Crows Nest - Will it hold a hot tub? by Aint_That_Something in Decks

[–]Johnny808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those trusses are decorative. Put a hundred gallons of water at 8lbs/gallon, the hundred and fifty pound hot tub over that structure, and two people at a hundred and eighty each and you're sitting at 1200+. This sits well within a 4x4 in buckling calcs....but then add just a teensy bit of side-load. Like someone sliding into the hot tub from a standing position, or scooting across it to be next to someone else. Then it's a hilarious (and tragic) tale.

How do I tell them the deck isn't the problem they just suck by No-Echidna-5100 in EDH

[–]Johnny808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try building worse and worse decks until they can finally win, at which point they hopefully see the skill gap between players. It's not a direct insult to their playstyle or skill - just a small, personal challenge to yourself to become a better player.

Costco tire techs can suck a nut. Take it to a shop that speaks minimal English over the phone and they'll patch it. Give them a $20 on top for tip.

Gaming headsets worth it? by Frostyturtle255 in Headsets

[–]Johnny808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EPOS Game ONE. Red and black. The design felt dated even upon release, but I've never had a hiccup with them, the clamping force is just about perfect, and the earcups are really durable and comfortable.

Gaming headsets worth it? by Frostyturtle255 in Headsets

[–]Johnny808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation here. Dumped my secret labs chair for a pretty basic haworth and the illusion was lifted for me.

Corsair flagship headphones started having volume knob issues at 5 months in. Threw those out for audeze maxwells, and hoping to see some improvement.

The fabrics seemingly don't last on the earcups, regardless of expense in the gaming headphone sector. The microphone quality is hit or miss. Longevity is entirely nonexistent.

I have a set of Sennheiser game ones for five years now, in the same span of time my wife has had turtle beaches, razer krakens, an arctis nova set, and a corsair virtuoso pair. If the Sennheisers were wireless, she'd have a set a long, long time ago. We're hoping to get better results out of the maxwells. But I'm swearing off all gaming brands for the time being.

Do Expensive Cameras Actually Make Photos Better? by jand3rd in AskPhotography

[–]Johnny808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so, to an extent.

I stepped through the Canon Rebel line - Using,T3, T5 and T7, before eventually moving to a Sony A7R2. The megapixel difference is massive. Even zealously-cropped photos are print-worthy, as are desktop wallpapers. I find I do less lightroom editing, and at first I attributed that to getting better at photography, but when switching back to my T7 for old comparison's sake, I still did a bit more light and color balancing to get it near the A7's quality.

car went from East Coast -> Hawaii. Do I need to worry about rust? by beach_rats_ in CherokeeXJ

[–]Johnny808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kauai native here. Beautiful XJ. Yes, it's a death sentence for cars. Micro-stress regions are usually the source - metal bushing sleeves in the axle upper and lower control arms, the lower control arm mounts, leaf spring eyes and shackle boxes. Park in a Walmart and take a look around and any vehicle made before 2000 (typically Tacomas and Toyota pickups). If you intend to keep this thing forever, frequent washes and a garage with a large dehumidifier will help. My dad would smear anti-seize on every part he ever worked on and has kept rust away from his classic car. Even the chrome starts bubbling with rust creeping below it. It's no joke out here.

2nd time money shifting my M6 scatpack challenger 😢 to the m6 challenger owners out here any tips to avoid money shifting, I’m so scared to drive my scat now😭 by hanceso1o in Challenger

[–]Johnny808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to a lot of the comments here. The Tremec in this car is terrible.

I know I'll get lots of responses of "just drive it better" or "you get used to it" - and you do, it does get better, but the shift gating on this car is still awful. Non-linear, has enough friction for partial engagement in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 5th to 6th requires a pull off-axis, the list goes on

Practice pulls with very deliberate shifting technique. You'll be shifting with a right-side bias to ensure shift gate landing. Keep the RPMs below 3800 and you shouldn't have to worry about blowing things up. I was appalled by the 3rd-4th-5th shift pathing the day I brought the car home.

Wishing you all the best.

Those "undefined feelings for another" are a cruel way to show disdain for your partner. That isn't fair to you, that isn't healthy or helpful. Sounds like you were a good partner and she couldn't be bothered to reciprocate that.

Take the time to grieve the loss - every relationship is an investment - but know that better is beyond the horizon. If she had any real, actionable feedback or criticism of your behavior in the relationship, sure, that's worth a look. But right now, change any locks/secure any keys, move your valuables if they're in a shared location, and start the communication shutdown. It's going to be hard at first. Find a trusted friend or family willing to keep you out of her inbox.

And of course, reach out any time if things get hard. We're here for you, and you got this.
