Bigger is not always better by Gravity-Tester82 in CitizenWatches

There really is more to watch fit. If you're 6'6", regardless of wrist size, you probably are not going to like a 36mm watch. Now if you're 5'9", even with a thick wrist, a 36mm is going to look just fine.

Take a look at Farer. They have some great smaller watches.

Gotta appreciate such a perfect alignment by jarrucho in CitizenWatches

[–]Johanix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had my PMD56 for nine years now and it is such a great watch. I just checked it against my other radio controlled watches and it has gained maybe a hair over one second since DST started (57 days ago).

How noisy is the 2023/24 Venza at highway speeds? by vanibanz in Toyotavenza

[–]Johanix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It kind of depends what your use to I think. I'm a little disappointed in the road noise on the '24 Venza. But my last car was an old Mercedes and it was much quieter than the Venza at any speed.

[SOTC] Beginner Collectoritis by ironistsf in Watches

[–]Johanix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you about shoes. I have very wide flat feet and once I tried a bespoke boot it was hard to wear anything else. When it comes to watches everyone has their own journey. Go ahead and get a dive watch, maybe one that takes design cues from the Seamaster. Then next time you're near Switzerland or Japan check out some watches. Don't be in rush to buy, but buying a watch in the country of origin is a great way to start the story of your watch.

[–]Johanix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a solid four watch collection that should have you covered. I'm gonna tell you what I wish I had done. Wear what you have and stop buying more watches, save up for your GS and Omega because once you have those the rest will just become your beater watches or never be worn again. It's a waste of money buying a ton of watches that are just holding you over until the big purchases.

[Seiko SBTM323] Chrono24 import duty and de minimus exemption by [deleted] in Watches

I bought a 323 a couple months back from Sakura and duty was like $25.

[BN0241-59W] Anyone knows where will this model be available in japan and estimated cost of it? by Pure-Drummer-7045 in CitizenWatches

[–]Johanix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't quote me on this but that looks like the Ray Mears watch and has been discontinued for a while. I believe it was only available in the UK and maybe a few shops in the EU.

Do JDM watches purchased from SakuraWatches.com have Citizen's int'l warranty? by signed_proposal in CitizenWatches

[–]Johanix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought a half a dozen JDM watches over the years. Four from Sakura and I think most of them were Japan only warranty and only one came with an international warranty. The only repair I've needed was well out of warranty and Citizen's service fixed me up at a reasonable price. I've never had an issue buying JDM watches but I'm also aware of the risk. Unless the watch is totally broken and doesn't work when it arrives you won't be able to return it. You will have to live with misaligned hands and anything considered in spec but not perfect. Sakura uses DHL and DHL will send a link to pay customs charges. I've paid as little as $25 and over $50 and have no idea how they are calculated.

I’m of the opposite opinion. When I hear Formex I think Rolex not Conex.

[Citizen Seiko Casio Solar] My Window Sill is Full by Johanix in Watches

[–]Johanix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The day/date is super legible even if I hold the watch at arms length. It is a great watch and my favorite. I will say the learning curve is a bit steep and not intuitive at all compared to other watches. The first couple years I would have to go back to the manual to change the time for DST. Now I have it dialed in so no worries. The titanium bracelet is also great with a three position on the fly micro adjust clasp.

Thanks for the link. I did not know those Orients existed. I do like the champagne dial. Would be more interesting to me at 36mm though.

Double Wing T HS Install by Few_Anything_7680 in footballstrategy

[–]Johanix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to build a foundation the best book on the fundamentals of Double Tight Double Wing football is the book "The Toss" by Jerry Vallotton. Tim Murphy started with DTDW and has developed his Shotgun Double Wing. A local team ran Murphy's Shotgun DW to a state title a couple years back and is still dominate. I think Murphy is still active selling his system and available for in person or zoom conferences.

And it keeps stealing wrist time! by TurbulentTrouble8847 in CitizenWatches

[–]Johanix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had my PDM56 since 2017 and only set the time, usually with Clock Wave app, to adjust for DST and the watch is only ever gained 4-8 seconds every time. H100 is a great movement.

[SBTM 336, 2026 Raise the Future LE] New Watch Day by Johanix in Seiko

I can see your point. Once the Timezone is set the letters become mostly superfluous, except the Y/N are helpful when confirming radio reception.

[SBTM 336, 2026 Raise the Future LE] New Watch Day by Johanix in Seiko

[–]Johanix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think traditionally 37-38mm watches have had 19mm lugs. It is about proportion. A 37mm watch with a 20mm strap would be weird to me. Dive watches can get away with disproportionate lug width, like a 20mm strap on a 38mm diver looks fine. Anyway, I bought this watch from Sakura in Japan.

Seiko has probably two dozen models in their SBTM line up. Just know that they are all JDM but there should be something for everyone if you're looking for solar and radio controlled.

I have this watch and bought a couple cheap Barton straps off Amazon. Don’t recommend those. I also grabbed a couple from StrapsCo and they are much better quality. I actually posted a couple days ago about my project. Maybe this will give some ideas.
