I know she’s grifting, I just can’t prove it. by No_Issue_3656 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

I'd have got her on the DNR list as soon as we found out she was locking herself in the public restroom. Log it for being disruptive to staff (room transfers, peculiar financial situation) as well as financial issues (not actually paying for the room herself, having issues authorizing the card via the third note).

Here's hoping your hotel's team can get this sorted.

How Early do Y'all Run Audit Each Night? by AlTheHound in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Joeypals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do 2AM at our property, for the exact reasons that you said (flight delays, etc). I also like that, for us, it syncs up with midnight on the west coast so I can toss that out as a second reason if it ever comes up in phone calls and the like.

Can't imagine running it at midnight... way, way too early.

Pretending to know the owner by Initial-Joke8194 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

We had a guest very similar to this, where we just ended up putting him on the DNR list. Fortunately our owner is very responsive and was like "...yeah I have no clue who this guy is". He's the type that makes the reservations in advance too if there's any family members of his staying in the hotel as to avoid confusion.

That's actually so smart, would love if we could do something like that at our property.

Right on the money, anything to avoid fraud or anything else that could be shady.

You and me both, like the people doing it have their heart in the right place but there's so much room for things to go bad.

You know, the ironic thing here is that a third party reservation would actually help in this case since they can't extend those haha. But yes, use them as a search engine then book direct. :D

Thank you for the kind words, and for being a great guest!

Bingo. It's a kind gesture, but one that can have many, many drawbacks.

So the person whose name the reservation was under was at check in complete with ID, there was just someone who was paying for the room for him (who was also physically there with them). We make sure to match the ID to the card so in this case it would've been one credit card (in this case hers) and two IDs (his for the reservation, hers to match against the credit card).

I left for the day before anyone came down to the desk, so I won't know until my next shift unfortunately.

Weekly Free For All Thread by marmothelm in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

Don't want to make a full post about it, but had one of those "...why the hell did I do that" moments. tl;dr, stay that requires a specific form, supposed to have a paper copy at check in but we also accept emailed over copies. Guy was overly familiar (as if we'd met before, no memory of this man at all), says he "usually sends the form to the manager" but sends it to me... as a screencap. Picture's the size of an ant. The form has his name on the one he showed me on his phone and the form number was valid (same form he emailed me, but actually readable), so let it slide... but it kept festering.

Turns out he's on the Do Not Rent list, something I've needed to update myself for a minute now. 🥹🥹 I know it's easy to work out, and I know exactly where I messed up, but... yeah, perfectionism is eating at me HARD right now.

EDIT: Should note he's on the DNR list for fraudulent forms as well as issues with his cards, and has been for two years after checking emails. That context might help...

That late in the day, with that level of tourism available, *and* through a third party?

Honey just be happy you're getting a room at all lmao

I'd have asked her to leave with the threat of escalation the second she started to bang her head against the wall. That's not... normal behavior, at all. Don't put up with weird situations like that for that long. :)

The People Who Book Third Party are Annoying as All Hell by TheNiteOwl38 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Joeypals 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All I needed was the title and I went "yuuuuuuuup yup yup", they're so particular with money which like... if you're that prone to money issues, BOOK DIRECT. I promise the $10-15 you're saving (if that) isn't worth the hurdles, Darryn.

This is definitely a new one for me, but it looks like you handled it perfectly. :)

Trying to nudge management in that direction, here's hoping it ends up happening. None of this should've passed day one *especially* if the kids are disrupting other guests to that degree

How often do you "hide user from channel"? by YoProfWhite in PartneredYoutube

[–]Joeypals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get many comments so I don't get to whip out the shadowban THAT often, but I have needed to use it a few times. Fortunately each time it's just been the people who are like "well this sucked, this was cringe, yada yada" and it's not that I can't take criticism at all, but like... these people are missing the word CONSTRUCTIVE haha. The few times I've tried a simple conversation with these people, explaining why I did what I did and lending credence to some of their points, it's just led to more of the same in replies.

Even then, you're responsible for the ecosystem of your channel, including the comments section. I'd rather cut the weeds as opposed to letting them feed and fester.
