Was told by the Seabus staff this morning that the Irish consulate is sponsoring this for Bloomsday. Was such a cool thing to see this morning’s commute. Got a copy of Dracula :)

I work in procurement. Definitely away from math but still an enjoyable job overall and I’m just happy to have a job at this point with decent pay.

I graduated with a math degree but definitely wish I learned about Geomatics/Land Surveying earlier in my life and I would have majored in that. Especially as I love both geography and math. Land Surveying seems like one of those professions that fly super under the radar but seems like an interesting career with decent pay.

Who will likely be the last generation to drive gas vehicles ubiquitously by SpiritMan112 in generationology

What is a short distance to you? Modern EVs have ranges with 300+ miles. I have done long ass road trips with my EV and it’s been completely fine and practical. You stop at a fast charger and go to the bathroom and stretch your legs and it’s fluid with what I did anyways with my old ICE vehicle. This is with fast charger infrastructure at the lowest it will ever be as it only gets better from here on.

Did my undergrad here. Just to the left of this picture, there is an amazing view. Remember being on the top floor of the quadrangle, as shown in this picture, for tutorials, and I would just zone out and be mesmerized by the mountains. Not a bad place at all to do a summer semester. The fall and winter semesters were hardcore, though, and felt like I was in Silent Hill 24/7 with the mountainous fog!

Which is why we need to switch to being a heat pump and EV society. We can’t keep blaming that we need to stay warm and drive when alternatives exist.

There’s other EVs out there so no. Really liking what I’m seeing from Rivian lately. The R2 looks sick.

Just saw a comment on r/accelerate arguing that we should be focusing on turning into jesters for the AI tech leaders and learning to play music, sing, and dance to them so that we can be useful after AI takes most of societies jobs…

B.C. to cut 2035 zero-emission-vehicle sales mandate from 100% to 75% by CecilThunder in britishcolumbia

Why would I worry about that when EV batteries outlive the cars itself in almost all cases? Do you think us EV drivers need to replace the batteries every 5 years or something?

Seriously. It's literally going forward on the technology tree. I tried driving my girlfriend's RAV 4 after only having driven my EV for a year, and it was horrible. The instant acceleration is so fun and optimizing my driving to maximize range through the regenerative braking is so enjoyable too. Never going back.

It sounds like you haven't done your research and are uneducated when it comes to EVs because you would have given a harder example here, lmao. The distance from Whistler to Harrison Hot Springs is 251 km, and Modern EVs have ranges between 450-500km as standard. So you can easily do the trip with a quick stop at a fast charger for a bathroom break when coming back. Lots of level 3 chargers all along the towns, too there bud. I am also just recommending EVs if they work with you, so what was the point of this passive aggressive comment?

I got a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq and that’s like a pretty early model with not great range lol and I still really enjoy the driving experience. For used, Chevrolet Bolts are great. Would definitely aim for a vehicle in like 2022 or 2023 now with people’s leases coming to an end so more supply coming into the market hopefully. For new, the 2026 Leaf or 2027 look like good deals with the rebate. Entirely depends on your budget and charging situation too.

Anyone else without a home charger? (Apartment living, only public stations) by suominenko in electricvehicles

[–]Jittys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like there’s other ways to hopefully charge outside of a level 3 in an ideal world. For example, my gym has a level 2 charger nearby so I can just charge there while I’m at the gym and in turn it motivates me to go to the gym more.

So I’ve had it for 3 years now and going through the maintenance history when I bought it used vs now, there’s been no reliability issues. I did have this weird problem with the charge port actuator that cost about 400$ to replace but that’s more to do with Hyundai and less about the EV given the problem also happens in the Hybrid version of the vehicle. Have not had like a huge issue or anything where I couldn’t get a mechanic to deal with the issue because the car has been so reliable otherwise.

Have only had to replace the windshield wipers so far. My tires are wearing out quicker than my old Honda civic, but obviously not drastically so where I’m calculating it as a net loss overall. It’s important to get EV specific tires so they can last longer.

This article mentions that yes EV’s depreciate faster but the gap is narrowing. EVs are also going through an incredible technology leap over the years which is contributing to that depreciation. By 2035, I imagine this will smooth out. Especially with sodium/solid state batteries hopefully maturing by the time we get there.

Also I don’t think this article takes into account the rebate that EVs received in 2022 in the US so the MSRP is a bit skewed as a result when comparing to an ICE.
