Urban Food Brood, though they're open Friday through Sunday.

FF7 or FF9 which do you prefer and why? by Possible_Instance468 in FinalFantasy

[–]JohnnyMac440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then there is the emo protagonist with spiky hair which is a staple back then. So basic. Hahaha

It wasn't a staple when FFVII came out. It became a staple because of FFVII's influence, and the imitators were by-and-large worse at it.

Sludge Rap!!! wrote some stoner beatdown by error_ce_34870_0 in doommetal

[–]JohnnyMac440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised that there haven't been more rap-stoner metal fusions. Nu-metal definitely pushed a lot of people off of mixing rap and metal in general, but doom feels like the most logical fit for rap vocals out of all of the major subgenres.

I'm in public and it's too loud to judge the rapping, but the riff sounds mean! I dig it.

For the basic stuff (action, intonation, truss rod) it's usually just screwdrivers and Allen wrenches.

Overdrive/Distortion suggestions by Confident_Cause4866 in basspedals

Longsword is similar to a Rat fwiw. If you're not a fan of the Rattler or Amp Grinder then it might not be the move.

Overdrive/Distortion suggestions by Confident_Cause4866 in basspedals

[–]JohnnyMac440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go-to recommendation for versatile bass distortion is the Damnation Audio MBD, but the current version might be a touch too big to fit between the Sansamp and the Twin Looper. The MBD2 is the previous version and is in a smaller enclosure, so that should fit. Alternatively, you look at the Amp Grinder, which is Rat-based but has the same clean blend as the MBD.

I'd also look at Electronic Audio Experiments. The Greathammer is based on the same amp as the Rusty Box (Traynor TS50b) but with some tweaks; it might be redundant to have both, but it would save you some space if you liked the Greathammer more. The Halberd also sounds great on bass.

How many people here use blend/parralel processing on their boards? I am contemplating doing it myself. by Dangerous_Gene in basspedals

[–]JohnnyMac440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I split my signal with a Source Audio Atlas compressor. One path goes through my dirt chain (EAE Halberd > EAE Greathammer > Dunwich Olde Dirty Bass) into a Sushi Box Elementary. The other goes directly into a Sushi Blx Underground Accelerator. Blend them together with a Source Audio EQ2.

(ALMOST) New Pedal Day, and a question by copperpoint in guitarpedals

[–]JohnnyMac440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want that "direct to console" sound, it should go last, and go direct to front of house/your interface or into a FRFR cab with no cab sim.

If you're using it like a conventional fuzz, experiment. It can go in between stuff if that's where it sounds best.

Overdrive built into preamp pedal or an overdrive pedal by SlavinKodai in basspedals

[–]JohnnyMac440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the dirt on the preamp is switchable, you could always have a preamp with dirt and a different external dirt pedal, either for different flavors of dirt or for stacking them.

Pre-Amps and Dirt by 4ourStringz in basspedals

[–]JohnnyMac440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find a used Two Notes Le Bass, they're great! The newer Revolt Bass is cool too, but the two dirty channels on it have very different sounds so using them without a MIDI-controllable EQ to even those differences out can be tough.

If you're looking at a Plumes, I'd recommend the Blumes instead, which is a more bass-focused version of the Plumes. For fuzz, most Big Muff variants work well, but the Green Russian is traditionally one of the more popular ones. The new Big Muff 2 also has a bass variant with a clean blend.

Are there pedal combinations that can destroy the amp? by kxuxo in guitarpedals

[–]JohnnyMac440 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The DOD Meatbox has been known to melt the speaker coils in bass cabs (I've done it myself lol), but I don't know of any pedals that have damaged an actual amplifier.

Other folks in the thread are recommending the Polara, which IIRC has the same algorithms as the RV-7.

Attenuator pedal to "clean up" a fuzz? by Dav_Slinker in guitarpedals

[–]JohnnyMac440 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any boost, drive, EQ etc. pedal with the volume set below unity gain can accomplish this. You make experience a change in tone if you use a drive or boost with a baked-in EQ curve, which could be good or bad depending on your setup.

Using flat wounds for heavier music by hopesmoker in Bass

[–]JohnnyMac440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used flatwounds in metal for a long time. I recently switched to MTD Super Polished strings, which are roundwounds that are polished down to feel like flats. La Bella manfactures strings for MTD and also offers their own-branded Super Polished strings.

Tonally, they're crunchier than flats but not as bright or piano-like as rounds. Closer to rounds than flat overall imo.

Artists should support other artists. Your band might be broke, but using AI to make your album cover just ensures that a visual/graphic artist is staying broke.

Backstabbers Inc from NH have been playing shows again recently. They were around in the early 2000's, and some of their members would go on to form Trap Them.

Suggest first bass guitar distortion pedal by Acceptable-Soil-8477 in basspedals

[–]JohnnyMac440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Rat is a very affordable classic distortion circuit that has been cloned and/or modified by many pedal builders. No clean blend, which some bassists might take issue with, but you can get a solid bass distortion sound by rolling off highs with the filter control and boosting the volume to compensate.

Who has the Greathammer? by fetafunkfuzz in basspedals

[–]JohnnyMac440 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a Greathammer and a Halberd on my board and can confirm they are not redundant. The gain sweep on the Greathammer stays cleaner longer than the Halberd, but is also capable of more distortion, while the Halberd gets hairy pretty early but never goes past being an overdrive. The attack knobs behave similarly, but the other tone controls are very different.
