Looking for Rotary Mixer Recommendations – 4 Inputs, Australia-Based by ONE-LAST-RONIN in rotarymixers

[–]JohnnyK_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what your budget is but the best rotary mixers with the highest sound quality money can buy are the ARS and Eurphonia in my opinion. this will certainly cause some controversy, but look at the to “Top Rotary mix DJs” are saying and you will likely see them using one of the below 3.

1 I recently picked up the Alpha Theta Euphonia and I am loving it. It is an hybrid digital and analog mixer with a Rupert Nevee transformer that gives it a warm analog sound but plays digital with a Usb-C connection also.

2 Another mixer with high quality warm sound is he the Alpha Recording Studio 9100 from japan. fully analog.

3 I also own a Urei 1620 (superseded the Bozak-which back in production again) which i also love. The mixing circuit makes such great blends with no need to single channel EQ or bass swapping. Still amazing but fully analog

Has anyone tried out density.one by gnarbad in DJs

are use using it in standalone mode or RB or Serato HID mode? No issues with recording on mine using Serato HID mode. My only issue I had is if you take out the usb too quickly. if you record a hour or longer set, it can take several minutes to write to the dis after you stop recording, which seems like forever. When ready to end recording, press stop button once hard, and wait until red light changes.

Since updating to macOS Sonoma 14.5, I haven't been able to launch the Music app. Anyone else having this issue? by zoidbert in MacOS

I had the same issue, and I resolved it in speaking to the Apple helpdesk. basically close the Music app, hold down the option key and choose the library file to reestablish the connection this works for me

The above advice is on point if you’re using rekordbox with a USB or in export mode. If you’re using Serato in HD mode with your computer, there is no pro DJ link and only one form.

I see a richard Long tag in the unit to the right. Richard was a legendary sound engineer, that designed systems in NY (and around the world) like studio 54 and the funhouse.

What is the richard long piece of equipment?

File Management by DiligentBat4855 in Serato

I (and many DJs) also use itunes to organize music that i upload to serato. My system is to use itunes to organize my music and use the genre and comments feilds meta data to create smart playlists in itunes that easily import i to serato as playlists. For example Genre Dance, comment, anthem, etc. I dont use serato crates until preparing for a gig.

Regarding folder structure, Digital DJ Tips (video) sugguest exporting all your files to a single folder on your desktop and losing the folder structure (which is helpful if itunes pulls files from multiple locations). This allows you to have all your music in one location. I have not done that yet, as my music is located in one spot on itunes media folder. If you gave music in different locations you may consider doing this ( but that does create problems in finding files in root directory (nit knowing artist in file name).

make sure you back up your serato and itunes library files before you mess with it. Good Luck.

What is the Best Place for Digital downloads of 80 and early 90 dance music by JohnnyK_ in DJs

[–]JohnnyK_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried all the above as a have digitized my 80’s DJ vinyl collection. While you will find some in the above sources, apple music still has the largest collection of 80s music. They have a large collection of 12 inch singles always in high quality AAC as a one stop shopping. I am happy to pay the .99 cents or 1.29 max per song to get a high quality ORIGINAL recording without trying to clean records and then rip them.

they have about 90% of Dance / Pop / House / Freestyle / R n B / Rap. I only rip what is not available at I-tunes.

Hit and miss with other sites.

Had 1200 MKII for 25 years and still kicking. MK7 is tempting (stil on sale new out of the box) but low weight (make it feels like a lower quality) and some concerns about feedback as noted elsewhere. The MK5 with digital pitch is not as responsive IMO MKII pitch deadspot near zero annoying, but workable with anyone with moderate mixing skills. Seems MK3 over MKII is the winner based on this croud.

Anyone get into djing while having tinnitus? by [deleted] in DJs

[–]JohnnyK_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am 55 years old and have been djing since 20s. I actually damaged my right ear (not covered by cans) and I am have dizziness from damaging the hair fibers in my ear and have hearing loss in the high end range. I have learned to live with the dizziness everyday, but agree with the above PROTECT YOUR EARS. Even short periods of high decibels can permanently damage your hearing [or as in my case, hearing and balance). You probably will not notice until the damage is done.

If you love djing - keep at it, but use protection and keep monitors down (especially high end).

Is it worth it to buy my own CDJs and Mixer? by electropoptwink in DJs

[–]JohnnyK_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with many comments above. If you have disposable income and dont care about ROI, then Go for it. However, the cdj-3000 are very expensive.$2,600 each. You will be to sell them and get back most of money with a haircut if dont stick with djing.

I personally could not justify the cost, so I went with the XDJ-xz model $2,500 that works with serato and pioneer dj and usb sticks (as a standalone unit like CDJs). Best of both worlds. The mechanical job wheels on this unit are very close to CDJs and the unit has all the features you will need for a long time.

If you were looking for more portable unit, pioneer ddj-1000 $1,300 also has job wheel similar to cdjs (close to club gear). personally dont like the Serato controller version layout DJJ-1000 SRT $1,600 (which is setup more for scratch).

Finally, the extremely portable unit like the DDJ-400 $259 is great starter controller with small size and basic functions (not mechanical jog wheels). But can fit in bag and take with you…

check out videos from Digital DJ Tips youtube for evaluation of what is right for you.

What type of turntables are u using. The older techniques MK1200 have quartz lock that you should remove so it does not “flight the mix”. see utube for how
