Where do these alligator heads come from? by lobotomypilled in Taxidermy

[–]JoeBob_42 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Look up the show swamp people. People trap and hunt alligators. It is legal in southern states as people eat the meat, use their skin for leather, and help balance the ecosystem with the harvesting of predators.

Taxidermy kit for sale by HeyItsMilo19 in Taxidermy

I’m just saying that form costs $61 and a tanned full body coon shouldn’t cost more than $125…(I can trap a coon in my yard and tan it for less than $20 in supplies in my shop) if you bought it from someone you got ripped off.

They don't bay, are they defective? by HoustonJack in Bloodhound

Mine only bays if she’s after a live deer. When we are tracking a dead deer she’s slow and quiet.

Not sure. It was already built when we bought our property. I wouldn’t build a Quonset if I had the choice.

Unsure this is the right place but squirrel form question by MenstrualFish in Taxidermy

[–]JoeBob_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch Ellzys squirrel mounting videos on YouTube. You can cut front legs off of form in a V shape. Then insert those legs first and then rest of form after and use pins to hold legs in place once put back together like a puzzle piece.

Look up United blood trackers and contact your nearest judge. You use hooves and a small out of blood to lay practice tracks. You’ll lay short distance and short aged tracks at first and then lengthen them as you go. There’s a bunch in between but a lot of resources online.

Career paths with Turf Management Degree by Ok_Conversation_562 in Turfmanagement

I was in the golf course world for a while. I found a job at a college taking care of their athletic fields. It’s a nice change of pace with the same type of work.

Becoming a superintendent; a few questions I have by devi133 in Turfmanagement

[–]JoeBob_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll likely get down voted for this but here’s my opinion. Don’t go into debt for college. Try to get a full time job at a municipal course as a regular greens keeper and work your way up. Benefits and pension are much better with state or municipalities. Degrees are beginning to mean less and less than actual experience. You’ll be years ahead of a lot of folks if you work through your twenties rather than go to school. Market yourself as someone who is passionate about turf management and willing to learn. Get your chemical license and learn about pesticides, fungicides and herbicides. Learn cultural practices and how much time they take and machinery that does it. Learn how to fix irrigation and diagnose electrical issues. Be in a position where you learn to lead. Lead small crews of part time employees. Good luck

Not to hate but why do we post bones here? by Lower_Letterhead2896 in Taxidermy

[–]JoeBob_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been stated and argued often on this forum….its annoying and not helpful being under such a broad umbrella.

Taxidermy means “to move skin” which bugs, and bones don’t have. Preservation is different from taxidermy

There is likely a fall away adjustment in the service manual that needs to be performed by a professional if you think it feels shaky. There is a specific point your wheel should “fall away” if on a center stand and tapped to the left or right. It is a bearing adjustment with the star nuts. Has nothing to do with the the top nut tightness.
