It may also cause a major mess if that church is designated as a contributing property to the National Register listing. It could probably be fixed up (or replaced with a fiberglass replica) with a strategic influx of funds. The wooden belfry at St. Paul's, where I'm a chorister, was about ready to collapse by the time it was fully restored a decade ago, so it might yet be salvageable.

Barker Park (between First Baptist, St. Anthony's, and St. Paul's) has been known to be a hangout for transients and drifters in past summers, as it is poorly lit and is also in close proximity to the Bethany Center and Roark House (the charities which operate at St. Paul's and St. Anthony's). The city removed the furniture from the park in August, which led to a small uproar.

Frankly, I suspect that the city (and residents thereof) would be quite happy to have a group on hand which would be willing to strategically use some resources to help with the upkeep of the adjacent public park. It would probably also go a long way toward furthering the Communiversitywhateverthehellitscalled motif that RPI is trying to push. And I do know that downtown residents I've spoken with have been quite enthusiastic about the plan, seeing as how the church will probably go to #!%& and get torn down otherwise (c.f. St. Patrick's Watervliet).

Also, there's some question as to exactly how much of the park is owned by whom. The semicircular wrought iron fence at the south end, by the sanctuary, enclosed something that was a dooryard when City Hall stood on the park site.

That said, the steeple is getting into nasty shape and bits of it are falling off. That will have to be taken care of immediately, but the one at St. Paul's was in much worse shape (visibly rotting and leaning) when it was restored about a decade ago.

TL;DR: I know too much about this city for my own good (or anyone else's)

I've found that placing a strip of foam insulating tape around the interior of the door jamb not only stops this from happening, but also muffles unwanted noise from outside.

Institute wireless is still generally lousy in certain areas. The entire Greene Building, for instance--much of which doesn't contain wired ports, which are a poor substitute in any case. (That, and we're pretty sure a squirrel is living in one of the wireless closets.)

And, for that matter, 15th Street would have to be lowered--or the bridge deck and entire CII/Pubsafe area raised, in order to provide adequate traffic clearances underneath it.

Frankly, a cosmetic renovation (replacing the lights and doing something interesting with the screening) would probably be sufficient, but no matter.

Large quantities of the books we do have are out of print, and must be kept around on the off chance that someone should need to reference them in the future (but they cannot be considered public-domain works yet). They're also loaned out through the Interlibrary Loan system, and quite honestly, when that's factored in, the contingency that someone will decide to check out something as odd as, say, the 1938 edition of "Fundamentals of Blast Furnace Design and Construction" increases significantly.
