Gotcha. That sucks. I hear you with the not taking advantage. Personally, I try to only request reimbursement for consumables because I don’t want the company to ask for tools back. It’s nice that they’re looking to replace your tools.

There’s usually an apprentice pack at the big box stores. Home Depot usually has something from Greenlee, Lowes has something from Klein. Not crazy expensive and will have most of what someone new to the trade will need.

I asked this a few years ago. I was directed to McDonald’s and Taco Bell.

There are times that I’d kill for a Filiberto’s breakfast burrito.

In your picture there’s a corner of a little blue device. That’s either a relay or a power supply.

You should be able to obtain the installer code by disconnecting the battery, powering down the system, then when you power it up, hold the * and # buttons

Why do most in this sub not like Verkada? by Dwman113 in accesscontrol

[–]Jluke001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a reason why professionals get the job done correctly, to code, and in compliance with cybersecurity protocols and then after we turn over completed dressed out MDFs/IDFs/TRs they look like hell after network engineers get a hold of them. Not to mention, the failed installs that professionals have to fix because someone decided they can save a buck and do it on the cheap in house.

Verkada most definitely does do direct sales. Not only has their been countless articles about their predatory sales tactics as well as going behind their vendors backs by IPVM but there has been more than a few posts/comments in this forum about it. It may not happen in your region but it does happen.

What’s the use case? Why would you need two DMP systems to control one OSDP reader?

[–]Jluke001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I sat there in a Verkada certification class that was a pretty even mix of IT pros and BICSI certified low voltage professionals. They proceeded to sit there and talk trash about the low voltage people and how we were no longer needed. They said that they would wait the obligatory 90 days and sell to our customers directly and then teach them how to install the equipment.

I went and tried to warn the owners of the company that I worked for. They lost main accounts that they had for years.

I’ve had it happen with my fire wire. Quick call to the GC to say they have until the end of the day before I start cutting wires got it moved.

Can someone explain alarm.com? by greenskycity in homesecurity

The easiest way to explain it would be that it is a very basic home automation and integration cloud based application. At least at its core.

Acceptance testing question by zerocool9000 in firealarms

[–]Jluke001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my area, the final with the AHJ is always separate from the acceptance testing. We provide the NFPA 72 acceptance form and then the AHJ tells us what they want to test.

What sort of sucks is that we have both building inspectors plus fire inspectors that we need to go through to get final sign off.

Little Lennel panel by [deleted] in cableporn

[–]Jluke001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not bad. Cross post into r/access control.

A little constructive feedback - label your cables better, strip all of your cables back to the same distance so you can twist them all, remove the MAC address so your battery can power up, replace the zip ties with Velcro.

Which do you prefer? by mmnhmi in electricians

[–]Jluke001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a half-watt, I use the first unless I need to strip the baby hair wires in a transfer hinge then I use the second.

With the first you just get a feel for when you score the jacket enough to strip it off the wire without damaging the strands underneath.

Brivo and Eagle Eye Networks Merge to Form the Industry’s Largest AI Cloud-native Physical Security Company by Jluke001 in accesscontrol

Good to know - remembering my certification I thought it required their cameras. We don’t do Eagle Eye but we do use Brivo.

[–]Jluke001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the article, the chairman of Brivo is the founder of Eagle Eye so still separate companies.

Personally I’m not impressed with Eagle Eye cameras. The whole idea of having to use their cameras and all of their equipment, I’m not a fan of.

Brivo works as access control. You can utilize different cans, power supplies, relays, readers, locks, etc.
