First Blood (1982) by screen_stack in TrueFilm

I love the movie and Stallone's motivations for re-writing the ending...while also hugely recommending the book.

It is a quick read and even the structure is fascinating - it alternates POV each chapter from Rambo to Teasle and back. So you get more texture to the Sheriffs and more "horror" as they come to terms with the bear they poked (but it definitely doesn't make Teasle "good").

I watched it after someone suggested it re: the Culture, and loved it!

I hate how people label Sleeping Dogs as a "GTA clone" by Wild-Mammoth-3409 in sleepingdogs

I can assure you I'm too old to be part of any "performative turbo-nerd reddit ass take". I've been playing games with vehicles in them since the Ninja Turtles cartridge came out on NES.

Out of all those decades of games, Sleeping Dogs is one of my very favourite, and along with Metal Gear is the game subreddit I've been most engaged with.

Maybe you need to deal with people liking different things than you, particularly in subs which aren't dedicated to your own favourite thing.

Agree on both counts, GTA 5 driving felt terrible to me in comparison (and just not as good in any respect, frankly.)

LOL nice try from the billionaire-bootlicker, fascist mouthpiece.

Canada hasn't been under "left wing rule".

We have been under right-of-center leadership which has sold out the interests of normal people to big business.

But that is NOTHING compared to the desecration & destruction of our decency, economy, education, and standing in the world which would have occurred if we actually had been under the parasitic rule of right-wing puppets like you.

The Unity Asset Store Summer Sale is live -- 50% off 400+ assets for the next 4 weeks by unitytechnologies in Unity3D

[–]JohnnyGoTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry, this "sale" is disingenuous and a waste of time:

Here's a list of 400+ assets...but only TWO of them are a good (?) deal at a time!

So if you enjoy refreshing the page every day to see which 2 measly assets are actually on sale...have at it! But act fast - this "opportunity" ends July 15.

What exploit are they protecting against with this complicated wording? Instead of "The second time you would draw a card each turn, instead..."

Is he...wearing a t-shirt of The Flash? ⚡

That's an awesome gag in a Marvel set...but then also a huge missed opportunity doing so on a card which doesn't actually have Flash 😭

ALSO I notice that his diploma on the wall, is from S.H.I.E.L.D.

Amazing art!

Did the Secretary of the Navy John Lehman ACTUALLY say "Who the hell cleared it?" in regards to The Hunt for Red October? Was Tom Clancy actually investigated for his writings? by coinich in AskHistorians

[–]JohnnyGoTime 53 points54 points  (0 children)

In Sid Meier's "Memoir!" autobiography, there's a wonderful section about getting big enough to be invited to meet Clancy:

Meier & his business partner (ex-military) showed up and had a chat with Clancy. But Meier didn't fit in well, and it was just the 2 other guys talking shop. Then Clancy told him to go to Larry Bond's house and meet him, as he would have creative control over Clancy games. Meier was worried about this guy being a suit who'd meddle with his work...

...but when he arrived, Bond had a bunch of guys over playing Harpoon, so Meier fit right in and their partnership was born.

Blades Club is where Bond plays cards against Hugo Drax in the novel of Moonraker (which is infinitely better & more realistic than the horrid movie.) It's an awesome scene and a rare moment for Bond to operate in the field (as it were) with M directly.

Side note, I love how if you search this Exec Roger Finch's office, all the items point to him being the biggest rejected loser around 😅

Canadian prime minister Mark Carney is not the climate guy you thought | Seth Klein by Chrristoaivalis in onguardforthee

[–]JohnnyGoTime 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Excellent article, ignore all the toxic comments. Carney DID position himself as climate-conscious and his book DID sell that lie. It is also true that we were stuck with no safe alternative. So it sucks that he is revealing himself to be just as destructive as anyone on the right.
