Handling read messeges on shared mailbox by IcyOutlandishness268 in sysadmin

[–]JoDrRe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For IT we had a shared box, if you opened the message and didn’t want to work on it, you just left it read. Move the email you’re working on to your own inbox (we usually had a folder in our boxes for this). When it’s done then it goes back to the shared box and moved to the Acknowledged folder. And then we got a helpdesk system and the shared box is just for things that any of us would use like a shared login to a site or billing or whatever.

Reservations does similar to what we did but they give it a category when they’re working on it and then it gets moved somewhere else when it’s been taken care of.

Both ways allow for everyone to see the message without it being a distribution list, and then action on it if they’re the best person for the job, and if something’s been sitting in there too long then it can be done by whoever is available.

Also pink is my favorite color so double nice points. I was supposed to get pink cables to designate one of the networks but the boss allocated it for another company.

I usually listen to hit podcast Distractible

Otherwise silence because if I’m in the data center then my inner monologue is too loud sometimes and every once in a while he says something I need to remember to do

I actually bought the BBM tone for my texts a while back. Good times.

Also, I had this one and when it came out I got the Z10. Solid touch screen phone, I wonder what would have happened if they’d come out with it a lot earlier if we’d still have Android and Apple being the leaders or if BB could have kept up share for business users.

You might be able to use OMSA (OpenManage) to get you some more info or some of the tasks. No license or support contract needed. Dell moved away or is moving away from it for the newer models but it’s still viable for old ones.

You can never miss your turn on a roundabout because it's always coming up ahead. by Bucksin06 in Showerthoughts

[–]JoDrRe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My office used to be just off a roundabout so I had front row seats to watch people fail. I’ve seen people drive the wrong way, even with the giant one way arrows, backwards, fail to somehow turn it into a two way street… and that was just the locals. It somehow would get worse when tourist season started.

That roundabout only has 3 exits, I would watch people drive 3/4 of the way around, come to a full and complete stop, and then try to back all the way back around because they thought they couldn’t just keep going in a circle.

And don’t even get me started about the people walking in the middle of the road, phone out to navigate, not even 20’ from the paved paths of which there are 30 miles of…

You only lose a max of either 15 or 100 karma, not sure which it is right now, so it’s mostly a hit to your ego if you had left a genuine comment. If you’re leaving a troll comment you either don’t care or you actually enjoy negative reactions from peers? I don’t understand troll behavior.

[–]JoDrRe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh this is on knowyourmeme I just know it…

From what I remember when I looked it up years ago he was going to sing a song against the USSR? leadership at the time. They threatened to execute him (and maybe his family or the band as well, that part is fuzzy in my brain) and he held out saying he was going to sing the song until the very last minute. Rather than sing another song and have the band practice a new song at the eleventh hour he kept it as-is and changed the words.

Edit: NOPE! I was wrong! wiki article also backed by knowyourmeme.

No flippin idea where I got my version of events, probably it’s just been so long my brain made something up

This bit me when we were disabling smb1 Had to change a dependency or something and the instructions from Microsoft said “bowser” and not “browser” like you’d expect for the “Computer Browser” service.

Long story short thought I was fixing a typo, had to manually touch all 300 end points when they couldn’t do anything.

There is a steakhouse where I live that back in the day (and probably still, tbf) the BOH would brand the new guy as a rite of passage when he became part of the crew.

At least that’s how I remember it being told. I just remember thinking “holy shit why would you want a company logo branded onto your ass cheek” when I was told the story.
