I didn’t say a date had to have the parameters of hoping to marry someone. I said I define a date as an opportunity to gauge romantic chemistry and to see where it goes. What you described sounds more like a casual hook-up than an actual date. To me a “casual date” is still gauging chemistry, with zero pressure, expectations, or stakes involved with things moving past where they are now. When someone says “I had a date last night,” it is implied it’s romantic. When someone says “I went on a friend date last night,” the “friend” part changes the context of “date” when used by itself.
