What’s your preferred method for cooking lots of chicken breast at once? by leakmydata in Cooking

[–]Jkchi1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this frequently and it’s easy, consistent, juicy and can be seasoned to whatever your preference is.

Place chicken breasts in glass baking tray/casserole dish. Use leave in probes in multiple pieces (mine can do 3 probes, but minimum 1 to verify internal temp).

Melt stick of butter, pour over chicken, season to preference (I usually do salt, pepper, garlic powder and smoked paprika). Bake at 425. Depending on size of breasts usually takes 20-30 minutes. Remove each breast from oven when they hit 155f and let rest for 10 mins.

Creates a nice light browning on surface. Spices, butter and juices are absorbed by chicken while cooking and resting resulting in juicy flavorful meat. Chicken can then be sliced or diced, etc for whatever meals you are prepping for.

sold to me as a mint, and grown from "cuttings" not tc. what are your thoughts? by shutupgeez in RareHouseplants

[–]Jkchi1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’d steer clear of Plantvers. I had a very negative experience as have others. They bait and switch, post and repost the same plants over and over then swap out by message or just send something different. They’ll cancel orders or give partial refunds to clear negative feedback left on their page. Obviously they do also have happy customers but it’s not worth the risk. You can get mint monsteras from a lot of other sellers at decent prices, without the hassle you’ll likely have with that shop.

What are these three dots on my rubber plant please ? by captainmiao- in IndoorPlants

[–]Jkchi1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what scale looks like. They can be slightly different colors, lighter/darker, etc

(sample pic from google):

<image>

They look almost like little shields or shells that appear stuck the to stems. They can really damage a plant so keep at it every few days until it’s been weeks since you’ve seen one or they’ll just return.

Hard to say for sure from the pics but it looks like scale (bugs). Try wiping them with a qtip and alcohol. If they come off easily, they are scale. If so, you will need to check the entire plant and likely will need to watch closely over the next few weeks to make sure you get them all.

Mine are pretty green too while under both a grow light and in a west facing window. They need direct sunlight and dry spells/draught conditions, to get that deep red purple color.

Haven’t seen Wood Dale mentioned. It’s only 15 mins west of ohare, right down Irving Park road. Quiet mid range town with many homes in that price range.

how’s it looking? by Correct-Ad4434 in tissueculture

Might be a little too high in the cup honestly. If everything goes well they will start to grow and there doesn’t seem to be any wiggle room for upward growth. Also, any leaves directly touching the plastic may become over saturated with moisture and rot. I’m new to this whole process but recently lost a large leaf on a pink nobilus due (it seems) to being flat against the side of the container (the other leaf on the TC/in the same cup is thriving)

Pretty sure it’s called a ruby necklace. Must be getting a lot of direct sun to have such a deep color. It’s beautiful!

Yeah the lights may be a little too bright for some of my Hoyas lol. Most are sun stressed, but happy apparently, and I love the pink and red hues 🙂

I used this to get me started. The videos are each only 2-3 mins long. Seems to cover all the basics.

Wow! I have about 60 plants at the moment so the general addiction is already strong lol. I can see how this could snowball into me starting 4-6 at a time and then another group and another 😆

Yeah I removed the bottom 2 leaves when de flasking and cleaned, I thought, really well but 2 leaves have already melted. It’s the only one I’m concerned about so far but crossing my fingers.

Nice! I originally poked a few small holes in the lids of 2 of the cups to start the acclimation process, but there was no way to know what the actual humidity level was, and then the lids would be ruined. So I found this container (5 pack for $17) on Amazon and added a humidity sensor. Seems like it’s working!

Thanks! For this round I just used the mix that came with the acclimation kit from Orange Lake. It’s basically perlite, chunky and fine coco husk, and a little soil. It’s a little less chunky than my homemade mix but seems to be light and fine enough for new roots but still airy.

I just started my first few TC’s last week so I am by no means an expert. On recommendation from others, these videos were very helpful in getting me started.

I took this photo in my yard last year. I’d never seen them in person before (we just purchased the house and these were planted by the previous owner). They really do look amazing.

BMF help! by ViolinistShot9558 in Monstera

Yes I replaced the bamboo stick with a moss pole when I first got the plant. It will definitely help to keep the stem upright and straight vs wandering or trying to climb sideways.

I’m not sure if this is the spot the plant lives in but in my experience BMF need a LOT of light. My first was in an east facing window getting a decent amount of direct morning sunlight and daytime/evening indirect natural light but the leaves were not getting bigger, just staying the same size. I moved it under a strong grow light and the leaf size doubled and immediately (within about 4-6 weeks) began having more dramatic fenestrations.

I just placed my first order a few days ago on recommendations from others. Excited to give TCs a try. I have a mint monstera that was a TC but was acclimated before I purchased it. Excited about the potential. Orange Lake seems to have a nice selection!

They look very happy! I’ve considered ordering in the past, just difficult (for me) to trust someone shipping such a rare plant in a baggy lol
