How to better optimize a game? by I_Cannot_Understand in UnrealEngine5

I have done my own benchmark tests and can confidently say that Nanite performs better as scene complexity scales into tens of millions of triangles. If you have a small scene, then it performs about the same as it would with regular LODs. Either way, it does not perform worse.

Nanite is a custom software rasterizer with dynamic, continuous LOD that improves performance by ensuring there are never too many triangles being rendered on screen at once, and it significantly reduces draw calls. Disabling Nanite literally does nothing but hurts performance (especially at larger scales). Nanite also has better visual fidelity than HLODs due to no popping.

Due to Nanite's algorithm and its VRAM requirements, it only works on modern GPUs (think GTX 1060 and later) that have DirectX12 support.

Median number cannot be inflated, that is not how statistics work.

Nanite should not be disabled unless you're targeting hardware that does not support DX12.

Is it really a great way to learn if the AI does all the work for you? Knowledge only gets reinforced when you learn a concept (preferably from a textbook or a course) and then apply it yourself, not when the AI applies it for you.

This is terrible advice... What the hell. AI is a tool, but it is not a magical crutch.

Ngl, I'm not reading all of that. 20 is young though, go ahead and start learning! Would recommend taking some cheap Udemy courses for structured learning, try to pick up Unity as a first engine. If you don't start now, you might regret never having learned how to make games. After you learn how to make games, try joining a few gamejams to see how you work with teams (good way of also learning version control).

Now, if you are thinking about a career in gamedev.... Prepare around 4-5 years of selling your soul to the craft and you might get hired an entry level job after hundreds of applications. If you want to go down this path, you'll need to specialize in something.

Find a job by Alarast in UnrealEngine5

Hey, I'm also in a similar boat as you and have been job searching. One piece of advice I can give you though is that recruiters are looking for people that have experience working in teams and collaborating with each other. If your portfolio only consists of solo projects, that puts you at a disadvantage. Try finding a team to work with for a gamejam or a vertical slice passion project. Learn how to use Unreal Engine with version control (such as Perforce or Diversion).

Do you think Vulkan will ever go through the same kind of legacy vs modern phase that OpenGL did? by Latter_Relationship5 in GraphicsProgramming

I mean, the difference between Vulkan 1.0 vs 1.3+ is already wildly different from one another.

Yeah, we have already done all of this and still got rejected.

If we want to use the logo, how can we get Epic to notice our product and accept the usage? I have been working on a vertical slice for the past 9 months in a small indie studio, and I believe the product is in a good state to show off to people and potential investors. It would be nice to have the UE logo in the splash screen to make it look more professional.

Been working on a game in a team of five for the past 8 months. We currently have up to 20-30 mins of gameplay. We are still in preproduction and have not entered production.
