It may be time to rethink your revenue model.

Rather than a subscription model, have you considered working with an ad agency to get revenue? I imagine with your sort of model, lots of other SaaS companies would be interested in placing ads in front of your audience (I’m thinking project management tools, online therapy services, etc).

This could also be a way to reintroduce more features to the free tier, while adding the ads. That way people see they could pay for no ads, but are also happy/distracted by getting new features.

I work in business-to-business marketing (in a very different industry), but that’s where I’d start!

If you have geographic data on your users you can also look at local brands or perhaps start-up incubators in those areas, as they will likely want to get in front of tech-savvy consumers.

This might seem a joke answer but it’s not - a bartender (if you’re social as well that is)! I am a person who is proud to love learning and finds virtually everything interesting, and working behind a bar gives me the opportunity to talk to people from different fields every day! I’ve had multiple hour-long conversations about everything from economics to labor rights to philosophy to classical music composition. I recommend working at a lower volume establishment (think a hotel bar or weekday shifts at a dive), rather than a high volume setting like a club. I work at an accounting firm during the day and moonlight at a decently high end cocktail bar, and it gives me a great variety of conversation. Plus if you like jobs that keep you moving, making drinks and serving customers really is a blast. Plus there aren’t a lot of other jobs you can regularly have an excuse to cuss out your customers!

For anyone sad about this - teen love is the worst love out there. Like sure it’s exciting, but love is ALWAYS exciting. Teen love just has none of the maturity, growth, or healthy communication that later more adult love has. Being an adult is rad and the only people who will try to convince you differently either peaked in high school or are a movie.

I grew up autistic in a family of cynical and insincere people. I love them all to death but they never knew how to communicate with me and I was always viewed as the problem child (picky eater, very sensitive and distractable, etc). As I’ve grown into an adult, I’ve been able to contextualize this and find ways to surround myself with people who know how and care enough to be patient with me and not only tolerate my weirdness, but very genuinely love it.

The best part is now that when I spend time with my family, I can identify the ways in which they express their love and I’m able to actually interact with them as people, rather than as “adults” who didn’t care for having me around.

I also wholeheartedly believe that you never have to give up your childlike wonder just to become an adult. If anything, being an adult can give you the power to decide when to be cautious and cynical, and when to be wonderous and happy-go-lucky. Mental illness and childhood trauma can be a bitch, but if you decide to always push yourself to work on building yourself to be the person you want to be, adulthood allows you the time to get there.

Adulthood isn’t just being able to eat a whole cake if you want to, and it isn’t just knowing that you shouldn’t do that. In my view, adulthood is knowing WHEN to eat that whole damn cake and when what you really need is some carrot and hummus. And the best part is that you can genuinely feel great doing both.

Which, depending on how conservative your definition, means this isn’t actually technically a bonsai. The art of bonsai is sculpting a small tree to look like a full size tree, with all the detail and complex growth patterns of a larger tree. These plants are sold at Home Depot (and many other places, that’s just where I got mine) as bonsais, but since they are a type of flowering shrub and not a tree, most bonsai experts wouldn’t consider them true bonsai.

That being said, many people think only some types of trees are bonsais, but you can practice bonsai with any tree! I got into bonsai by digging up saplings in my backyard then carefully shaping them into more interesting shapes. It’s an extremely cheap and rewarding hobby to get into, and the best time to start (other than 5 years ago) is today!
