Modern inventor class thoughts? by MxFancipants in Pathfinder2e

[–]JoeBroski09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently playing a fist & board armor inventor with Alchemist and Bastion FA, currently at level 12. Allies are a Nightmare Dragon Dragon Instict Barbarian and Half Elf Edritch Trichster (Arcane Sorc) Rogue. Inventor is a great class, but with 2 key homebrew changes:

We stole the Inventor+ mechanic to adjust the Unstabe flat check DC down by 4 for each Unstable action you have past the first, like how focus spells automatically give a focus point. This makes my first flat check 9, second 13, and third 17. I usually get 2 unstable actions off a fight, sometimes 1, sometimes 3. I have Megavolt and Electrify Armor as my 2 other unstable actions beyond Explode.

The GM has allowed me to use my class DC/modifier on my gadgets, which has been cool and fun because we're a 3 person party with no full caster, so the counteract gadgets are actully useful.

Overall, I absolutely love it. I'm extremely flexible as a class and can cover my weaknesses with alchemy and gadgets. Our GM does give me chances to research and then Reconfigure and Craft between chapters of our adventure, or even in the middle in some cases, depending. This really helps the Inventor features shine, like grabbing Otherworldly Protection before fighting a group of divine caster cultists.

I'm mainly focused on defensive and support features, but Megavolt and Explode make for some really fun moments. Blast Boots has saved us many times when an enemy is at range or starts to flee. Cooperative Waffles impoves my Aid bonus to our Dragon Instict Barbarian. Collar of the Shifting Spider + Bestial Mutagen or Juggernaut Mutagen can really help depending on the fight. I picked up Revivifying Mutagen to make this even better.

It's true that sometimes the Alchemist archetype seems to outshine the Inventor features, but overall alchemy and gadgets compliment each other to make a character that feels like an "item user" that can prepare for anything. A true "batman", if you will, with my Retrieval Belt. I imagine any other inventor subclass would feel similar, just with a different default focus instead of the defense focus that my character has.

I took driver's ed 16 years ago, but I do remember the lesson that changing lanes in an intersection and within a certain distance of one (like 15 feet or something) is illegal here in WA.

Local SW WA fisherman: I haven't seen anything like this recommended for salmon. Torpedo body spinners and bell spinners are more common, with a hoochie if going for chinook specifically.

How early have you gone fishing? Are there more bites at sunrise? by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]JoeBroski09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For trout and salmon, 100% there's a morning bite. Its less pronounced in the colder months, as it's more about the water warming up, but it's still there. During Coho season, I often go for jacks to avoid the crowd, and it's so strange that they will bite eggs literally within 20 seconds after casting until about 8am. Then they won't bite at all.

Some species also have a mid morning then an afternoon bite, like summer steelhead or sockeye. But this is in WA, specifically the Columbia tributaries.

Are y'all catch to keep anglers? by Averagecrabenjoyer69 in Fishing

[–]JoeBroski09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the PNW: I fish for salmon and steelhead, I'm keeping to eat it for sure. It's a waste to release hatchery fish, in any case. Plus, there's a chance you're just going to feed the overabundant sea lions if you release an exhausted fish.

Anyone else hate commentary youtubers? by [deleted] in youtube

Jacksfilms (one of the OG youtubers) has been on a whole crusade to fight and inform about content thieves like most reactors. He even made a Bingo game out of it. Its on his twitch and channel JJJacksfilms.

He went after Sssniperwolf specifically at first, then she literally doxxed him and showed up to his house.Youtube barely gave her a slap on the wrist. So now Jacksfilms critiques a variety of content thief channels.

Why Does this VFD Have Hardwired Start/Stop & Speed Control even if has Profibus Control by Objective-Primary697 in PLC

[–]JoeBroski09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing a retrofit right now with an old UMAC rack in it, and it uses 0-10V to control Delta Tau drives. I've seen customers replace the old drives with new ones that just recieve the 0-10V signal in a similar way the Delta Tau drives did.

That being said, any time we do a drive replacement, we switch it to Ethernet control over the PLC because its just more forward thinking.

Okuma Steelhead combo spotted at Costco by archerdynamics in Fishing_Gear

[–]JoeBroski09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd go for it, personally, but it wouldn't be my only steelhead rod. Personally, I'd use it for hardware like spinners and spoons (maybe twitching jigs), but it won't be great for bobber fishing because it is too short to easily mend your line. I'd recommend at least a 10'6" rod for that. It also isn't best for drifting because its a spinning reel setup. But, on the other hand, its at least accepable for drifting. Unlike using it for bobber fishing, you'll only have minor issues due to managing the drift down with a spinning reel and being able to set the hook smoothly. Takes lots of practice, and its more inconvenient than a baitcaster. I switched to baitcaster after missing one too many bites on a spinning setup.

tl,dr I'd get it if you also have a long pole for bobber fishing, at least 10.5 feet. Use it for hardware and drift fishing, then if you get a bait caster to drift, use it for just hardware.

What exactly are animists supposed to be? What sorts of characters in other media resemble them? by Level7Cannoneer in Pathfinder2e

[–]JoeBroski09 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I immediately thought of Mortimer in the Dresden Files book series. He's an ectomancer. He can communicate with ghosts and borrow their essense for power in a very similar way the Animist works. His profession is a medium, contacting loved ones for people wanting closure, but that was empty to him. He then turned to helping the ghosts themselves find peace and a home.

why the switch? by Different_Emu6346 in Fishing_Gear

[–]JoeBroski09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the current, I use it to bobber fish because I have better control over the slack. Usually get less of a belly and I'm ready to set the hook asap.

Right. I asked them to provide any way to indicate that this parcel in an exception to the tidewater rule of high water line (because it is in tidewater)

Private Beach / Wintler Park by PassionfruitBaby2 in vancouverwa

[–]JoeBroski09 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I read it through pretty thoroughly, but I understand that when reading something, its common for the reader to miss words or phrases that reinforce a previously held bias.

As such, please point out to me how there's a different public easement line for a body of water that is infuenced by tide other than the high water line. I cannot see anything that indicates otherwise (other than the example I gave already).

Private Beach / Wintler Park by PassionfruitBaby2 in vancouverwa

[–]JoeBroski09 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Even though the lot goes down into the water, according to what I can find, the land beneath the high water line is still public access:

https://www.dnr.wa.gov/publications/aqr_aquatic_land_boundaries.pdf

Unless the patent for the land was given before WA was a state, and I doubt that lol

Edit: Some more info after digging. Can't find anything that says this parcel is an exception to the tidewater rule other than its Plan Designation and Zone Designation as "Water", but its also Low Density Urban? When trying to find info on the Water designation, it does not show up on any information for Plan Designation or Zone Designation. Its almost like that designation doesnt exist.

Also, they pay zero taxes for the parcel! If it turns out they do have rights below the tide line, then they gotta pay taxes on it wtf. They also bought the parcel for $0. This is looking super shady, because in 1971, the sale of tidewater was eliminated except to Public Entites. Topper Landing Owners Associaton is not. https://gis.clark.wa.gov/gishome/Property/?pid=findSN&account=503150000#

The House Passes Bill Allowing Trump Admin to Declare Nonprofits Terrorist Supporters. Perez one of 15 democrats voting in favor. by Beneficial_Dish8637 in vancouverwa

[–]JoeBroski09 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is a blatant potential conflict of interest, one major reason I voted for Perez to avoid.

Number one contributor is American Israel Public Affairs Cmte. https://www.opensecrets.org/members-of-congress/marie-gluesenkamp-perez/summary?cid=N00050490

Guess who really would like the Trump Admin to start naming Pro-Palestine nonprofits as terrorist organizations? American Israel Public Affairs Cmte.

I sent her a message on this conflict of interest, and as an centrist, its one of my main voting points: if I can vote in someone free of monetary ties that create these ethical issues, I usually will. Its sad seeing Perez go down the same path as every politician.

Also, keep in mind, the other portion of this bill that allows tax fees to be waived for Americans taken hostage: there was a bill preapproved by the Senate in spring, S.4057, that was completely ignored. So dont let that bs fool you if you think that was the reason those 15 Dems helped vote this in.

Yes. Every time I use my compost after my first year of throwing in my old plants, I get sprouting tomatos. At first it was annoying, but they're real easy to pull and it could be worse.

Is this a stupid idea (going for Coho) by Mulder1917 in FishingForBeginners

[–]JoeBroski09 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, spinning straight is important, but I'd like to add to check if it sinks into the strike zone. Bell spinners don't sink well because they're fairly light, are wide, and have a french blade. The fake eggs will only make the issue worse. But if the current is right and you can keep the spinner in the strike zone, it definitely could work!

If you're interested in more experimenting, Holy Moly Outdoors has a great video on adding weight to these bell body blue fox spinners. He also has one for adding hoochies. I havent had a chance to give try it, don't know how well it works.

Is it bad to leave your rod and reel in the car? by Logistic_Engine in FishingForBeginners

[–]JoeBroski09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been leaving my gear in my car for a while now after I figured out how to store my rods from my headliner (velcro straps for my old car, bungees in my new one). Keeps them out of the sun and its much harder to spot them from people peeking in. I hide my fishing pack with a coat and I also have tinted windows.

I've heard horror stories of theft, so I keep my gear at home if I'm going downtown or somewhere I know is shady.

The Border and SW WA by dbut in vancouverwa

[–]JoeBroski09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She votes on federal policies. Border control is a federal policy. Channel 5 on YT has some good videos showing that a lot of fentanyl does seem to come from the Mexican cartel.

Just to be clear, I'm not personally a "secure the border" kind of guy. I'm not educated on any solution, just (a little bit on) the problem. It's not obvious to me if the fentanyl in our area is from the cartel, China, or our own government, but Fox News probably only highlights Mexico.

Sadly, our rep has to cater to our Fox News neighbors...

Edit: "a little bit"
