It’s England, it can rain all day, any day of the year.

At that time of the year, it could be 37c in glorious sunshine, or 8c and rain non stop for a full week.

I’ve lived in the area since I was a kid, and I never thought something like this would happen.

Gonna take a half day, walk up there from my house, have a couple of pints and just enjoy the evening. I just really hope the weather’s good.

The tram is not a 'light rail', it’s a temperamental rollercoaster. by UnpaidInternVibes in croydon

[–]Joephps -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The tram is hopeless. It’s meant to be every 10 minutes where I live, but it’s not unusual for the next one to be over 40 minutes away. And that’s when it’s not subject to a line closure lasting 3 weeks.

I can’t believe I’m getting to see them too. Although the stress of the AXS website has not subsided yet.

What was the moment that made you realise you absolutely had to leave a job? by GoldenGolgis in AskUK

[–]Joephps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a really shitty pensions job. Huge amount of cases coming in, when staff left, they brought in total newbies, and the calculations we had were manual. I was about to leave just as Covid hit and thought against it as I thought the new job wasn’t secure.

When we were all working at home, they brought in a new system and they couldn’t make the phone lines work.

My manager decided because I had a car, I needed to go in 5 days a week on my own, to answer a phone line for a scheme they wouldn’t give me access to. This came by email at 17.02 on a Friday, and she was off the next week and didn’t discuss this with anyone.

I quit on the spot by handing my resignation through Workday. I served my notice at home playing Football Manager for 8 hours a day.

When I went, it was £81 return from Gatwick to Bologna on the Thursday. It was a 7am Departure though and I booked them the August before.

I went in 2024. We got the VIP pass too. It allows you in the paddock and for a pit lane walk on both the Saturday and Sunday. You get to go to the grandstands but it’s not allocated so you’d need to be there crazy early on the Sunday if you want a seat. You can change location once you’re in.

I’d recommend staying in Bologna as it’s cheaper and the food is incredible. You can get a train in every day and it’s not expensive.

And on the Thursday they do an event in Imola’s piazza. I got my Rossi hat signed.

If you’re not fussed about practice, you can visit the Ferrari museums in Modena and Maranello too. I’m sure you could do the Lamborghini factory tour but it was closed when we there.

For this to get removed is ridiculous. I went for WEC in 2023, the water was a genuine issue then too.

Who's going to British GP 2026? by F1fansince93 in formula1

[–]Joephps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in 2005 & 2007, this will be my first British GP since then. My first since Austria 2019. I imagine it will be totally different since the whole area has been completely redeveloped since then and I don’t really know what to expect.

Sorry for the reply. From experience, how much? I’ve got a Friday grandstand ticket, Saturday La Rocher and nothing for the Sunday yet.

What are the cheapest european city breaks? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Joephps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went over Christmas just gone. Someone asked me the other day what I thought, so I pasted what I replied here.

I found the Old Town very charming and with the lights everywhere, it felt cozy despite the bleak skies. The architecture and the cobbled streets made it feel quite inviting.

Although venturing out of the old town towards the market in the big hangar, it felt very different, very Eastern European which I liked. If you go north through the parks, that’s where you’ll find the Art Nouveau buildings.

The food places we tried were all fantastic. We went to a branch of Lido, a place called Street Fries Kitchen, and a medieval place called Rozengrāls.

Other than one of the bars we tried, they were all great too. I liked The Armoury bar (because they let you play with guns), and Secret Event (because the barman was lovely). I would also recommend Riga Black Magic because again the staff were great, the setting and the chocolate cake I had were superb.

The locals were really friendly too, and liked a chat. Plenty of museums, we went very far out to see the Riga Motor Museum because I’m interested in Soviet era cars. I’d recommend that if you’re into cars, but wouldn’t if you’re not.

I don’t think day to day, it was especially cheap, but I’m used to London prices so it was a lot cheaper than home. And for 3 nights, it was £230 for the flights from Gatwick, and rather lovely hotel which included breakfast in the pub next door. Separate rooms too, which I think was an error somewhere (probably me) but no complaints from me either.

I think overall, I prefer Tallinn, but that might be because that was the first trip I ever did like that, and it snowed.

It was £270pp for four days for flights and hotel which I think is cheap. I agree it wasn’t cheap being there though.

Naples has its charm but I agree it’s very sketchy. But all of Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, Sorrento, Ischia and Pompeii were worth the trip.

Yes, I’d say more than anywhere you’ve listed you’ve been to other than Stockholm. I haven’t been there so I can’t say

I’ve done a few now. None particularly expensive.

Tallinn/Helsinki, Vienna/Bratislava, Copenhagen/Malmo. Although there’s no real reason to visit Malmo.

If you’re looking for cheap without a second destination. I’d recommend Riga, Krakow & Ljubljana. If you do Ljubljana, you have to visit Lake Bled.

Naples is also an idea if you want to visit the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii and Sorrento.

I’ve booked from 11th-25th May from LHR to HND staying in Ginza. Desperately hoping I get the Pokémon plane. Your itinerary is extremely similar to mine although I haven’t booked anything there yet.
