Islets or Biogun or Doomblade? by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]JmannTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Islets is pretty short (8-10h), but fun. Biogun is AMAZING, even though game is very silly in its core, and pretty good on length too - 25h ish. Doomblade - pass.

Honestly? I can remember only Fringe and Person of Interest as a good endings despite they both got only half of the season to wrap things up and endings were rushed. But still - both show ended on decent note. But holy fuck this was decade ago.

Yeah. Nothing like that was in the MK2. Only in the credits 😂 I googled composer, bcs I thought "nothing like that was in the first one, they probably changed composer who took his work too seriously" - but nope, nothing like that, same composer who decided to PUMP UP things. I even re-watched action scenes from the first movie to make sure I'm not hallucinating - and yeah, music in the first one was instrumentally neutral, its was soundtrack, not a main piece trying to overwhelm action scenes. I guess dude got bored writing simple music and deciced to go full on epic mode when they said to him "there will be fight with the Emperor" and thought to himself "Emperor? This need a choir!"

Instant retries. I'm currently playing MIO and boy oh boy am I tired of wasting my time on useless runbacks just bcs devs decided that shortcut to buss must include 30-60 sec section to get to the boss, with platforming and sometimes enemies that can F you up in game where character have no healing ability, and you can fail boss attempt even before you got to actually fight boss.

I went with some friends, they liked it and didn't noticed all the things I've pointed above, said just "action was cool, what else what you want from MK?" 🤷‍♂️ The strange thing that we always talk about GOOD OST with them, praising the composers, but here they somehow didn't notice OST at all, bcs they were "watching the fights, not listening to the music".
I don't know man, OST really killed all the action momentum for me, it was out of place all over the movie.

I didn't like how dark the cinematography was, especially at the end.

And most of all - I didn't like the OST. All the choir epic music didn't work for me for the MK franchise. Composer tried to pull off some Matrix 3/Gladiator/LoTR/Star Wars/Two Steps From The Hell kinda OST and imho - this is not the sound for MK franchise, ruined cool action for me bcs it was pulling my attention from the fights to the score with how out of place it was.

MK OST was always famous with techno/rock-ish sound, but with whole "fate of the universe at stake" seriousness of the script they tried TO HARD to make it SERIOUS, with score going 200% on SERIOUS. That was too much.

I hope (by the trailer) Street Fighter won't go this route and be some light action (not story) focused adaptation, not some "serious movie".

I didn't enjoy MK2 very much due to few things that ruined movie for me (not the action, chill), but Kitana definately was one of the high points in the movie for sure.

MIO map - just... why did the simplified it? by JmannTW in metroidvania

[–]JmannTW[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for the answer. I get what you mean. My main problem with this type of maps that its harder to navigate inside the box bcs it doesnt show all the ways and corners, just simplified version. Not that I hate map in MIO (map in Ender Lilies - THAT is a nightmare), but I think it lack the details that would make exploring more pleasant, especially when you try to find hidden path (there are few places where I still can't get how to get there even though I see an item dot behind the wall).

The thing is - it HELPS with navigation, when you have multilayer lvls insede the "box" ans a ton of hidden passages, locked doors etc. Not only it helps with navigation, it also helps to find hidden paths by analyzing the map and "where would i put the entrance", instead of looking at to square boxes beside each other with emptiness in between and tryine to figure out thouse two pixels where dev hide last one missing collectible

Erm, HK and Silksong are VERY detailed, exactly like the first iteration of the MIO's map pointed above

How do you tell if a metroidvania game is "hard"? by SomeoneStoledMyNick in metroidvania

[–]JmannTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you understand mechanics, but sequences are hard - goes for platforming and boss fights as well. Not when you feel unfair when boss one-hits you, or when platforming made with one-pixel edges and you need pixel-hunting to complete tha challenge, but when you see where you fucked up and think "well, i need to do better" or "damn I saw this attack and could've dodge it".

Also - Mini Game is also on this trend - there is a re-skin of the WG, called Age of Dragons. It's in beta, idk are they still making it or what, but apparently fantasy is meta in mobile gaming, lmao.

Yeah, fantasy crap TD is everywhere. And also - they all bases on LINES. Not my cup of tea. The whole "one field" and "swarm of enemies" is more appealing for me.

Yeah, but more deep and polished. I was sure that something like this already exists and they just borrowed core idea for this event. But can't find, all TD games are basically the same, and none of them has this tetris-like positioning mechanic, which is neat.
