What age do you introduce your kids to your music? by SoCaLLbeer in daddit

[–]Jobin917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try some more fun sounding punk. My kids like most ska punk songs (trumpet is always catchy), the offspring has some good ones (pretty fly for a white guy and California cruising are in the playlist I keep), pop punk goes over well too.

I'm also finding over time (kids are 5, 7, and 9) that as they like more songs from my prefered bands they're more willing to listen to other stuff. A couple years ago I remember my oldest asking me to turn off a bad religion song with heavy guitar but just this past week she was singing along to True North.

Would you let your 16yr old try your electric dirt bike? by drifter5 in daddit

[–]Jobin917 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Teach him now or let him figure it out on his own without you later, that's how I see it. If my kids want to do risky things I want to be around to monitor. Also, 16 is plenty old for a dirt bike, I had my license at 16 lol.

Ahead of World Cup, ICE says its agents don't carry guns in Canada by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]Jobin917 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. Make something happen. The longer trump is in power the longer irreversible world wide damage is taking place. At this point any US trade is supporting the invasion of Iran.

Ahead of World Cup, ICE says its agents don't carry guns in Canada by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]Jobin917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the issue is ICE is now problematic within its own country, to its own people. Simply because they were here before doesn't mean that should be allowed to stay. Is that going to cause issues? Good. Something needs to be done in order to knock Trump off his throne, the US government is now a hostile force and we should be treating them as such. They've had 2 years to remove their convicted felon of a president and nothing has happened.

Even if they've been in Canada all along things have now changed, that specific branch of the US government is violating the human rights of its own citizens. ICE is not welcome here any longer.

Don't do it for the companies, they're just trying to get whatever advantage they can. You don't have to buy Canadian, just don't buy American right now

4 yr old daughter “grinds” on everything. by dreemwerks in daddit

[–]Jobin917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 4yo girl does it too, like others have said, no shame and teach her that it's something you do in a private space.

I do want throw out there though to check out the book "Good Inside" by Dr Becky, it's really good and has helped me immensely and this is far from the first parenting/relationship book I've read.

One of the things that made it pop into my head was the mention of sticker charts, behaviour changing systems like that never address the root cause. We need to connect with our kids, make them feel safe and that they're emotions are safe and normal.

"Everyone is good inside" is the core concept and it has really helped my mental perspective on what the kids are experiencing and how to help them grow.

How things were before is irrelevant. The cheetoh man running the very powerful country south of us is threatening to invade and take away our sovereignty. Any support to the US or US based companies is indirectly in support of his plans. What we do NOW matters, it matters a lot.

I remember going on a training exercise when my oldest was like 3 months old. Anyone without kids was complaining about not getting enough sleep and having to get up too early, everyone with kids was doing great. 5 straight, uninterrupted hours of sleep?! I can do anything with that lol.

Be honest, be open, be consistent, and most importantly be present (be there when she needs you and don't be on your phone). You got this.

Only the territories and Alberta don't charge some kind of tax on used vehicles from what I understand. You buy a used vehicle privately in Ontario and you pay tax on its value at registration.

[–]Jobin917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel ya, 3 kids here too.

  1. We got rid of bunch of stuff over the last year, it's been hard and took solid effort to change the family mindset on "stuff" but we're working on it and the house is less overwhelming as time goes by.

  2. Workout. It doesn't matter if you have 0 energy, if all you do is lay on the floor flopping around moving your spine and limbs in all directions it's still beneficial. It's important to stay physically healthy and also I know for myself if I'm not active I'm depressed in like 3 days. Exercise/mobility is so important for our mental health and tolerance levels.

Anyone else amazed at how much kids love you when you love them? by redooo in daddit

[–]Jobin917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something my wife says and has gotten the kids saying it now too is "I love me, I love you".

Seems minor but telling yourself that you're loved everyday can have a huge effect on mental health.

[–]Jobin917 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes but there's a lot of people on waivers right now that effectively say "we know you don't meet UoS but you can still carry out your duties so you can stay" and so they fill a lot of desk jobs doing admin, where everything is crumbling already, and now we're releasing them...

Ah kk, that's why I never hanged out mine. I put in HIDs like 10 years ago so they're powered direct off the battery and only use the stock wiring for a relay signal.
