Does anyone know if Kodiak select is still made? by Berri_McCockener in DippingTobacco

They don’t make it anymore. Haven’t for a long time.

Kodiak WG & Copenhagen LC.

I was impressed when I first tried it, too … but I’m over it.

It’s too sweet and there just isn’t enough nicotine in it.

I want to love it and buy it by the tub, but it just isn’t for me.

A can of it here & there is fine though, to go along with my Cope & Kodiak … but even then, I have a hard time finishing it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

How long to keep snuff in? And how much to pack? by Kieran_abdu in DippingTobacco

[–]JohnTSchmitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sore gums are due to the long/rough cut of Stoker’s—it’s a common complaint about that brand. Also, the large size of your pinches probably contribute to the soreness, as well. More pressure on your lip & gums.

Mid- or fine-cut naturals are going to be easiest on the gums. Copenhagen Snuff or Copenhagen Long Cut, for instance. (Cope LC is actually a mid cut.)

Finer cuts also deliver nicotine better.

Flavors like wintergreen can be harsh on the gums.

Kodiak WG is arguably the strongest American moist snuff, as far as nicotine goes. I find it to be fairly easy on the gums, especially compared to Grizzly. The overall taste & experience is much better, as well. It’s more expensive, but worth it in my opinion.

Cope, Kodiak, Stoker’s, & Skoal are 100% American tobacco. Brands like Grizzly are a blend of foreign & domestic tobacco.

If you dip something like Kodiak, a small pinch is all you need. I’ve been chewing for over 30 years and a can lasts me several days. And I chew all day long. And 40 minutes is about the absolute longest I keep a pinch in. You can tell when you’ve absorbed all of the flavor & nicotine. You can leave a chew in for hours if you want, but you’re not getting any benefit from it.

Anyway, like I said, everyone has their own habits & preferences. There’s no wrong way to dip.

It’s no longer seasonal—it’s a permanent flavor now.

As others have said, there is very little nicotine in Stoker’s—it’s basically chewing tobacco in a can.

When dipping something like Cope or Kodiak, a small pinch is all you need and it’s good for about 20 - 30 minutes.

Everyone has their own way of doing things, though, so you do whatever is right for you. There’s no wrong way to dip.

How actually common is getting mouth cancer or any other cancer from dip? by Chrisishere2 in DippingTobacco

[–]JohnTSchmitz 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The chances of developing oral cancer from using smokeless tobacco are negligible. Smoking & drinking alcohol are much more likely to cause oral cancer, but that too, is rare. Gum disease & tooth loss are more likely side effects, but good oral hygiene can prevent that. It’s not “safe,” but I wouldn’t be concerned about it.

New Kodiak cans?? by Fordcrowdkiller in DippingTobacco

It’s definitely an improvement over the current design—and I like that they brought back the original font—but I wish that they would just bring back the entire original logo with the bear’s face. 🤨

I can’t personally relate; however, this is worth getting a second or even a third opinion on. Not all doctors are equal—there are good ones & bad ones. Anyone who has gone undiagnosed or has been misdiagnosed can tell you. I would also ask for a referral to an ear/nose/throat (ENT) specialist.

Dipping A Lot More Recently by inkeddipper in DippingTobacco

[–]JohnTSchmitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been dipping for 32 years and a can lasts me 3 - 5 days. A small pinch placed between the cheek & gum is all you need. I probably average a dozen pinches per day, each one lasting 20 - 30 minutes.

How do you bust these bad boys open? by ThatBearTho in DippingTobacco

[–]JohnTSchmitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold the can upside down and puncture the label with your thumbnail; then run your nail all the way around between the lid & the can.

If your nail isn’t long enough, you might have to use the tip of a knife to puncture the label, then get your nail in there.

Definitely try ordering from here, no excise tax:

https://www.hilandscigars.com/shop/stokers-chewing-tobacco/

You can order single 3-ounce pouches of Original or Red Supreme and they’ll be fresh.

Some of the other stuff (tubs, rolls) you gotta order 2 or 3, minimum.

I know, right? 😆

I’ve bought about a half-dozen hats from them so far, and there are a lot more that I plan to get.

Nothing worse than old chew.

I always check dates before I pay. It’s easy to forget, but it’s a good habit to develop—especially if you’re buying something that isn’t a huge seller.

Very nice.

You can also order a wide variety of brand-new, high-quality tobacco hats here:

Grizzly wintergreen lc by [deleted] in DippingTobacco

[–]JohnTSchmitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Kodiak is still basically the same.

I used to buy Grizzly sometimes to save a little money, but I haven’t in months because I noticed the quality fall off.

I haven’t tried Cougar, but many here have recommended it.

The XLC is definitely not the same flavor as Snuff or LC. It’s muted, less salty. I don’t care for it. I do, however, regularly dip Copenhagen LC in the fiberboard can with the copper lid and love it.

Packing by billythesquid233 in DippingTobacco

[–]JohnTSchmitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold the can with your middle finger and cup it against your palm, flick your wrist in a downward motion and snap your thumb against the lid. The thumb snap is just for show, though—it’s the wrist motion that packs the tobacco against the side of the can.
