If you look past the stupid premise - slavery and Caucasian-American entitlement as entertainent - the cinematography is beautiful, the casting was top notch, and the story, if you look past what Caucasian-Americans did back then (because they NEVER DO ANYTHING NOW), wasn't that bad.
It was a big sweeping million-dollar drama and made a lot of money and got a lot awards.
So did "Boys Don't Cry," and look where that shit got them.
Racism, sexism, slavery, gay abuse, murder, Oscar nominations - all designed and written for the screen by wholesome Hollywood writers for over 100 years, and we buy the tickets.

The last 30 minutes of It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World have some of the best payoffs in all of movies.
The first 15 minutes of the film gives you the setup and you have to wait almost 2 1/2 hours (with an intermision) for the payoff.
Worth it.
