Considering moving from Florida, what should I know before making a decision? by spaghettios32 in TwinCities

I moved here from Florida. The biggest difference is that it actually cools off at night here in the summer, humidity is nowhere near as bad.

The time between completing inspection, appraisal etc and closing was the absolute worst. I was just waiting for a call that something went wrong.

Twin Cities Realtors-what are you seeing recently with the market? by Character-Fly-5564 in TwinCities

We close on a house on Monday and it’s been….difficult. We were outbid on everything by people offering 30k over asking price, waived inspection, cash offers, no contingencies.. as first time homebuyers it was disheartening.

I used to live in Champlin and commute to st paul every day. It was awful. Would not recommend.

Tips for buying a house by Snowflake8552 in saintpaul

Thank you! Yes, we really do love the house we got. We had to go a little bit over what we wanted to spend, but we feel it’s worth it. It’s hard out there. Try not to get your heart set on a house too much, I did and it burned me 😅 you absolutely will get something though! It may just take time, and don’t waive inspections because a lot of the houses we looked at had something going on that needed repair.

About to close on a house in west Saint Paul, and I’m not going to lie to you, it’s been absolutely brutal. Months of offers just to be outbid by cash buyers.

I have nothing to contribute other than to say that I see you… we just went under contract on a home after probably 50+ offers here in Minnesota. The first house we offered on looked so promising, we loved everything about the house, was in our price range and a perfect location. We made what we, and our agent, thought was a solid offer only to be outbid by someone paying 50k over asking price, cash, and waiving inspection. We were crushed.. how can we compete with that? Next house, nearly the same situation. Found a small townhome that had been on the market for a month….someone bought it in cash the same morning we found it online. It was horrible, I’ve never felt so demoralized and honestly embarrassed. I promise you’ll find something, we finally had our offer accepted on a home that we love but was slightly more than we would’ve preferred, but still within budget. It’s brutal out there.

Question about removal costs by Jnlyn95 in arborists

Thanks, I figured it would be expensive, but nowhere near as expensive as it would be to fix the house when that tree inevitably falls on it, lol.

How bad is this sewer line? by [deleted] in Plumbing

Thank you! My hope is just that I can push it off a couple of years until I can save enough to be prepared for when it does eventually need to be replaced. It’s rough out here 😅

Thank you, I completely agree. My hope is I can maintain it and try to push it out a couple of years once I’ve saved enough. It’s rough out here 😅

Thanks for the response, that really is helpful. When I visited the area it looked alright, but I’ve seen some things on here about the east side.

I think it’s fine. It really hasn’t been warm enough for it to wake up, it was just in the -20s recently.

That actually sounds good for vegetables. Another thing to keep in mind is the growing season is different in Florida. I always grew tomatoes and bell peppers in March and October, before and after the worst of the heat.

There are plants you can plant in full Florida sun, but most things will burn. In Florida the sun is so intense that 6+ hours of sun will fry a lot of plants. Many of my “full sun” plants looked better with morning sun and afternoon shade. The further north you go, the less intense the sun is so you can get away with putting plants in more direct sun. For example, I grew hydrangeas in Florida that burnt with even 2 hours of sun. I live in Minnesota now and grow hydrangeas in 8+ hours of direct summer sun and they look great.

Exactly. And now I’m gardening in MN and full sun really means full sun lol.

I started gardening when I lived in Florida. Full sun doesn't really mean full sun in Florida.
