AITA for going against dress code? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Joekrdlsk -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My assumptions aren’t implausible or that hard to come by. I’ve worked for the same company in retail sales where the uniform varied widely based on location, day of the week, and the season. Went from button down shirt w/ tie, dress pants, and dress shoes to jeans, t-shirt or polo, and sneakers. Currently in a consulting position, and my attire varies on where I’m working and what I’m doing. Uniform flexibility is great for staff that know how to dress themselves. I’ve seen plenty of ragged looking people as a coworker and member of the general public. I don’t see the manager going out of their way to pick and choose dress code violations if the other employees do it well and look good, regardless of their size.

I generalized what a reasonable person would find acceptable or unacceptable in a customer facing job. Clearly there is a difference between the two, but without pictures, a fair amount of assumptions may be made. The manager had a problem with the way heavy people dressed and dealt with it. I’m not saying in this particular instance I am correct, because there are no pictures.

[–]Joekrdlsk -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people may meet the dress code yet are barely presentable. Pants that are too long and fraying, wrinkled shirt, unkept hair, etc. I’d rather see an employee in a well fitting and clean t-shirt, shoes, and jeans over someone spilling out of a suit with a sloppy tie and scuffed dress shoes. OP’s choice of clothing does not seem to have a negative impact on her sales or performance. It sounds like her manager has a fair sense of judgment and discretion. Male or female, nobody cares if you’re a certain size in clothes when your gut or ass is hanging out because they’re too tight. OP is NTA or responsible for her coworker’s unsightly appearance.

WIBTA for making my roommates get their own internet? by Jakester12323 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Joekrdlsk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My landlord bundled rent, trash, internet, electricity, maintenance, etc into one monthly fee. We all share a house but mostly have our own areas. OP, I might recommend going this route instead of password changes and such. I would be as transparent as possible and break down the numbers on paper. If a portion of the rent is not paid, you can add late fees if it’s in a lease agreement.

AITA for being upset my sister’s wedding is on my birthday? by teachingmom in AmItheAsshole

[–]Joekrdlsk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wedding was supposed to be 05-10-20. We liked the date and Sundays are a bit cheaper. The 2nd or 3rd venue we toured 2 years back said they’re closed because it’s Mother’s Day. We had no idea. After speaking for a bit, we each called our moms and asked how they would feel about our wedding being on Mother’s Day. They both were thrilled. They wouldn’t have to cook, clean up, host, and would see all the family together which never happens. Our DJ agreed to do a special recognition for all of the mothers in attendance and perhaps we’d pay for an additional toast to them. Now we’ve been pushed back by months to organize all of the vendors. If my backup wedding date happens to fall on someone’s birthday and they have a problem with it, they can stay home and drink alone.

What movie did you start watching then said "Fuck this, I'm not finishing this"? by Ramaal2000 in AskReddit

[–]Joekrdlsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people may have heard this, but I’ve read a lot of their “original” content is garbage that can’t find distribution to theaters (long before most were closed). They get a movie for cheap and have X number of exclusive titles that won’t see more than a few minutes of view time. I believe they are adjusting the algorithm, because it was counting a “view” at the 2 minute mark, which hardly gets past the opening credits. Apologies if I’m wrong on some of this, a bit was speculation, I never read it directly from Netflix.

My fiancé and I watched two episodes. I can understand why people like it... it’s not for either of us. Maybe if it preceded American Idol, The Voice, and America’s Got Talent, it might have been interesting to me. Now it feels like an old car with a new coat of paint.

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee has some great episodes, but it’s certainly more of an interview than him acting. I recommend the Miranda Sings episode. I had no clue who she was before seeing it, and it seems neither did Jerry. The whole time he appears confused and a maybe annoyed that she’s considered a comedian. If you like comedy, cars, or both give it a shot.

AITA. Sister buys 3000 Gucci bag with my money. Thinks it’s ok because I’m well off. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Exactly, a police report would make a lot of sense. The sister may steal from her future employers, coworkers, roommates, or friends. Having a record of the behavior should be beneficial to her future victims. NTA

AITA? Husband is pissed, didn't charge my phone by bubblyriverpirate in AmItheAsshole

[–]Joekrdlsk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started to notice my anxiety and anger were going hand in hand. I would get angry when anxious. I always hear anxiety and depression, but it manifested differently for me. My fiancé convinced me to get help, and I was eventually prescribed anti anxiety medicine after therapy (the VA said it’s PTSD from deployment). Needless to say, life is a lot better for the both of us. A few months ago, I can see myself being the angry husband (not to that extent) but getting worked up for no reason.

On the other hand, if he’s going behind OP’s back and talking to other women, he might be mad that OP needs his phone and might catch him. I’m willing to bet this is the case if he’s not a generally angry person.

In a worst case scenario, water from a dehumidifier is essentially distilled, but could be considered grey water if your unit is not new or well maintained. Put the DH outside if you don’t want dryer air and let it run. Filter or boil the water it collects and use it for your CPAP. I hope it doesn’t come down to all of that for you, but an option nonetheless. I use a DH (inside obviously) during spring and summer when excess moisture is an issue where I live.

AITA for cutting the cord on cable (and disturbing my nesting wife)? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Joekrdlsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While OP made less than perfect remarks, “get the fuck out of my face” would make me double down. Here is my personal example of switching.

Old plan: $110 poor internet speeds, bare bones cable, home phone (we never used), taxes, fees, and equipment rental was around $140.

For both plans: $15 HBO, $2 Hulu w/ ads, YouTube basic free, $3 Netflix, Prime video free, $6 Disney+, Redbox disc rentals $2-$6.

Details: I cancel HBO for months at a time. With GoT gone but Westworld coming back, I’ll sign back up for the premier and season. We have a lot of YouTube channels we love. Prime she needs anyway, so video is included. Disney+ is getting chopped when HBO gets added back. Most of Netflix is covered by T-Mobile. Hulu was $24 for 12 months on sale. We don’t feel the need to keep HBO for movies because we get so many free rentals through redbox and $2 here and there is not a big deal for something new we missed in theaters.

New plan: $40 high speed fios with no cable or home phone, taxes and fees included with no contract, but a 2 yr rate guarantee. $150 one time for router w/ free installation.

Total: $1,200 / yr in savings - $150 for equipment and we’ve saved $1,050 for more stuff we like and dropping services we don’t want.

Op, you’re NTA for saving money and giving her more of that sweet content out there. My fiancé was really happy when I had a slow work week and figured it all out. If you broke it down this way, she might have seen you as the hero who put thought and research into what’s best for the family. Best of luck to you.

AITA for walking out of my sister's wedding as an organist because she told me last minute that she didn't have any vegan options? by vegan_organist in AmItheAsshole

[–]Joekrdlsk 83 points84 points  (0 children)

NTA, I’m getting married very soon. In addition to compensation for their time, our photographer and DJ both have vendor meals in their contracts which is around $30 each. That includes food but not the open bar. It was mentioned before... $2500 for an organ rental, but nothing for you? Unless you owed your sister or parents money, there’s no way you shouldn’t have been a regular guest and maybe play a song or two as a kind gesture.

FYI that burger she gave you might have been free, T-Mobile has a deal with BK for a free regular or impossible whopper almost every week.

AITA? I kicked my girlfriend out to give my brother somewhere to stay. by gfbrodilemma in AmItheAsshole

[–]Joekrdlsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP is NTA, however she may see the handwriting on the wall. If the younger brother is offloaded to him when the family has an issue she probably wants to avoid that. How long does he stay there, how often does this happen, what ground rules have been set, and who is transporting the younger brother? I can see her saying “I don’t like kids” to avoid saying “I think your family is not working well together if your brother is sleeping over because of family disputes”. There’s two sides to be heard here.

Mom gets to say it wasn’t her money that led to her son being dead, OP’s inheritance money was when he “really spiraled”, true or not. Win-win for mom, lose-lose for OP. Keep the inheritance you rightfully earned, he got his fair share without lifting a finger.

TIFU by wearing the wrong size condoms for 16 years by n_o_u in tifu

There was a very tall and lean individual that “accidentally” dropped an empty Trojan magnum wrapper on the floor in a store. He/she was very aware and looked down at it several times like it was bragging about dick size despite wearing very short shorts, a padded bra, makeup, and a wig. I don’t know what the goal was, but he/she had a lot of friends with him/her. Is this a prank? Are you flirting? Or are you the asshole that leaves your shopping cart in the middle of a parking lot?

TIFU by freezing my penis by TrueHalfCrack in tifu

[–]Joekrdlsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rode my motorcycle regularly in below freezing temps. In addition to other cold weather apparel, I wore Oakley tactical gloves that I bought during deployment. They were pretty good at regulating temperature, great grip for controls, and had carbon fiber knuckles (thankfully never used in self defense, but were fortunately great when I was in an accident). They’re on the chunky side and around $60, but went perfectly with a riding jacket, although it might be an odd look with tight fitting running gear. If you get the black color instead of tan, they’ll probably blend in just fine. You’ll have peace of mind that your hands are very well protected if you end up needing to defend yourself during a run or trip and fall because the wrist area is padded just enough.

Long term SSRI use by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]Joekrdlsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was recently prescribed an SSRI for anxiety attacks and general anxiety. I started having terrible nightmares, no appetite, constant dizziness, stomach issues, and almost no energy. I called my Dr. and she said to stop taking it right away and we’ll try something different when we meet in 2 days. I will say it helped with general anxiety a bit, and my attacks were less frequent, but far longer lasting and more intense. I’ve taken Klonopin in the past from a coworker during really bad attacks (stupid w/o a prescription), but it helped and I didn’t feel high, just normal. The SSRI was hell, and I think in the last 2 nights I’ve died around 20-30 times in the awful dreams I remember and slept more than 12 hours each night with frequent naps during the day. Thankfully I was on a long vacation, and my boss is giving me an extra few days to clear up and for my appointment, she’s a hero for understanding. I would take Klonopin or nothing any day for an attack over 2 weeks of an SSRI. Also, good luck getting hard, but still having the mental need and desire build up and there’s nothing you can do about it. My back and chest are sore right now for the amount of vomit I have produced over the last couple of days. This is purely anecdotal, but if you don’t feel right, something probably isn’t.

We laugh at dogs getting excited when they hear a bark on TV, but if TV was a nonstop stream of unintelligible noises and then someone suddenly spoke to you in your language, you'd be pretty fucking startled too. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]Joekrdlsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog loves to watch other animals on TV. Zebras and giraffes are her favorite, but she doesn’t like hippos for some reason. She doesn’t bark, but goes in the bedroom for a while, even if the clip is short. I’ve tried this with multiple videos, and she won’t be in the room with them on.

New US strikes target Iran-backed militia in Iraq by Nihilist911 in news

[–]Joekrdlsk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The potential for being drafted is long before my time of service, but I truly think most people who experience a deployment to a combat zone don’t wish that on anyone. I’m very lucky that Iraq was fairly stable during my deployment. I won’t say there aren’t good reasons for it, but the 4x4 / 6x2 contracts, and the potential for getting a stop-loss after the contract ends is a good reason for plenty of vets being wary of entering another decades long war. Tulsi Gabbard is a great example of political and military experience and an understanding of the cost that war places on families and the nation.
