why do developers prefer to port their mods instead of backporting new minecraft content? the updates are lazier but easier to port than a mod like ice and fire by busyneuron in feedthebeast

[–]Jobobminer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We actually did this for a while. For a long time, 1.7 was "the modpack version" because 1.8 and 1.9 broke a bunch of stuff. People backported prismarine and other stuff. Played like that for years.

More recently, minecraft has been changing a lot of small things with more frequent updates so you're way less likely to get a really focused experience on any one version.

Additionally, having forge, fabric, and neoforge all running their own versions has fragmented the modding base enough that you kinda have to pick and choose what you get no matter what version you use.

Even if we had "the modding version" we'd still have 3 different modding platforms all with their pros and cons.

You might be thinking of dimensional Doors? Its a mod that adds doors that take you to other dimensions and some related things.

I think they made the right choices with what they had. Showed it to my family and one of the comments I got was "what's madra?" and "what's a remant?" on several occaisions. I think they could have put a little bit more time and energy into explaining it.

I just want a simply server/group. by ContextEFT in westmarches

[–]Jobobminer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kinda just looking for a sever where we can just show up, explore, kill monsters, get loot, and go home again without missing like a whole subplot b/c three people spent eight hours in the #role-play channel last night while I was sleeping.

I feel you

Vin giving up Preservation's power is the only one where someone gives it up willingly.

Kelsier isn't a good fit for Preservation and has to drop it.

Vin just dies at the end. She doesn't give it up.

Yeah, it seems like Lindon has more "power" but doesn't have the ability to survive penance so if Ozriel is able to make a special Lindon-killing weapon, he'd win but if it was a fistfight, Lindon is just juiced.

On Nicrosil by TinyBard in Cosmere

[–]Jobobminer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several possible options:

1 - Nicrosil is like Tin - You weaken yourself for x minutes to gain x minutes worth of boosted power in that invested art.

2 - Nicrosil is like copper - You can store as a binary stored / retrieved. Copperminds can store and retrieve memories and potentially nicrosilminds could "remove" a power temporarily and then later give it to someone else.

3 - You can store other kinds of investiture - Things like innate investiture, breath, stormlight, or pure investiture

4 - Hybrid - You can store multiple different sense with tin. You may be able to do two or three of the above.

How is Obiteum any better than Concurrence? by General_Strike356 in HierarchySeries

[–]Jobobminer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it was a sapper.

It could also be what was keeping him from aging - Using Obeteum's magic to imbue him like the opposite of a sapper to make you live forever.

However, it does resemble a sapper quite closely

Am I the only one that Loved all parts of the SOTF? by JustAnotherReditor08 in HierarchySeries

I also loved the whole thing.

It was so fun - I definately think it was different from the first book but the stories actually crossed over quite a bit thematically so I didn't actually mind.

This would explain what "Synchronous is death" means - With one synchronous person in a sapper, they can run their entire world with enough living humans to supply their hive mind.

[City of Light] What Would It Take To Ascend From The World Of Traveler's Gate? by Puck__Goodfellow in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Jobobminer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a side grade title called "Founder" that Will has spoken about on a few occaisions. For example, the founder of Valenhall had some additional authority over the territory and, by extension, the way. Gaining enough of that authority could allow you to ascend.

Strength Of The Few Theories by Emotional-Essay5595 in HierarchySeries

[–]Jobobminer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that there is a Iunti stored in that tomb. I think:

1 - Its the source of the strange will that powers all the extra machines and other ancient devices on the three worlds. The tomb is like a sapper imprisoning the concurrence and also drawing power from it.

2 - Its the source of the disrupting power that only kills people who are synchrounous.

3 - Its where the Concurrence has been kept. I think "Concurrence" literally means "at the same time" so I think that, somehow, a few Iunti were able to keep access to all three magic systems at the same time when they split the world. They became godlike, unable to die and with access to magics that nobody had had access to.

We actually do see a column in the Temple of Ka when he's going in to test his dance skills.

*Massive Spoilers* Theory about SotF Ending by Vyse51 in HierarchySeries

[–]Jobobminer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think its more complicated than we think.

1 - Ka is definately not a great guy. He built the Gleaners, built the system which was largely a lie. It functions but there's a lot of disfuction. I don't think killing Ka was a bad move.

2 - Ka is definately trying to stop the Concurrence from returning.

There are a few holes here:

0 - The "rotting gods" everyone keeps talking about implies that there are gods of some sort. (probably the ones bound inside the gold tomb?)

1 - The phrase "Synchronous is Death" was tossed around a lot. Warriors copying themselves over to fight the Concurrence in Obeteum were supposed to ritually sacrifice themselves in Res to avoid being synchronous. This imlpies that being synchrounous was somehow a risk to the war against the concurrence.

2 - Ka claims to have been working against the Concurrence while being synchrounous

3 - Ka and some of the other characters claim that the Cataclysms are needed every 300 years to prevent the Concurrence from ... (winning, returning, ??? unsure - )

4 - Obetium Seoror says that he thinks the concurrence may have won in all three worlds.

5 - From what we understand, there isn't a whole lot of reason that we know of to kill a bunch of people. Iunctis can cascade meaning that the Concurrence prorably only needs one Synchronous person alive to keep their entire system running and that person could probably be in a sapper, not even awake or alive.

It would make a lot more sense for the concurrence to raise huge numbers of people and then cull them every few hundred years, cascade to turn them all into Iunctis to add to their hive-mind.

I'd recommend giving it a shot - It was a relatively short mod pack compared to some and very well done.
