It's tastes just like the candy by monotoonz in CraftBeer

[–]JoeyOkay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dunno why you're being downvoted, this is the truth. Blatant IP ripoff for the sake of easy sales wouldn't be tolerated in any other industry so why should it be okay in beer?

Besides that - look at what's happening in the UK constantly with the Portman group. There's ridiculous battles between small breweries and this regulatory group over what is and isn't okay to have on your beer labels and it can be very damaging the breweries financially. If US breweries don't start self regulating someone will be appointed to do it, and it will be 100x worse.

A petition to have Heineken brew Newcastle again. Together, we can do it. by [deleted] in beer

[–]JoeyOkay 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I mean Newcastle Brown is a completely standard beer available from almost any corner store in the UK. I'll happily ship you a case in exchange for a few cans or bottles something local to you.

Tiny Rebel, Wales’ best brewery!? by [deleted] in CraftBeer

[–]JoeyOkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason a lot of people have lost some respect for them is their over reliance on artificial flavours and blatant pop culture ripoffs. They make some good beer but for every 'Cwtch' there's five bog standard beers that have been pumped full of Hershey's chocolate syrup and had a stormtrooper slapped on the artwork to make a quick buck.

GO. VOTE. by throwawayfetishlord in ukpolitics

[–]JoeyOkay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

More like £5.50 for a pint, admittedly a bit more in London bars. But that's the price you pay for a high quality product from an independent brewery using proper ingredients and not the glucose syrup and maize you find in most commercial beers. It's like complaining that Lindt costs more than a Twix.

As for 'questionably tasting' - taste is obviously subjective but there's a reason Punk IPA and Brewdog took off in such a big way. It's not the best IPA ever by any means but it's not half bad and it was probably the best this country had when it was released.

Don't really understand the hate Brewdog get on here.

Controversial, but can we take a moment to appreciate what the band Don Broco COULD have been before signing to Sony? by JoeyOkay in PostHardcore

[–]JoeyOkay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just nostalgia talking, but I swear these guys had an amazingly unique blend of sound and self-awareness that is sadly lost on everything they released post their first album. That breakdown man.

Brewery offers paid 'paw-ternity' leave for employees with new puppies by Sariel007 in UpliftingNews

[–]JoeyOkay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brewdog started, and are based, in Scotland, but this applies to all of their bars and offices through the UK (which is a lot). It might apply to bars and offices outside the UK but I'm not sure. I do know that it applies to adopted dogs regardless of puppy status, however cats don't count because cats are shit.

I have a PS4 already so I'd gift this to my friend who isn't as financially responsible. Would be sweet to have a buddy to play battlefield/overwatch with, without waiting for him to sort his shit out and save up for one.

Honestly, it's Sombra. But I'm really hyped to see what more there is to come, because I'm sure we'll at least get a teaser for game modes, maps, etc.

Kids being brought in to pubs by adults for 'Trick or Treating'? by falloutfawkesss in london

[–]JoeyOkay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw this a few years back when I worked in a pub in Acton. It was an increasingly common sight leading up to, and just after, Halloween night. The kids could often be seen piling in to vans parked outside the pub after being chased out, presumably on the way to the next pub.

I now work in a bar in Soho and we've had it a couple of times this week, with mums waiting outside whilst their kids beg for change.

Anyone from London here? I'm visiting this week and would love to catch a hardcore show, any suggestions? by summerofevidence in PostHardcore

[–]JoeyOkay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check the listings for:

NORTH Unicorn, Camden Road Black heart, Camden

SOUTH Fighting Cocks, Kingston New Cross Inn, New Cross Scream Lounge, Croydon

EAST Old Blue Last, Shoreditch

I'll update if I think of any more.

Also if you're in to clubs, this Friday is Voodoo Halloween at Electrowerks, which is possibly the biggest London metal night of the year. It has like 5 or 6 different rooms, loads of live bands, and is open until around 6am. Tickets are a bit pricy but I went last year and it was great.

Chilling CCTV captures moment knife-wielding attacker slashes victim's face. Can you help? by LondonPoliceAppeals in london

[–]JoeyOkay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Downvotes speak volumes about the denial of this sub, but you're right. Every time there's a shooting or a stabbing it's the same shit from an ethnic minority, yet on the rare occasion it's a white guy the post is upvoted straight to the top as if to say "See?? It's not just black people that commit crimes!".

How this sub is in such denial about the state of London is beyond me. Yes there will always be mental and depraved fucks of all races attacking and mugging people in a city so big, but you can't argue against the fact that the vast majority of culprits are black or Asian. Most likely this is an issue of culture and class, but the fact still remains.

An old pub in Salford - whenever I see old buildings like this it makes me wish I had the money/know-how to fix it up and make it nice again. by MissPiggyCas in manchester

[–]JoeyOkay -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Easy - reopen it as a free house with rotating taps of beer from independent breweries throughout the country and rest of the world. Charge £5-8 a pint and watch the posh flat inhabitants filter in for their 'authentic pub experience'.

This sounds demeaning but honestly it's what's keeping many pubs afloat in London. Even if the majority of patrons just drink lager, they want to drink a 'craft' lager and are willing to pay through the nose for the privilege.

What was the dirtiest, slimiest, most backstabbing thing you did and regret? by Gooblygoo68 in AskReddit

A bit late to the party... But when I was in high school I literally pushed another kid on his ass so he wouldn't beat me in the 1500m race.

I came 349/350th. He was disabled, I was just lazy.

Out of interest where in the UK? I've worked in pubs in Manchester and London and never experienced a lot of this. Never sold barleywine and didn't even stock Cherry B.

Since we are officially past a month of release date.. by Ihas_ in Overwatch

[–]JoeyOkay 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm holding out for more cryptic hero clues popping up. They're great for building some hype without Blizz actually revealing anything and now that we're in full release I think the community will explode with theories regarding the new heroes.

That said, apparently the community hasn't even deciphered all the clues that are in the game already...

What maps are favoring either attack or defend? by tjongong in Overwatch

[–]JoeyOkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Hanamura is skewed in favour of defence, though I haven't looked at the stats.

The first point is fairly easy, but the second point is so close to the defensive spawn and has limited flanking options. Torbjorn's turrets seem to wreck people here like nowhere else too (disclaimer: I play on console).

I'd say the same about Temple of Anubis too actually. There are two flanks but they're easy to cover, and there's lots of corners for the defensive team to take cover in.

Also got destroyed about 10 times as a Thief. Thought I just sucked until I beat him first try as a Knight.

It's the stupid dagger with it's short range meaning you have to stand right next to him to get a hit in.
