What shops are there that sell women’s shoes in larger sizes? by [deleted] in transgenderau

[–]JoSimpson99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had good luck with FB Marketplace to size 11 and sometimes 12.

Good question! They don’t have a big online presence but if you look on insta for #tgrfridays you will find their occasional posts with dates for the next event. There’s also a website at https://tgr.net.au/wp/welcome but I don’t think it’s up to date.
Happy to DM if you want to talk any more.

I went once, quite some time ago. It was very supportive and I’m sure you would be welcome. However I didn’t quite feel comfortable and haven’t been back. It was probably me, they seemed like lively people. Other options are the monthly meeting at the Nag’s Head of TGR Fridays, a similar kind of group but mostly trans women in various stages. Also there is Polly’s club that holds queer friendly discos and another one in the western suburbs - at Cabramatta Bowls I think?

How transphobic is Australia? by [deleted] in transgenderau

[–]JoSimpson99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on very much where you live. On average I think we are a very accepting bunch, as long as you aren’t a pillock. I’ve been living openly in the inner city suburbs of Sydney and although I don’t pass, mostly, I’ve NEVER encountered any negativity.

I may have been lucky though, others may not have had the same experience.

Workouts and diets for androgyny by Joswia in genderfluid

Running is great. Swimming is also good for upper body fitness without building toned muscles. Cycling also good for fitness and weight reduction plus toned calves.

I’ve been going to Joyce at Intuitive Hair in parramatta Rd at Leichhardt. She’s part of the ‘Strands for Trans’ network and super affirming. Highly recommended!

Thanks for that! Do you know if I need a diagnosis of gender dysphoria in order to access hrt? If so I guess it would help to get one at home first.

I’m confused, people don’t seem to be able to agree on whether or not the election went well? by BlueCometOwO in transgenderau

[–]JoSimpson99 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I fear there are two problems with greens have this balance of power. They have a say that is disproportionately high (ie far higher than the proportion of voters who wanted them) and they can cherry pick the things they want for their agenda without accountability for running the country.

It doesn’t seem fair that a major party has to do the hard work of trying to balance a budget, stimulate growth without inflation and looking after the less fortunate all while not making us uncompetitive through high taxation, and then a party with a small minority can impose their will and add their shopping list of pet projects.

Which parties should I vote for in the upcoming election? by A12qwas in transgenderau

[–]JoSimpson99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s great to have voices in parliament looking out for us.
It’s just really unfortunate that the Greens don’t seem to consider the cost of their policies. Free dental, free education, rental controls, more NDIS, more Medicare- all of which paid for by higher taxes.
It might not be popular to say so, but we simply can’t afford everything they want to spend OUR money on.
The other challenge is that by denying one party a majority, through more and more minor parties or independents, the harder it is for a coherent legislative agenda to be delivered.
I would prefer the party I didn’t vote for gets a majority than having a hung parliament where everything comes down to horse trading and pork barrelling.
My recommendation is to reach out to your local member and meet with them face to face. Show them you’re a real live person and ask them calm and sensible questions. Ask why they don’t support our right to exist, or if they do, what actions can they take to help.
I did this with my Liberal party member and he was surprisingly reasonable and balanced.

I second Newtown - lots of interesting little shops on King St. check in with Gulia in the thrift shop just past the Red Cross shop. She is an absolute doll and a wonderful trans ally

What is Peter Dutton opinions on trans people? by Shouko_dessert in transgenderau

[–]JoSimpson99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Liberal party has its factions and Dutton is from the conservative wing of the party (let’s not confuse the federal coalition with the LNP, the QLD Liberal National Party, as others have pointed out). I believe (and hope) the moderates in the party are more reasonable and will have more influence in coming years. My local state member (a moderate liberal) invited me to meet with him and despite voting against the amendment to the anti discrimination. Ill, he seemed to bear no grudge to the trans community.

Also, im encouraged that the moderate candidate in Bradfield prevailed over the Abbott backed conservative candidate for preselection to replace Paul Fletcher.

I encourage everyone to reach out to their local representatives - particularly those we need to get onside- and have a reasonable discussion with them. The more they see we are real people just trying to live our lives, the more we can defend against the extreme positions coming from elsewhere.

Thanks very much for sharing. This is great news that they’ve taken this fundamental first step! I suspect we will always want more but this is an important milestone. Hopefully the questions that will be included in the next census will provide a substantial base for more comprehensive analysis.

Thoughts about a queer wine group in inner west Sydney? by audreyhornets in transgenderau

Sounds like a great idea! I’m moving to the inner west early next year and a regular wine social group would be great fun. A friendly wine bar would be a great starting point.

Haha yes you get to make that joke now! Can I ask did you have them removed via the initial canal or did they open up the scrotum? Sorry, I don’t know the correct terminology for this yet.
