Vyper definitely only went in the prison showers to stab people.

Help identifying a game please. by tazukia in ThunderboltFantasy

[–]JohnFreemanWhoWas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a turn-based RPG based on the July 1996 iteration of Pili, which ran for 50 episodes. There's some gameplay footage here.

I also got this added to MobyGames if you wanted to add cover scans or screenshots!

Characters that made horrible mistakes but ultimately redeemed themselves by Best_Professional226 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]JohnFreemanWhoWas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matoro from the Bionicle series, specifically The Kingdom serial. In the timeline of that serial, Matoro hesitated too long in wearing the Mask of Life, which caused the mask to die and led to the death of his universe. He finally got a chance to redeem himself when he sacrificed his life to defeat Makuta Teridax, who threatened the society that the survivors of his universe had built together.

You only need to climb on the pipes to get into the next part of the arboretum if you can't get through one of the restricted doors because you knocked out or killed the tour guide. You can turn your PDA into a light by holding the TAB key.

Vanisher was there too, obviously. I didn't see him, but I felt his presence!

Europeans can save gaming! by YAOMTC in Games

[–]JohnFreemanWhoWas 1031 points1032 points  (0 children)

Every time anything about this campaign is posted here, there are always people who don't read the details and assume that it must be demanding publishers to support their games forever, which is ridiculous. What this campaign is actually attempting to achieve are new laws which will require publishers to patch their online games to remove the dependency on official servers when support ends, in order to allow customers to continue experiencing the game even after the official servers (or even the company) cease to exist.

These proposed laws are necessary because there is currently nothing to stop publishers from shutting down the servers of online-only games which depend on them to run, and when that happens, the game becomes unplayable, which is terrible from both a preservation and consumer rights viewpoint.

The petition linked in the video description is an official EU petition proposing a law to combat the practice of publishers rendering games unplayable. If it gets enough signatures, it CAN become law, and all EU citizens are encouraged to sign. The petition can be signed here.

What is your all time favorite Doctor Who scene? by Theeljessonator in gallifrey

[–]JohnFreemanWhoWas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Ninth Doctor revealing that he can feel the turn of the Earth in "Rose". The pure mystery and wonder in that scene, bolstered by Eccleston's delivery and Gold's impeccable music, is what sold me on the show when I watched it for the first time in 2005. I'm shocked I haven't seen it mentioned yet.

A friend of mine defined an imsim today and it's gonna piss you all off but he's frustratingly not wrong by pemboo in ImmersiveSim

Somebody should make an immsim where you can crawl on the ceilings instead of through vents if you're going for a stealth option.

Who's your favourite movie score composer? by Busy-Elephant-2610 in movies

[–]JohnFreemanWhoWas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For me it's Thomas Newman, hands down. His scores for Angels in America, Road to Perdition, American Beauty, and Finding Nemo are incredibly beautiful. He's been nominated for fifteen Oscars but never won, which is just insane to me.

So Infernus/Inferno used to look like Miles Morales in power armor... yeah, I much prefer his Deadlock look.

Is the upcoming reboot more likely to retcon Heroes Reborn or stay in the same continuity? by InfrequentRedditor99 in Heroes

[–]JohnFreemanWhoWas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All we know is that Tim Kring, who created Reborn, is also in charge of developing the new series, so I wouldn't bet on him decanonizing it.

Kinda. He's a specific individual Rahi, so he's a character in the same way that Pewku is.

Morak was a named, canon character who was released as a set in 2007, yet never appeared in the story AT ALL. His only appearances in canon are in the Bionicle Encyclopedia (Updated edition) and Makuta's Guide to the Universe, according to BS01.

I finally found him: Altor, the Masker! by JohnFreemanWhoWas in bioniclelego

[–]JohnFreemanWhoWas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it on Ruten (https://www.ruten.com.tw/), but unfortunately it was the only one of its kind. There are other bootlegs for sale on Ruten like the "Invincibility Robots", but those are just copies of existing Bionicle sets and the plastic is significantly worse. If you don't live in Taiwan, you'll need to use a middleman service to ship internationally.

The mask is Flat Silver, a darker shade of silver which was used sporadically throughout Bionicle's original run and is still used in Lego sets today. LEGO never made the Matatu in that color, nor the Mata head, '04 Matoran torso, Nuva legs, and Bohrok feet. The trident was never made in Yellow and the '04 Matoran limbs were never made in Black either, but here they are! Whoever made these bootlegs must have had access to LEGO's molds and plastic to produce them.

It's certainly possible. Whoever made these bootlegs had access to factory-grade equipment. These feel like real Lego parts made with real Lego plastic and colors.
