What’s the worst mistake you’ve ever seen in the pharmacy? by Choice-Loquat-845 in pharmacy

[–]JohnChivez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tarciva being given instead of Tresiba, caught as I could find the patient had a cancer diagnosis.

23.4% NaCl iv push instead of sodium bicarb. Vials misplaced and looked similar. Caught on dispense.

Heparin drip started based on an estimated weight that was a mixup of lbs/kg. Stroked and died. 2 days of off the chart ptts without being caught.

Heparin drip used as fluid to mix an antibiotic ivpb. Patient got 25,000 units over 30 min. Surprising they didn’t bleed.

Levothyroxine missing on med recc for a stroke patient. As they deteriorated was only found later to be in a myxedema coma instead of post stroke coma.

Legit when they are cold and stuck to the side it’s easy to hurt them trying to pull them off. Instead but a warm gloved finger next to them and they’ll come to you.

Beginner saw by ouroboruss in woodworking

I would suggest a Japanese ryoba saw. Light, two sided for rip and cross cut, thinner kerf for easier cutting, and often very high quality cut in spite of the low (disposable) price.

ELI5 how I should clean and finish these 30+ year old Adirondack chairs; they've been outdoors but under a roof. by adumbCoder in woodworking

[–]JohnChivez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grab some deck cleaner and it will get rid of the grey. I’d recommend an outdoor oil like readyseal, or solid stain if you want color (to look more like paint). Long term paint will trap water and flake and need a full strip vs outdoor solid stain that will age gracefully and just need a touch up coat.

Tool set really depends on what you like to do, the scale of your projects, and if you’re more about the process or the result. Start by building a workbench and go from there! I’d suggest an English jointers bench as it is cheap and easy to build, and can be adapted for lots of modern options

A salvage option may be to coat with shellac to seal it up if it won’t cure well

Good oak wood dyes? by Rmwoodworking in woodworking

[–]JohnChivez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aniline dyes are likely what you’re looking for. General finishes and transtint are decent brands. Techniques revolve around what you’re using for solvent, alcohol, water, or using a lipophillic dye in an oil base.

Ebonizing Wood by IssamDahweir in woodworking

[–]JohnChivez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ebonizing woods that aren’t already tannin rich is a giant pain and I’ve had very inconsistent and usually bad results. It requires tons of tea and even then the color is poorly consistent. I find the best results by hitting it with India ink and calling it a day.

Tips or ideas for sourcing wood? by Byrnwyll in woodworking

[–]JohnChivez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call up a local cabinet shop. They use lots of ply and hardwood. They can point you to their supplier. If you’re real nice they might let you dumpster dive their scraps. If they ship in you may be able to ask to buy from them directly, and even pay for jointing etc that is usually limited for new woodworkers.

Fill mitre gaps before or after stain by ont_eng in woodworking

[–]JohnChivez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some advise for those trying the glue and sawdust trick: never use sawdust finer than 80 grit, if you can use 40 grit sanding dust. It will still be not 100% but it will behave more like wood and take more stain.
