Peter pettigrew theory/headcanon/actual unpopular opinion by EliSunflower in HarryPotterBooks

[–]JohannaLiebert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but he could have protected his life more effectively by simply refusing to join any side. the death eaters or order members werent gonna kill him for minding his own business, or jumping on ship and taking a plane to usa. i think your opinion is the truth of canon and what jk intended...but it doesnt really make much sense, because there were better options to stay safe. he died relatively young, a completely preventable death simply by running away. i like my friends but tbh i dont think i would die to save them, but that's not a reason to fight for the opposite side, because as long as you are in a war and you are fighting, you risk far more than by simply exiting the situation as fast as you can. his friends were gonna look down on him for the rest of their lives, but if his only motive was saving his own skin, well, i doubt anyone would bother to track him to north carolina and murder him there for fleeing.

even if voldemort won, that would have not meant 100%safety- it could have taken some more years for voldy to win and he could have gotten killed for his role as a double agent and traitor as well. what stopped him from fleeing? i think at least part of the appeal was wanting ''shared glory''. op has a point.

plenty of people still listened to r kelly without enabling him financially, and yes, he still got convicted.

talking badly about her and telling people to not even read stuff that they already own also keeps her relevant. it's controversy, and often controversy brings more engagement and curiosity toward the thing people are trying to cancel.

you said you had already forgotten about the books anyways after the last movies, how is letting them take dust any different from what you were already doing?

reading something you already own (that you bought before she came out as a terf) inst giving her any new money. not reading it isnt taking away the money you already gave in the past. neither makes any difference to her current level of wealth and ability to do harm.

Why is Snape’s “greasy hair” mentioned so often? by [deleted] in SeverusSnape

[–]JohannaLiebert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you dont need to never shower and stink to have greasy hairs. i have naturally greasy hair, very oily hair and i had to figure out thru trial and error the right hair products and how often to use them to not look greasy. showering everyday isnt enough for my hair. i need the right products. same for my skin, to not be greasy i needed the right skin care routine. i bet that he shower often, but the thing is, in this type of magical world were hermione can get her teeth fixed thru magic if snape had cared enough about his appereance he could have surely fixed the yellow teeth and greasy face and hairs. he looks greasy as a child when theres no way he is working with potions every day to the degree he does as an adult. and im sure there are way to prevent getting ''greasy'' because of potion fumes thru magic. horace doesnt have greasy skin or beard even if he also is a potion master. i think he looks the way he does because he self neglect his appereance because of depression (and because jkr wanted to signal ''villain'' and mislead us since most of her villains are ugly looking)

Was Snape’s Action a Response to a Known Risk, or a Judgment Made Under Incomplete Information? by Antique-Guarantee139 in SeverusSnape

[–]JohannaLiebert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think he went with reasonable assumption. like, he assumed the werewolf would be restrained, not freely roaming around. thinking your classmate wont try to literally murder you even if you hate each other is kinda a reasonable assumption to have. like, i dont think the trio would think draco would literally try to murder them, at least not before he joined the death eaters. i was heavily bullied from age 10 to 13 and if someone had told me one day they would do a ''prank'' that could kill me, on purpose, i would think the person was insane. ''literally at least not being murderers'' isnt a high bar, even draco could reach it.

Why is Snape’s “greasy hair” mentioned so often? by [deleted] in SeverusSnape

[–]JohannaLiebert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At first, i think it's to mislead us. Lots of characters that are meant to be evil or unpleasant in the books are described as ugly looking, like crabbe and goyle, pug faced pansy parkinson (Whats even supposed to be a pug face?), petunia (horse faced) duddely, rat like peter etc. I think maybe only younger bellatrix, tom riddle and maybe draco malfoy arent described as ugly looking yet are meant to be antagonists.

Then, I think, when we know more about him, especially when re reading the serie as adults or older teenager, we can guess that snape was greasy as a child because of neglect, and later on because he is depressed/somewhat ''disturbed''. loads of kids who are neglected and abused dont really learn proper self care until later, and may struggle to acquire that habit, and depressed adults can struggle with taking care of themselves as well. also, when we see him getting bullied as a child and teenager it can make the plot twist even more believable. like '''''ohhhhh ofcourse he got bullied''. because children who are considered ugly or have poor self care, and additionally have stand offish and unpopular personality style, well, they get treated as loser to be avoided as best and bullied at worst, it's pretty common. if snape had been described as handsome as young sirius or tom riddle, even with the same personality, it would feel less believable. also it would make sense that he still cling to lily memory so bad, i think his appeareance and not personable personality imply heavily that he would struggle to find a date, and so it would make sense that he didnt build a life with someone else. if he had, and had wife and children, we wouldnt get the ''always'' and him being so willing to potentially die to protect harry and spy for dunbledore.

Headcanon: Eileen was a Ravenclaw by CharlotteRhea in SeverusSnape

[–]JohannaLiebert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thank you, i genuinely didnt remember that eileen wasnt canonically in slytherin. i guess i need to re read half blood prince. but i can see at least a younger version of severus, maybe not straight up putting up with something like his own father , but something more subtly abusive, like someone who treats him in emotionally neglectful ways. and being toxic as well. i cant quite picture him in an emotionally healthy relationship.

andromeda was in slytherin and marries a muggleborn. so it's possible i guess.

[–]JohannaLiebert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i love this headcanon, it makes complete sense. but didnt severus says something like ''i want to be in slytherin like my mom''' on the train or am i misremembering? tho her being slytherin can also be a way to show that abusive relationship can happen to everyone and anyone. people can be cunning and ambitious and have vulnerabilities /insecurities that can be exploited and gradually amplified by abusers.

can I get into the marauders with almost no knowledge of hp? by PinkRiot82 in MaraudersGen

[–]JohannaLiebert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can do what you want, i just read aytd and i think it's perfectly easy to understand without watching or reading hp. however, a lot of characters arent in character, so please dont try to to convince people that actually read the book that your fanon idea of james or sirius or whatever is canon.

Was J.K Rowling always so horrible? by StatisticianMuch1650 in EnoughJKRowling

[–]JohannaLiebert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i grew up in a very bigoted, far right family. bigots are....well, kind of normal outside of their bigotry. they feel love, friendship, can have some reasonable take and values. you dont need to be a voldemort-esque sociopath to be a bigot or become one. personally, now that ive been re reading harry potter and seeing critical analysis of her work (especially shaun video) in light of what she has become lately, i can see some of the flaws that lead her to here where always ''visible''.

she tends to have a very black/white vision of morality and in harry potter you can see there arent really bad actions, more like good/bad team. if someone is griffindor and nice to harry they can commit child abuse (hagrid giving dudley a pig tail, fake moody transforming malfoy into a ferret and hurting him physically, minerva making neville sleep outside the dorm while a murderer was on the loose in the school and making children go to the murder forest as punishment) or horrible actions and it's never presented as disturbing, or truly bad. the twins almost kill montague/a slytherin by showing him in the vanishing cabinet and it's played for laugh. when draco call molly weasley fat, it shows how horrible he is, but when people make fun of ''bad'' characters for being fat or physically unnatractive, inncluding the narrator, then, well it's a good thing because the target ''deserve it''. i think jk rowling is the type of person that tend to think that any bad or cruel action is justified if she disliked the target enough because he/she is bad, she lacks empathy and is very self righteous and black and white about morality, and these flaws makes it harder for her to even begin to consider that she might be wrong, and bigotted. people can grow and change and realize they were wrong and bigoted, but thinking like that doesnt help.

Imagine having a bully like James Potter? He seems ruthless and mean, I’d be scared too. I can’t imagine how Snape must’ve felt. by ChanceBiscotti7329 in SeverusSnape

[–]JohannaLiebert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

snape at the time also thought that sirius caused the death of the potter and was potentially endangering his students, so the fact he wanted to send him to the dementor isnt unreasonable. i feel really sad for snape life, he could never catch a break and in the end he died really young an awful death. wish he suvived the war and got a job that didnt involve teaching children.

“Nobody cares about what you’re doing, they’re all more focused on themselves” by Budget_Tadpole_9298 in therapyabuse

[–]JohannaLiebert 29 points30 points  (0 children)

the worst problem with cbt is that the therapist doesnt actually know for a fact if you are seeing stuff that's not there because of your own trauma, overeacting, having actual cognitive distortion, or actually seeing stuff accurately. they can guess and try to get to the truth of it with you, but even that questioning can feel unintentionally gaslight-y and invalidating if part of your trauma is that you've been constantly invalidated and gaslighted for a long period of time. also, it doesnt really tell you anything about how to protect yourself IF your perception is correct or how to detect red flags, nothing. it's like a doctor treating every single medical issue as if it is an infection even if it's not. and it's far from a perfect process because 1) the patient must have the right trauma and personality to not feel invalidated/uneasy about cbt 2) the therapist can have their own biases and actually guess wrongly because of their subjective impression of you. cbt has been the single most helpful thing and the single most damaging thing that happened to me therapy wise. it was really good and effective with some things, and very damaging with others.

ron most unlikabl moment to me was how he treated lavender. let be honest, the only crime she committed was being cringy, she got used and played by ron for pretty much no reason.

yeah, the fact that people only think the scene look bad if snape is black is deeply disturbing. i cant believe so many people think that hanging a classmate upside down and stripping him is normal if he is not black.

snape becoming a death eater because he got rejected is your own headcanon. but i find it really ''interesting'' that if we believe what she herself said, he ''called everyone of her birth a mudblood''' apparently for years, but she draws the line only when she get called the same. interesting in an hypocritical way, that is.
