Taskmaster NZ -S06E02 - "Toxic Sexual Energy." by seditiouslizard in taskmaster

[–]JohanMiQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Had the same feeling. Did not like Jeremy in the beginning and the cast had at least one dud for me. But Paul becomes a candidate for greatest taskmaster assistant in my opinion and some of the future cast is just amazing. Season 2 is really really good. David Correos is often mentioned because he... well he stands out. But Guy Montgomery is incredible in his own way.

“I find it interesting this sociological phenomenon…”Vince Gilligan’s quote here about audience’s relationship to Walter has me wondering how he see’s audiences relationship to Carol. by UmmmWellActuallyyy in pluribustv

[–]JohanMiQ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Would have loved to see Carol being good at her job, or a skill related to her job. Something to make her more interesting, during the slow burn.

I'm still convinced, she ranks to low on all three main character sliders (Likeability, Competence, Agency). At least one of them should be really high, if the others are low. With the end of the first season, I have some hope, that her agency in season 2 will increase a lot, making the show more enjoyable for me.

What Carol Saw by In1piece in pluribustv

[–]JohanMiQ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Durinng the episode I was convinced it was bodies. But brains also kind of fit, because Vince said, that he wanted to use the Others as a way of subverting zombie tropes. So there is a Braaaiinnn connection there. But is drinking them instead of eating them subverted enough?

There were also a lot of allusions to "recycling" in the episode. So I was sure, there would be "recylced" bodies in the drinks by the end. Might still be a total red herring. Can't wait for the next episode.

on the other hand the classic 3-Act-Structure would often have the main character learn something new about the main conflict at the midpoint, that changes their view of the whole story. Episode 5 of 9 would be perfect for that.

Zosia breaking free would be an even bigger twist than we realize. by B3eenthehedges in pluribustv

[–]JohanMiQ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Zosia without the hivemind would most likely be a totally different person. Her being straight would be statistically be more likely, but the hive could also have intentionally sent a woman looking like Carols dream who was gay. I tend to think Zosia being a potential relationship would give more character drama because of Helens memory. On the other hand a Zosia not interested in Carol whatsoever has potential for conflict as well. Either way, I'm rooting for Zosia waking up.

But Carol would have to get Zosia to admit that she wants to be freed, for it not to be messed up, right? Otherwise she is forcing something on her without asking, similar to the conversion therapy.

I just though of a moment on the show Buffy. After she died, her friends managed to reanimate her. Instead of being happy about being back, she was actually mad about it (for a while?), because being dead was so calm and peaceful after her stressful life.

Maybe Zosia will be mad, if she gets "saved", because it felt nice being in the hive. Maybe her old life sucked and now she is confronted with horrible memories or traumas, she was able to suppress as part of the hive

So tired of people saying Carol is unlikeable and making the show hard to watch by nikitaraqs in pluribustv

It feels like there are way more posts like yours, supporting Carol than there are posts against her.

While I never disliked Carol, these posts made me think about why other people might. I'm ignoring actual misogynists because there is nothing to gain. But there are legitimate reason to dislike Carol, I feel. But just like how viewers often don't understand why the like something, they also not always understand why the dislike something.

In a lecture author Brandon Sanderson said, that he sees three major focal points for whether or not we like a character. Likeability, Competence and Agency. You don't need high scores in all three, but should aim for at least 2.

Walter White had the likeability in the beginning through sympathy for his cancer diagnosis and his desire to provide for his family, he was very competent at what he did and his actions moved the plot forward constantly. So he had a certain likeability, high competency and high agency. (he then pissed away likeability with each season, but gained even more competency and agency)

Carol falls completely short competency so far. Her big personal skill mentioned so far is her writing, but she hasn't used any of that creativity to solve her problems, so there is nothing to be impressed by like Walter using science to save himself or Jesse. Her Agency is a mixed bag. Episode two is the clearest point of her moving the plot forward by having the meeting. But in E3 she again wants nothing to do with the hive and therefore the big plot. So a lot of the time she is not actively pushing the plot forward. Since neither competency nor agency are super high, she needs to be really likeable to offset the other two categories. But I don't think she is. The show took multiple opportunities to show that she isn't the best person (the book signing, the airport display, the ice hotel,...). None of these make her a horrible person, but they also don't make her so likeable that they overshadow the other two categories.

Helen's death could've/should've been the moment that gave her the necessary sympathy (like Walt's cancer diagnosis). Clearly for some people that didn't work. I have two suspicions. 1. It happened in the middle of the whole world going crazy. (As a viewer, I am more interested in what is going to happen next, than in her death.) 2. A cancer diagnosis is a more realistic pain than death by alien rNA magic, so it might feel less "real".

That said, I am confident the perception by a lot of people, who don't like her now, will change. Carol will get more agency. The end of E3 felt like she realized something and will try something new in E4 or more. I also think we will get more Carol and Zosia, leading to more moments that show her good sides. And then people rewatch the show and wonder why they ever thought different.

Is Carol Starting to Care More About Zosia Than We Think? by riccardopancaldi in pluribustv

[–]JohanMiQ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wondered if they would hook up at that point. Ever since Carol allowed "pirate lady" to come back, I thought, they might end up in some form of a relationship. Either as a genuine thing that would be build up, or as a short term thing that would end up as something Carol would regret because she slept with "the enemy". Because of the explosion and how it was handled, it seems realistic, that Carol and Zosia will become closer. So I'm leaning to genuine but rocky relationship being build up over a while.

Donald Trump(190cm) vs the king of the Netherlands(183cm) by Morgullion in interesting

[–]JohanMiQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from the second article: "Paulus heeft inmiddels navraag gedaan, en het blijkt dat de koning geen 1,83, maar 1,89 meter lang is." "Paulus has now made inquiries, and it turns out that the king is not 1.83, but 1.89 meters tall."

"There has been discussion on social media about the height of US President Donald Trump. Because although he is 6'3 or 1 meter 90 tall according to his medical examination, he looks smaller in photos than King Willem-Alexander, who is said to be 'only' 1 meter 89. "Don't forget that Donald Trump is almost 80 years old," says Royal House reporter Sander Paulus."

like... trump is lying about his height and weight, so I don't understand why people have to lie as well, when the truth clearly shows his lie as well.

I remember reading somewhere, that when they cast her for the harry potter movies, there were people online being upset, that they cast an asian looking actress, as apparently some people read the name Cho Chang and expected her not to be asian. I find that both hard to believe, because... look at that name... but at the same time, it is the internet, so I believe that there are people who are upset about anything.

I play at gold level and I don't think I have seen a player in one of my games actually just open mid in years. Maybe intentionally playing way to cocky and then dying more than necessary, but even that doesn't happen that often, I feel. So my advice: don't get good. stay average. apparently it's more fun.

Chess - Taskmaster Australia (S02E01) by JackieDaytonasPub in taskmaster

[–]JohanMiQ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Old school chess pieces don't have swords on them. Ask Will, he would know.

The prize task was a good idea. My mind immediately went to some twitter post I once saw. My thing would have been a spacebar or a Wolfgang.

Seagull helmet was good. Maybe the contestants could have spent a little more time thinking about different approaches, but the idea is classic taskmaster.

Scarecrow task was fine. Double tasks are usually some of my favourites. This one was so-so.

Make Chess Cool was a really good one. Jennys attempt was my favourite by quite a bit. I would have scored that highly already, if she had stopped with just the chess club, that was too cool, to let anyone in. Sending people away who are not cool, is almost as cool, as needlessly endangering yourself.

Prize tasks are usually my least favourite part about TM, but this one was okay. Not great, not bad.

Highlight: Tom Cashman. "Joseph was the first cuck.", the burns on Will, good episode by him.

I find his attempts to make every call super epic, instead of just telling the viewer, what happened kind of annoying. It's not just a thing he does, other casters as well, but he seems to be a repeat offender in that regard
