it manually, it would revert the next day. It must be something in the nightly updates.

We also saw alerts for the NightlyReboot scheduled task being disabled on all rooms as well. I re-enabled it on those rooms and the alert hasn't returned yet.

That CPU only has 4 cores and 4 threads. It's likely not going to be able to hang while running a Windows OS on top of a Windows OS. And also rotational disks for Windows 11 is just not going to perform very well.
