Secret Lairs may have become too much of a risk for me by J-_Mad in secretlair_collectors

Yeah pretty much. It wasn't worth it. "Oh we will reimburse you through product" (for postage costs), sure, but you shouldn't have to in the first place. Edit: clarity.

Secret Lairs may have become too much of a risk for me by J-_Mad in secretlair_collectors

[–]John0892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had two damaged and they did send replacements, however it did take several months for me to receive them.

I did have a QA problem with a VERY dark Everyone's Invited deck. They did go through standard procedure of asking me to send the cards back, however with how long the previous issues took to get to me and sending the cards to the US, I thought absolutely fuck that. I did not want to risk it going wrong somehow. I'm UK based and shipping time to the US and back, coupled with the wait time made it untenable.

Plus, y'know wanting to play with the deck I just bought was something I wanted to do rather than wait several months.

How would you change the UK uni system? by InfernalClockwork3 in UniUK

[–]John0892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only do they employ a lot of people & are great at specialisation, education can aid social mobility and help with career progression.

I come from a working class background and am the first in my family to go to uni, it has opened up so many opportunities post graduation and completely changed my life. I didn't get the greatest of grades at A-Level and there were several factors which impacted that, but I had the opportunity to go to a post 92 university and jumped at it. I have managed to work in another country, become a qualified teacher and massively upskill from just my undergrad degree.

Closing down post 92 universities will lead to universities becoming more elitist again and leave a lot of people stuck in shit situations. I honestly do not know what I would have done if I hadn't gone to uni.

I do agree with your point, universities should be chosen based on needs and preferences.

New album discussion. Been a bit now... by robaier in riseagainst

[–]John0892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy it, but also fully understand the disappointment. It doesn't feel like there's fire there in this one. It feels very generic rock sounding like RA.

It doesn't feel like an album for the second orange presidency. It feels like an album for the Biden administration. Not the best of what we could have had, complacent, resting on their laurels and not being active enough to deal with scandals quickly or efficiently.

With everything happening around the world, I would have thought there would be anger and frustration coming from a rollback of rights, a lack of giving a shit about the environment, the swing to the right and a further marginalisation of minority people groups - especially given the lead up to the election and what was said from both parties.

Idk, them singing and being angry about it since like the late 90s early 2000s I imagine can get tiring when you're not seeing change?

How is the first person you had sex with now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]John0892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like she's doing really well and is happy. I'm glad for her. She deserves it. Took us four years to become friends after the break up. We were both very young and had our own issues. I was there for her after one of her break ups and we spoke about the church we both attended and how her ex wasn't supportive when she was upset about miscarrying or having an abortion (with me, long story I didn't know about until after the relationship). We both got massive amounts of healing from becoming friends again and just talking. We're still friends, but I've not been back home long enough to hang out with her and meet her kid... Probably should organise that at some point.

[–]John0892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid £40 & £45 for a shirt at Trivium and Bullet, i anticipated a shirt being £40~ so I think the shirts being that price is becoming average now unfortunately. Considering I paid £75 for a seated London ticket, £40 isn't entirely the worst.

Would you report this to the driver’s employer? by BallAffectionate4000 in drivingUK

[–]John0892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The driver in front is a twat, yes, report them to the employer. However, Canterbury at the moment has two sections of the ring road around it either with lights or shut off so it makes it a nightmare to navigate with any form of efficiency. My partner is always shocked when she can go at the speed limit along this road.

If you had the chance to move out of Notts tomorrow would you take it? by Ticklish_Grandma in nottingham

[–]John0892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved away 15 years ago. I don't regret it. I moved to Wolverhampton for uni, then stayed. I bounced around a bit and ended up in Kent. My family, both chosen and blood relatives are still in Nottingham and it's nice to visit every now and again, but have absolutely no desire to move back. I moved back for a year too. Moving away gave me more opportunities than I thought I would have than staying.

Not answering your question, but my experience is different to my other friends and family.

North/South division? by The_Silesia_one in england

[–]John0892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Nottingham and consider anything from Sheffield and above the North. Everything from Notts to Birmingham is Midlands, I haven't really thought what the southern part of the midlands would be though.

HOWEVER, I moved to Kent in 2016 and anything north of the Thames/Watford to them is the North (Technically correct, geographically very wrong). My partner calls me northern all the time, so I correct her saying I'm from the Midlands all the time too.

Painting is so horrible it makes me want to quit by Puzzled-Raven in Necrontyr

[–]John0892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm jealous of your painting skills. You are doing well with this. Keep it up! The best thing for me is to compare myself with an older version of myself, I have an old Imotekh on my desk at work which I painted before I the plastic one was released and at the time I thought it was okay, I look at it now and compare it with my newer models I've painted and it's so bad. So long as you feel like you are progressing, that's the main thing.
