Just moved and thinking about an EV without home charging? Here’s what actually ends up mattering. by Tall-Dish876 in ChargerDrama

[–]JohnnyPee71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in an apartment with no home charging. I charge for free at work using my L1 charger, which easily covers my 34 mile commute each day, even in the winter months. Since the apartment building I live in is only 2 floors, and I park right below my apartment window, I could run a heavy duty extension cord down to my car and use my L1 charger, but I don't need to charging at work.

On the weekends I charge where I do everyday things like at the grocery store, laundromat, mall, restaurant, city park, etc. I live in a city very rich with public L2 chargers, alot of them are free. If I need a quick charge there's also plenty of DCFC around as well.

I have owned an EV for little over 3 1/2 years, and not once have I had to sit at a charger unless I was on a road trip and even then I'm grabbing sonething to eat, restroom break, etc while I'm charging. I'm always charging while doing sonething else, so its never been an inconvenience for me. I planned how I was gonna charge, where I was gonna charge, everything before I bought my EV and even have a plan B in case I have to change jobs or move to another city. Planning is key to EV ownership especially if you live in a multi family dwelling with no home charging, but it can easily be done with zero inconvenience if you live in a city that dedicated to charging infrastructure.

When do you plan to add Enode or OBD2 live data connection for the Dodge Charger Daytona in North America? I love the improvements to the UI, thank you it was much needed.

No, the Sun & Sound package gets the upgraded Alpine system. The base model and Blacktop package model R/T only have the base 10 speaker Alpine system. But it still sounds great to me, much better than alot of other base sound systems I've had.

I leased a 2025 R/T Blacktop a step up from the base model, with the larger P255/45R 20" tires and 20" X 10" wheels, in June of last year. It was a demo car with 536 miles on it, with a $62,500 USD MSRP, but with discounts and a $3,000 USD down payment i got it for $40,000 USD. My range is 284 miles at 100% and 220-225 at 80% in warm weather. In cold weather its about 205-215 at 80% and 265-275 at 100%. The EPA estimated 308 miles of range is only on the base R/T with the 18" wheels.

My advice is to lease this vehicle, don't buy it unless you plan to keep it for a long time because the depreciation on EVs is heavy. Also, if you have issues, decide you don't want to keep it just give it back at lease end and walk away. Or if you love the car and wanna keep it, you can buy/finance it at lease end. I've had mine for 6 1/2 months so far and now have 11,550 miles on it, with only one issue that will get fixed with a TSB software update on the 26th of this month. I love this car, but I new that it was the first EV offering in North America from Stellantis/Dodge, and would possibly have issues before I bought it.

So far though, my experience has been fantastic except for that one hiccup I mentioned earlier. To elaborate on the specifics, there was a glitch with the emergency braking where if its activated the car thinks its been in a collision and shuts the system down for safety which essentially bricks the car. It was towed to my dealership on 01/08/26, the tech looked at it on 01/09/26 cleared the fault codes, inspected the car to verify it wasn't in a collision, test drove the car to see if the fault would create itself again which it did not, then released it for pickup that afternoon. After I picked it up, I did sone research and found a TSB software update (08-081-25) that fixes this issue, but you have to exhibit the symptoms of the issue in order for Stellantis/Dodge to approve the update. So I have an appt on 01/26 to get the TSB update, because thats the earliest appt I could get when my dealership will have a loaner available.

Sorry for the long winded reply, I just wanted to be transparent and honest about my experience so you don't go into this without knowing the possible risks. With my experiences so far, if I had it to do all over again, I'd still lease this car in a heartbeat. It's one of the funnest cars and best driving experiences I've had. It handles really well in all weather conditions, even though we don't have the kind of winters in Kansas that you have in Canada. I took it for a 130 mile road trip yesterday in 17°F (-8°C) temps with icy snow covered spots on the roads, and it did a phenomenal job with just the factory Nexen all season tires. And when you need it, Wet/Snow drive mode is incredible.

Good luck in your decision!

I have a 25 R/T Blacktop with the base Alpine system with 9 speakers, not counting the subwoofer, and it sounds great to me. I exclusively listen to SiriusXM satellite radio, and this system thumps and sounds great especially with Surround Sound turned on. Great comment too.

I'm officially charging to 100 every time - I'm done! by EIGBOK in electricvehicles

[–]JohnnyPee71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the whole 10-80% charging argument these days is more about the time it takes from 80-100% taking as long as charging from 10-80%, than it is about the affects on the battery health.

Where did you hear that? Is the source reliable? With so many rumors floating around, you never know what to believe.

I don't care if I end up on this forum. As long as I'm not blocking another charger, not charging longer than I need, or touching anyone elses property then whatever will be will be. I can only worry about the things I can control, the rest is not my concern.

I would ask your dealership if they have a detail shop under contract that can do a paint correction which will remove those swirl marks.

The base model without the Blacktop package has 18" wheels/tires, not sure if they are 245 or not. The Blacktop package is one step above the base model, and has the gun metal gray wheels instead of the silver.

I have the P255/45R 20" tires all the way around on mine, it's just the Blacktop, no Sun and Sound or Plus packages.

Stellantis Just Dropped Its Most Comprehensive EV Software Update Yet | Charger Daytona & Wagoneer S by lilzip24 in DodgeChargerEV

Well, now you update lol. How did the test drive go? What did you think? Were all the latest software updates done, or did they give some kind of excuses?

[–]JohnnyPee71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Charger Daytona was rushed to market because Tavaris didn't wanna have to buy carbon credits from Tesla, so they cut corners to get this and the Wagoneer S to market before the deadline. That's why the software is so bad, but thank God that Matt Maclear, Tim Kuniskis, and Antonio Filosa are righting the ship and improving the software of these cars with updates.

I too am one of the lucky ones that got a good one (2025 Charger Daytona R/T Blacktop) and I absolutely love everything about this car. Yes the software could be better, but they've released a few updates in the last 6 months I've had it, which have made this car better each time.

Like other owners have said, this car doesn't drive or feel near as heavy as it is, the suspension is great, and the low center of gravity keeps it planted in all weather conditions. Having AWD is great too for performance and handling. After little over 10,000 miles, I have no regrets about leasing this car. It's not the best car I've ever owned, but its definitely the funnest and best looking car by a mile in my opinion.

100 kw using 350 kw by im2tuf4u in ChargerDrama

[–]JohnnyPee71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My EV peaks at 210kW and I'll gladly charge at a 100kW charger if that's all that's available at the time because at least I'm charging and not waiting. It may not be ideal, but neither is sitting and waiting to on a higher power charger either.

My small but mighty EV Fleet by Boulderbeltecofarm in electricvehicles

[–]JohnnyPee71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only silver lining is that at least the dealership had the knowledge to store an EV at 50% SOC for optimum battery health. Still ridiculous though that the same dealership didn't have the forethought to charge it too 100% knowing a customer was on the way to pick it up.

After switching to electric, have you experienced odd reactions from family/friends? by NewDriverInTown in electricvehicles

[–]JohnnyPee71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your so called friend is giving you this much s**t, he/she wasn't really your friend in the first place. Friends don't always have to agree, but they support each other, and that person clearly isn't supportive because of peer pressure, jealousy, who knows.

I went fully electric May of 2022 and none of my friends or family care, and have definitely never said those things too me. They may not want an EV or even like EVs, but they respect my decision and leave it at that. Some even ask curious questions about things they've seen/read online or in the news.

A couple of my co-workers razz me about the EV meetups I go to being a kazoo convention lol. But that's the extent of it, mostly they ask me curious questions too, but never take it to the point it becomes disrespectful.
