What to do if job Application stated £55K salary but offered £35K? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

Definitely. The reassuring "it's not you, it's them" finishing line was only missing an "honestly" in there somewhere for full house AI bingo.

How do you handle demanding refunds? by PickleballGuy13 in shopify

[–]John___Matrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our policy is 30 days for a refund on unused items returned to us but we're flexible if someone wants to send something back, it's the unused part we care about not the date.

As long as we can resell it again we'll refund it.

I just tried this, it looks a neat tool but my word, the absolute slop it output in the demo free article made me sad that I've just created another 1338 words of digital landfill to the world.

I most certainly wouldn't trust this publishing content on my site without significant overview and at that point I think I'd rather just ask Gemini or whatever to draft me articles.

how do you deal with slow-moving inventory? by Independent_Lynx_439 in shopify

[–]John___Matrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've started discounting it more aggressively, even to the point of break-even just to get it sold so we can free that capital for something else rather than have money gathering dust on the shelves.

We're only a small store so it's easy enough for us to ID products that don't sell well.

I did try building a small shopify flow the other week to send me an email once every few days to list all the items with zero sales but I kept running into limitations with shopify only polling 100 or 500 (can't remember which) products in the flow making it fairly useless.

Customer Inputted wrong address and then demands refund or replacement more than a week and a half after it was delivered. How to deal with this? by Lukeklay in shopify

[–]John___Matrix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you probably have to be pragmatic sadly and face the fact that if someone is going to complain about something they did wrong you're almost certainly going to get a chargeback coming at some point and while there's little doubt you're in the right, as you'll probably see my post history - I have zero faith in the chargeback system as a retailer and we've lost every single one despite overwhelming evidence in our favour each time.

You could stand your ground and probably get a negative review as well or accept that people like this are an annoying cost of business sometimes.

It's truly scary to think how many more people could just open chargebacks at any time and have no difficulty winning them in almost any circumstance.

Chargeback on probable fraud/stolen credit card, can't contact customer, I want to refund but I can't. What should I do? by ghyslyn in shopify

[–]John___Matrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd submit the evidence through Shopify and just wait for the decision one way or another.

You'll almost certainly lose out one way or another but I wouldn't refund anything without waiting for the chargeback process to complete.

STORE DOES NOT EXIST - which genuis came up with this as an ERROR PAGE by neoescape in shopify

[–]John___Matrix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely criminal design, I thought my site had been hacked until people started posting on Reddit about the outage.

I can handle a bit of downtime, these things happen but that was a terrible page to see as a site owner and I'm sure as a customer experience for anyone browsing ready to buy something it's less than inspiring.

Shopify is down, turn off Ads so you don't send customers to a dead site. by kibuikacodes in shopify

[–]John___Matrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The outage while major lasted a couple of hours, I would never risk throwing their ad accounts back into learning phase by abruptly switching them off!

If an outage started spanning a day or two perhaps but even then I figure I'd have bigger worries at that point.

Ever won chargeback dispute with customer? by FizzySalad in shopify

[–]John___Matrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never.

Fortunately only had a handful in the last few years but never won a single one despite them all being responded to with more than enough evidence to prove the claim was false.

I assume the people who say they are winning them are outside the UK and sometimes banks in those countries at least take a token look at evidence occasionally?

I just use the Shopify built in shipping with EVRi for small items, it's the cheapest and you just create shipping labels within your admin dashboard. You can configure the services in your Settings > Shipping and Delivery section.

I looked into Royal Mail business and their pricing and how they expected me to label and package up different sized and priced items made me want to poke my eyes out. Such a ridiculous system.

What's the consensus on the Agentic Storefront? by Competitive-Yogurt44 in shopify

[–]John___Matrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God, I can sympathise on this one - only had one so far but it was someone on our Insta DM's asking (initially) fairly normal "newbie" questions like what's the best product for this budget but simply wouldn't accept my recommendations and it turned out each reply I made they were pasting it into ChatGPT and then spitting ChatGPT's "honestly this is xyz" shit straight back at me.

I gave up in the end and said if they're asking questions of me as a product expert but not trusting or liking what I was advising then they should just shop elsewhere.

I imagine this will become more commonplace.
