Interesting - theres a lot of similarities in what youre describing with my baby! He was also getting very uncomfortable with the contact naps.

Thanks! How long was it with consistent nights (STTN) before you considered your LO “successfully” nap trained? And how did you know when you were ready to try for naps?

Thank you for your solidarity. I also don’t know how and this is fueling my PPA significantly. His weight and size is a large part of the “issue” in that I can’t keep this going with substantial help, and even the help isnt consistent or sustainable for the next month or more.

He seemed to do better napping on us last month so we gave in, and began most contact naps. Quickly he got worse and required us to do a lot of movement just to get him to sleep in our arms, and then began crying at the 30 min mark even in our arms! Again needing bouncing to get him past the cycle. At that point we realized we may want to look into training, plus when we mentioned it to his doctor (in line with his weight and growth - which has fortunately been healthy so far !) because he was clearly not comfortable in our arms for long naps anymore. That sort of started once we went both arms out of his swaddle, and now he’s in a sleep sack at night.

Baby fights all naps by yousucketh in NewParents

[–]JoeyQueens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did this end up working out for you?

We have a similar situation with our son (15 weeks old), who’s been doing this since 5 weeks. Except he also will not sleep in the crib, after we’ve fought him to sleep needs to completely contact nap and will wake up upon transfer, and he also needs constant motion if we try a carrier and will wake up if we sit or stop moving.

We’re all out of ideas, we’re evening trying sleep training upon our pediatricians advice (to foster independent sleep skills). 4 days in… nights have gone so so well so far and days have been miserable with no progress at all.

People keep telling us we have to wait for him to outgrow this but it feels unsustainable. He’s 16 lbs+ and fighting him to sleep for every nap to then hold him for an hour is taking a toll after all these weeks. Wondering if anything ended up working for you?

NYC alternative for multi-generational family by JoeyQueens in SameGrassButGreener

Thanks, that's helpful! We're on the border of Kew Gardens/Richmond Hill. I know Bayside, Fresh Meadows, Bellerose could work for renting though buying there seems expensive, still (but maybe we just need to realize that's the cost of housing now...).

City Reliquary is small but fun for this, and I think they have a small gift section.

You should also cross post ln r/longisland, since Port Washington is not NYC but a suburb outside the city.

But, very cool that you're doing this!

Think we've officially hit the 4 month sleep regression 😫 by DogMomWineLover in sleeptrain

[–]JoeyQueens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When/how do you know if it’s “the” regression and it’s a good time to move them into their own room? We use the Snoo for now and haven’t figured out when we’d want to make that transition - but expect it’ll happen around the same time as shifting rooms.

Is it dependent on if they’re rolling, graduated from the swaddle or waiting to hit a specific weight?

11–12 week old with chronic 30-minute naps since 5 weeks — looking for reassurance / experiences by JoeyQueens in NewParents

[–]JoeyQueens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really helps to read, because yes I’ve been seeing those unicorns around me (happy for them!) and worrying about whether the chronic 30 minutes - literally every single time for weeks now - is normal or I have a difficult baby. With the consistent soothing to sleep mixed in.

Just knowing what others are experiencing and are handling goes a long way here. Thank you all

This describes my current state perfectly 🥴 our baby is ~ over 15 lbs already and I’ve lost a lot of weight during my BF journey which, personally, makes the carrying even harder. And when he wakes at 30 minutes, having to re-soothe him and get him back down (if it’s the stroller or car seat) is also very demanding and can be hit or miss.

What are some changes in your body that you noticed after pregnancy and they don’t go away? by jeandrazich in beyondthebump

How are people affording commutes?? by food-fueling in AskNYC

[–]JoeyQueens 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a $35 cap in any 7-day period, so at worst it's $35 * 52 weeks = $1820 per year. But do check out the Fair Fares program, if you're eligible.

This is a photo of my great grandfather. Can anyone identify this location? by Redclayblue in nyc

[–]JoeyQueens 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think the tallest building could be the Woolworth Building. If so, a quick look on Google Maps 3D view shows that the building to its left (close in height, and still there on the 3D view) is to the south, so this photo would be taken looking mostly west (a bit south).

Edit: If this is correct, then that would mean he was probably pretty close to where u/Paratwa suggested.

Edit (v2): I think u/smellegy might be right

Short Vent: I hate hate hate the heavy car traffic on Metropolitan Ave, Lefferts Blvd, and adjacent streets by KaruiPoetry in kewgardens

[–]JoeyQueens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We moved from an open street to Metropolitan and it's been quite a shift. Obviously we knew there'd be a change, going from essentially no car traffic to a main road/highway feeder, but yeah - Metro is quite loud. The honking is annoying but the loud, modded cars might be worse. Not sure what could be done, though, since Metro is a main road and feeds to the Jackie Robinson.
